lim, u shud try research more on google. Try read up reviews. Then go out find if got any units to try in malls. I believe, all the models that can suit ur budget already listed above. if no units to try, take a leap of faith and get the one ppl describe as closes to ur taste. i got my logitech based on review alone, then my fren buy for me from LYP.

I just return fom KL last week. Main reason is go audition speaker and also i took 5 member of my family for holiday. The money i spend for airticket and hotel could have bought me another Floorstand speaker but it was worth it to listen to so many type of high end speakers.

The moral is there is nothing wrong with asking for recommendation but in the end you are spending your money and you need to do your homework smile.gif

As for sound card, research something from Asus or Creative. With Rm600, you shud be able to afford most except the top range cards offered.

Z5500 sub is not shielded... most big subs arent. The magnetic field can dmg ur hdd or crt. Vibrations wont dmg anything, wont even make ur cup fall off the table. But you still dun want it to be near your cpu, vibration when you play a cd may be bad news for SQ. (Jitter?)

lim is still learning so funny questions may come out at least he want to learn wink.gif But i hope you buy your speaker soon, then the real fun begins. Dun forget to put sound card as a future upgrade as it is a must!

Cable more important or Soundcard ??
Which 1 is doesn't improve the performance at all ?
Really hard to find a shop that can audit z5500 and s550 at the same time in Penang . I hope i can go to K.L , can u suggest any shop that can audit z5500 and s550 in K.L.
*
Go for soundcard... cable useless for you as z5500 not as sensitive as hifi speaker. Trust me. I tried Rm300plus cable for it and didnt do anything. biggrin.gif

Asus souncard better or Creative souncard ??
*
They are right, better you try read online reviews as we can recommend only to your needs and you gotta do the rest.

For your question i can say asus cards have been compared to more expensive DACs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital-to-analog_converter) in musicality drool.gif . Creative is more of a feature card, which suit gaming and movie effects but suffer in music reproduction compared to asus cards.

Search Trade section for sellers to find out the price + models available on the respective manufacturer website. Even youtube got review on soundcards.

For me, all pc speakers are for close field listening. Yes, dont pick too big speaker for your room because it will overpower the room.

You guys boost S730 bass to +6.... i already can feel the pulse at +0 blink.gif Try listening at lower volumes. It will take some time to adjust but now i am former high volume listener.

oh like that i recommend u edifier. i have tried it and like it more than my z5500. more musical and bass more control. z5500 is more loose. razer mako i dont really fancy it.

The Dynaudio, speaker alone is about 7k in singapore.. bring in i think need tax 25% maybe. not sure CMY (dealer) sell or not though but they are far more expensive than singapore.

Just play music for about 100 hours at moderate volume should be ok. If you cant do it continuously tats ok too... just use as normal.

Onboard SC vs Stand Alone SC is not much different nowadays if you only listen to 16-bit 44.1kHz FLAC or Audio CD without DSP and EQ tuning or you not make recording or produce music. But if you insist on gaming then go for it, SC can improve the performance and sound quality of the game.

I dun agree that onboard on par with stand alone... definately i can easily tell the difference even on x3i (i did side by side comparison). But i agree... speaker first.. sound card later for better value... the build of z4... see the link.. rclxub.gif

Hey guys, I'm looking for a 5.1 channel home theater system. Specifically, I need one that has HDMI in and out port. I'm not looking for high end receivers or anything, just in-the-box stuff.

After a bit of shopping around I've found an LG set that does that, but not sure how's the quality like Don't remember the model number, but it has these fancy tall speakers that look like champagne glass. Does any other brand have this sorta thing and not be ridiculously expensive? Budget about 1-2k.

I think you ask the guys from Home Entertainment, you can get better answers, here we are focus PC speakers smile.gif

5.1, 2.1 or 2.0, all depends on individual taste. I went from 2.1 to 5.1 and back to 2.0. ^^

For me use 2.0 when use stereo music, 5.1 when play surround music (eg. celine dion concert dvd).

When use stereo source to 5.1, the singer feels around you, when stereo to 2.0 the stage is in front. Depend on individual preference.

Dont look down on 2.0, if your speakers is good, the sound stage is big, for my 2.0, the soundstage is about 5 times bigger than z5500 with all 5 speakers playing (i use z5500 with all speakers in front)

Yes sound card and the source file is important, then follow by speaker.

Ya i get what you mean about the crowd, hence i use if for concert DVDs tongue.gif

@ArianneG for stereo music, get 2.1 enuff, yes having a 5.1 is more versatile but if i were u, i would want my money to go into the L and R speaker rather than spread out the cost to 5 speaker that perform not as well. Since you also mention your mainly stereo music. ATP3 is legendary from what forumers say. My friend has one and i have to try it one of these days. But maybe you can get a ok speaker and swap it to your dad tongue.gif
