You mean the upcoming mate series will be above RM 4K?
*
I'm talking about the 5G variant that will be coming soon, look at the picture closely.

The one that many here are waiting for are 4G variant.

Since the Mate 30 Pro 4G already costs RM 3799, it's highly likely that Mate 30 Pro 5G will be around RM 4000, hopefully RM 4099 and not more though.

When is the new Mate 30 Pro 5G launch?
*
No one knows except Huawei themselves...

But my guess is that they're gonna launch it along when certain telco launch their 5G network for the public, and since a billboard ad of Mate 30 Pro 5G already appeared in Subang Jaya, it won't be a long wait I guess.

They seriously gotta make it quick in adding apps into App Gallery

I don't think sideloading Play Store in Huawei phones is gonna be a long term solution

And I just noticed Spotify is still missing in App Gallery, hope everything will be added once I'm gonna get a new phone lol.

I don't get why some people here don't even wanna use HMS

And then complain banking apps not working this and that

Those banking apps that you are using are mostly already available in App Gallery, stop being so stubborn geez.

No la, I wanna try it on stock, without side-loading GMS, otherwise it defeats the purpose biggrin.gif
*
You can actually live without GMS, if the app isn't available on App Gallery, you can still find it through Petal Search.

But some apps that relies on GMS will either pop up a GMS error every time you open the app or it will not just not work at all.

If I were you, I would get the 5G variant for the best experience, you already rugi when you're getting an Android phone anyways.

Mind sharing us which apps do you use frequently? We can check for you. smile.gif

Grab, foodpanda, gmail, waze, maybank, ewallets (boost, tng, fave, bigpay), netflix, standard chartered bank and youtube

Also,
@Tomei-R which method did u use to sideload GMS? or did u do this at Huawei shop or something?
*
QUOTE(attw @ Aug 2 2020, 05:33 PM)
For me the main ones would be Grab, M2U, HLB Connect, Starbucks, Touch N Go e-wallet, Lazada, Shopee, FoodPanda, and Boost. Oh, and definitely WhatsApp.
*
QUOTE(spaceman @ Aug 2 2020, 08:49 PM)
Oh btw how can i forget Google Photos, but im fine with trying another online storage ie. OneDrive or huawei cloud, but yeah what about whatsapp online backup which only sticks to Google drive at the moment? Would need to backup locally then. Luckily I started to cut off /detach 3rd party app google login lately, otherwise there will be more n more dependencies lol
*
To start off with what that's available...

Huawei App Gallery: Foodpanda, M2U, HLB Connect, Lazada, Shopee, Boost, TnG, Fave, Whatsapp

Petal Search (APK): Grab, Waze, Starbucks (shortcut to website)

App with problems:

1. Foodpanda - Sometimes when you can't add something to the order, you need to keep tapping on the food options (eg: Like after you selected a drink on Tealive, you need to keep tapping on the options back and forth until it's selected then only you can add to order)

2. Grab - Map doesn't work, so you can't pinpoint a location, you only can type it in. Also, you may not see the option for you to show your QR code initially, so you have to look for the latest version and it will appear after some time.

If you wanna transfer your Whatsapp data, go install Phone Clone and all your data will be transferred seamlessly.

Also, some apps that can't be installed from either App Gallery and Petal Search can also be transferred using Phone Clone app, but one thing to note is that once the app developer releases a new update and the app prompts you to do so, you can't do anything, the app will be useless. My case is with Bigpay, doesn't work anymore, and now I'm back to using debit card.

Thanks for the heads-up. Seems like it will be as frustrating when I really start using a phone without GMS, and most of the time spent will be on finding an alternative or getting an app to work. Well, let's see if I finally go for it.
@XperiaDROID what makes you use mate 30 pro as your daily driver? Battery? Camera or performance?
*
I'm using the P40 actually. Initially wanted to go for Mate 30 Pro 5G, but then the price was too steep at that time, so went for P40 instead cuz urgently need a new phone. Too bad didn't know they would have a good deal at this time.

If you don't rely on Google services a lot, you will get used to it after some time, just be sure to check and think properly (maybe also try it at stores first) before pulling the trigger.

QUOTE(attw @ Aug 3 2020, 07:32 AM)
Thanks for the input bro. Will definitely keep this in mind before deciding whether or not to buy on 8/8 smile.gif
*
Good luck, but make sure to check and test properly before pulling the trigger, experience will be a little different compared to a usual Android phone. smile.gif

Hi all,

i plan to get a mate 30 pro during 8.8 ( if manage to get 1) since it offer for rm2299.

i am mate 20 user currently and i have compare at gsm arena :

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...6&idPhone3=9367

can I confirm with you all that:

1. is mate 30 pro comes with sterea speaker ( gsmarema didnt stated there) & dobly atmos ?
2. How is the speaker sound compare to mate 20 / samsung s20+
3. I know cannot support youtube apps , how about Spotify?
*
1. Mate 30 Pro only has one mono speaker
2. S20+ speaker is better than the Mate 30 speaker (according to gsmarena)
3. Spotify can be installed using Petal Search, works completely fine, subscription also works fine too.

Yeah, the retail price of the M30 Pro would be too steep for me to pay for the experience of living without GMS (or at least attempt to) but 2299 is very tempting indeed. Will go try a demo set first as you suggested. To be honest, I've not walked into a Huawei store since they stopped putting GMS in their phones!
LOL! laugh.gif
*
Be sure to test out the Mate 30 Pro 5G too, who knows that the funky orange color might be up for your taste. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Aug 4 2020, 05:40 PM)
I bought the Mate 30 partly because of the support we need to give to Huawei, to keep them going. But if they don't buckle up on their HMS or their workaround for GMS, I'm not going to buy another device until they have sorted out this issue.
*
Love Huawei products too, but they're still too far from closing down their business so they have plenty of money to lose.

The problem is they have to keep on with HMS and get more apps into it since getting an app developer to port the same app from GMS to HMS is not that difficult to do since it's still Android after all. But going for Harmony OS (if the mobile version ever exists) will be very tough because it's a whole new OS.

One thing for sure, Huawei is probably never gonna get back GMS even if Biden takes over Trump.

for next year, is qualcomm, qualcomm already request permission from US gov to sell huawei complete chips set next year.
US should be approve cause there is usd 8b deal next year.
Imagine P50 n mate 50 with 875 chips.
*
US doesn't care about the money, to be specific, Trump doesn't care about it as long there's no chance for Huawei to rise again.

Google been requesting permission from US gov to do business with Huawei for ages already, and there's no changes, what makes it different with Qualcomm anyways?

To each of their own I guess, but I still believe Mediatek is the only way to go, there are no other options unless they're willing to build Kirin chipsets based on the architecture from some Chinese company but then the technology is still not up to par yet.

The current situation isn't about business, it's about a mad president trying to stop certain country from rising.

Haha, we'll see. Even without GMS Huawei devices still sells quite a lot. Either everyone believes that their HMS is already up to par or they are all tech savvy enough to side load GMS laugh.gif
*
That is probably why Malaysia is still one of Huawei's priority market, along with few other markets in SEA region, I'm still surprised Huawei can still make it here, they're ranked number 4 in our market for smartphone vendors.

Not sure about others, but I've been eyeing on this brand since their first flagship Ascend P1 and then started using their product since P9 Lite to P10 and then now P40. Already like the brand a lot, and used to the way their phone works, so not gonna ditch this brand anytime soon lol.

But to be frank, HMS isn't up to par, and they still have a long way to go, sideloading GMS can't be their long term solution either. They can either speed up in improving HMS, or they can hope GMS return but it's probably never gonna happen.

Huawei is just unfortunate to become a political tool between US and China, otherwise they would've already dominated the global market.

Curved display across the range
Dual speakers across the range
Better processors (Kirin 9000E for Mate 40 and Kirin 9000 for the Pro and Pro+)
Smaller Notch
Wifi 6+
Quicker charging speed across the range

Still not much big difference? hmm.gif

Just curious, what apps did you guys use for navigation since they dont use gms anymore?
*
Not sure about others, but Google Maps actually works on my P40, just that there will be a "Maps won't work if GMS not installed" message every time I open the app, you may search for it in Petal Search.

Aside from Google Maps, there's also HERE Maps and TomTom AmiGo, not as great as Google but it works, I'm using HERE Maps for the time being.

Those cannot tahan without GMS, please sell cheap to me haha, I would like to support Huawei for the time being.

That is why, if one relies too much on GMS, then don't choose Huawei, you know what you're getting.

Sideloading GMS isn't a permanent solution, and not reliable either, people are free to do so, but I wouldn't encourage it if someone asks me about it. It's like some sort of a "hacking" method, means once Google finds out or something fails within, all your installed GMS apps won't work anymore and then you have to look for another source and do it all over again, case like this happened before.

Another thing is Harmony OS is coming soon, and since Mate 30 can be updated to EMUI 11 then it will also be updated to Harmony after that. It's already destined to ditch Android and you would have to move to Harmony anyways, unless you don't update your phone but then there comes the security that you're going to compromise.

Waze works fine on my P40 with HMS, I installed it from Petal Search.

Make sure GPS is on.

To make this fair for app gallery developers, I actually did a full run with P40 pro for about a week. Other than Grab & Google Map & Big Pay, I dont particularly miss anything tbh.
*
From my experience, the only app I miss is Bigpay and SoCar. Bigpay has no available APK whereas SoCar couldn't login to my account.

Other than that, apps that are yet to be available on App Gallery can be solved with Petal Search, even Grab (just that the map doesn't work which can't pinpoint a location) and Google Maps is usable.
