i have unifi 100mbps. my router has a wired connection to pc1 in room1. i would like to have a wired connection to pc2 in room2. the distance is about 20m. i would like to future proof the connection a bit if the cost is reasonable. what type of network cable to i need?

these 2 5e cables have very different prices
PRO SIGNAL - Ethernet Cable, UTP, Patch Lead, Cat5e, RJ45 Plug to RJ45 Plug, Black, 20 m costs rm45.89
VIDEK - Ethernet Cable, Patch Lead, Cat5e, RJ45 Plug to RJ45 Plug, White, 20 m rm93.78

also these 2 cat6
ROLINE - Ethernet Cable, Cat6, 20 m, 65.6 ft, RJ45 Plug to RJ45 Plug, Grey rm109.64
ROLINE - Ethernet Cable, Cat6, 20 m, 65.6 ft, RJ45 Plug to RJ45 Plug, Grey rm150.81

and those cat6 cables dont have the word "patch lead". is that needed?

Cat5e and cat6 all can run more then the 100mbps from ur router...

Should not be any problem using either... but transfering between PC1 and PC2 then then cat6 will have better performance...

have the money get the cat6....

Just get 25-30m long cat5e cable with a rj45 plug on each end.

You can direct clip / inside casing surface run high level from router to pc

Any genuine 5e cable should support 1Gbps and PoE at 100m, so 20m is easy

thanks all!! so in summary cat5e will work fine for my needs but cat6, if i can afford it, will be faster for file transfers.

- how to tell if the cable is "genuine"? is there a particular brand or certification to look for?

- what about "solid" vs "stranded" cable? or either will do?

- what about "UTP" and "Patch Lead"? they were mentioned on the webstore i checked. do i need to take notice of those terms?

U have the same set up as mine 2 pc, one at ground floor another at 2nd floor connect using lan cat 6 30m.

Is you Unifi router lan port support 1gbps speed ?

My advice is go for cat 6 cable. You might want to transfer file between those 2 pc with 1 Gbps speed especially moving large files.

You can get those no brand blue colour 30m cat 6 flat cable for less than RM 30 at Shopee.

Only if you have 10G equipment and that is very unlikely at home for a very long time
If the endpoints are 1Gbps, the transfer speeds will be the same

CAT6 should be more than enough to take you beyond 2Gbps. More than enough for years to come.

i bought the cat6 cable. streaming videos seem to be better, but my file transfer speeds are not that fast. how do i troubleshoot to identify which point is the bottleneck/problem?
