Sound proofing bonnet is one of the silliest thing I've seen. where are you blocking the sound from? Blocking it from passerby?

Yes, the more you put under the bonnet, the more heat, so it is bad for any engine. The heat /sound protector from the manufacturer is sufficient.

Those soundproofing mats do work to a certain extend, but foaming chassis is a joke for sound proofing.

I think you would've survived even without the foam. But you can believe however you want. Most cars have soft fronts for pedestrians and strong, A,B and C pillars acting as roll cages.

Have a look at the crash test above, no foaming, front is entirely crumpled. But the A pillar is still holding strong.
