QUOTE(Eternalgl0ry @ Sep 18 2019, 01:45 AM) Anyone know the ideal , popular or best soundproofing shop to recommend? I am looking for soundproofing too. That do those sound dampening and insulation throughout the car Currently there are 2 types I found. One is those normal using soundproofing mats. Take note, for proper soundproofing you need to use 2 types of material. Sound deadening and sound proofing. One type is thicker to be laid on first layer then the thinner one will be laid on top. This is more expensive but is very effective compared to just using 1 layer. Another type is called autofoam. This is done by filling up all the doors and crevices with a type of soundproofing foam. I am not sure if this one is better but I see potential issue when next time need to do maintenance. For example, the wires or connections will be covered in the foam. Advantage of autofoam is the it make the car more solid and have better handling. I would prefer the first method but I am not sure if I want to invest 3k into doing it. |

The foam is really waste of money. It does not have direct effect to flat surface panels {metal or plastic) that generates the most amount of sound.Currently there are 2 types I found. Just mentioned here to provide information and discussion for everyone. Maybe those who have used autofoam can attest to that. |

I also heard some non and existing autofoam customers say it is rubbish. A few are form singapore that travel all the way from SG to KL in order to do this foam thing. but most say is Just marketing gimmick and overpriced
Most also mention need to do both the foam and the soundproofing mats in order to get " results " One of them autofoam the whole vehicle. But when he got into a accident He say it is a big hassle. That is what the panel workshop told him mentioning need to remove the foam crap in order to process what and what I dont know whether that is true but when i watch autofoam youtube video. It did mention here in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRIAY2GDNoo He did say it will take longer. So it looks like the customer who told me is true If live outside KL. Consider jialat omg situation unless autofoam willing to go to the workshop lol to remove the foam using some sort of chemical i think ? since it is resistant to fire hazard I am 49% interested on autofoam but i hear more bad reviews more than good -------------------------------------------------------- I also researched a bit and find out there are cheap to good and better brands for soundproofing. This must be choose wisely as it sticks on it forever ------------------------------------------------------------ CCS car comfort shop looks popular but they only mainly do budget to medium level . Meaning the products they carry are not really for people who want good results.... Its acceptable since it is cheap to begin with but you get what you pay for I do not know whether they carry better ones but it seems like they always use " russian " installers for their advertisements Maybe they are not showing to people or something for their premium products ??? ------------------------------------- Apart from the brands. I notice the dismantle and install part are more important That is the main reason why i am looking for a good shop lol because i witness my colleague's car getting dismantle in the hard way ( when done all we can see are the scuffs, scratches, missing screws and wrong fitment inside) The worst part is that even though the noise are reduced after being done in a i heard and only able to fitback in a more professional shop he found later Easy to remove , hard to put back that is what i can say This post has been edited by Eternalgl0ry: Sep 19 2019, 10:59 PM |

Have use premium brand like Dynamat, Brown Bread & Brax before but the result not much diff compared to cheap SikaDamp deadening made in Ulu Kinta.. Till today I'm still regular customer to KF Audio..

Do you guys think that soundproofing for the bonnet will increase the chance for the engine to overheat, especially for turbo engines? Myth or truth?

Sound proofing bonnet is one of the silliest thing I've seen. where are you blocking the sound from? Blocking it from passerby?Yes, the more you put under the bonnet, the more heat, so it is bad for any engine. The heat /sound protector from the manufacturer is sufficient. |

QUOTE(Eternalgl0ry @ Sep 20 2019, 10:32 AM) Cost, especially bread and butter price sensitive models. If invest RM100 in soundproof material in 100,000 units thats RM10M less profit. Plus nowadays people only wants more features/equipment which can be seen and felt compare to improvements that are not visible like NVH. Thus, manufacturer tend to lean against the visible features to deliver 'perceived value'. Look at the econobox vios, from 1 airbag kosong spec to pack full of features including BSM just to counter the GM6 City. If market demands have not changed, I bet UMW could still get away with J spec dino 4spd+1nz-fe |

Lots of them just don't care to do things properly. If they broke a clip, they will not be bothered to replace it. They will cause rattling sound later which is irritating to driver. That is the main reason why i am looking for a good shop lol because i witness my colleague's car getting dismantle in the hard way ( when done all we can see are the scuffs, scratches, missing screws and wrong fitment inside) The worst part is that even though the noise are reduced after being done in a i heard and only able to fitback in a more professional shop he found later Easy to remove , hard to put back that is what i can say That is why I am thinking of DIY myself. If I do DIY, I will take my own sweet time to do it properly and slowly. Just need to get the proper soundproofing materials. That is the part that I am unsure about. I don't have the luxury of test and trials to find best material. michaelchang liked this post
