If your watch ever gets damaged, like glass is broken or something, they will replace with a new watch as they will not be able to repair the old one. Found this out when buying the AW5 for my husband. I didn't get the Applecare though, I just got the rhinoshield case for his watch instead. He's been using AW3 for about 2 years and I was AW1 user for almost 3 years and there were no incidents with the watch so far. So, personally I think the Applecare is not necessarily needed.
AppleCare is not applicable to Malaysia any Authorised shop. If you bought AW in sg with AppleCare, you need to go back sg to entitle claim/get replacement. It’s because Malaysia not having any official Apple Store yet. But Malaysia authorized shop still will accept your device and send for warranty claim. But you won’t get the full benefits from the AppleCare.
