Seems sketchy. I can understand installation fees. But there's no mention of what channels you're gonna get. After the free trial, how much does it cost? No important info there.
i don't mind paying some money to get it installed and test.. i've done quite a number of beta testing of products.. some you just need to pay a lil bit in exchange for some services they provide.. ok whaaa

After 12 months, whats the sub price? Also how much content to get for the sub price?
I guess still further nego/discussions/deals for agreement broadcast between each others which haven't firmly confirm to be launch. This include the regulations of Malaysia LPF. (You know what I mean.. )
OR It might be a draft of channel list to attract viewer. However, the channels will drop anytime if the deals rejected by any parties.
But biggest question is how long can the company survived? Because history has proven PayTV others than Astro don't last long (exclude Unifi TV) ððĪ

Sirius TV is still awaiting for the set-top-box Type Approval from SIRIM. This delay was due to the switch of STB use from H.265 HEVC T2 / S2 / Wifi to H.265 HEVC S2 / Wifi
MYTV does not approve to us to sell the STB model with T2 (DVB-T2) function. Hopefully, once it got approved, the STB and satellite dishes will be provided as soon as possible to the trials participants, as well as new signups that have made their payment.
Okay, so MYTV is not happy that the sales of their STB brand is not performing well as they would wanted it to be.
Just get another DVB-T2 box to receive digital TV channels...
If the original decorder is approved... Then we can watch digital TV too?? Besides Sirius TV?
The purpose of the S2+T2+WiFi model is meant for this purpose; watch both Sirius TV using satellite dish and MYTV channels using UHF antenna on the same Sirius TV set top box. That's the purpose of combo box.
But MYTV just somehow don't feel happy about it. This MYTV Broadcasting also one kind... If they want to make business and earn lots of profit, they should do business in something else, like investing in stocks or something, rather than trying to make people's life harder to earn profit. Digital TV service is supposed to be a social responsibility, a service that serves the people and not mainly for profit purposes. But rich people, just wanna get richer. Haiz.

Well MYTV want to make $$ from selling the box... But our people much smarter.. we all buy others non official box online one. Which still can receive Digital TV...
MYTV should just agree.. but do agreement first with Sirius... Each box sold by Sirius... Part of the sales $$ must be given to MYTV... Win - win for everyone ð

National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand (equivalent to BOLEHland's MCMC), required ALL pay / cable tv operator 'must carry' local nationwide FTA terrestrial channels to give end user (home or business viewer) conveniency of installation receiving apparatus; in other words, a single installaton no matter which pay TV of choices, viewer able to receive ALL DVB-T2 FTA channels via their pay TV platform.
In BolehLand, I don't know how the related authority draw their objectives, RTM Sprot HD and some other channels only viewable EXCLUSIVELY by their own platform (DVB-T2 or Asiasat 122'E), this resulted pay tv viewer, need to do additional installation for terrestrial or 122'E apparatus. Never think about rakyat in first place, PH or BN = 2x5, 5x2. just rebranding.
Another thing, ASO in BolehLand never having sufficient timing to educate public about ASO, the wording of 'siaran ujian' is even longer than ASO campaign. KRUAK of BN during that era to be blamed. He is the one in charge of transition of analog to digital TV transformation. At the end what's the achievement ? As a viewer, after PH take over MCMC, I am still very unsatisfied with the quality of DVB-T2 progress up to date. In my area, RTM mux is much more difficult to receive than Media Prima mux, possibilty of RTM mux using higher QAM as some said in social media. Technical team of respective division have to do something about it.

Both Mux 1 and Mux 2 (RTM) for MYTV uses 256QAM and uses the same technical parameters.
For me, the signal readings I got from both muxes are slightly different. Sometimes Mux 1 is higher a bit than Mux 2, and vice versa. That's for my case la. I use outdoor UHF antenna.
My friend paid RM299 ,they have not confirmed reciept after 2 months, he is going to complain to SKMM. I am sure many have paid but they are hiding somewhere with no ways to contact them.Seems like another flop ,died before hatching!
Finally after some time of silence, there's some update on how Sirius TV set-top-box looks like...
Source: Posted on a Facebook group by Mr Khairuddin Ab Rahman
So what you guys think? Although I do wonder how about that Sirius TV DVB-S2+T2 combo set-top-box went to? I guess there'll be no more DVB-T2 combo box by Sirius TV then...
Dear our valued customers, subscribers, and partners. We would like to give an update on our current progress.
Alhamdulilah, We finally got the approval from SIRIM for both our Decoder and the antenna this week.
So whatâs next? Now we need to get the MCMC sticker and the import permit to bring in the stock before we can proceed with the installation. However, with the Coronavirus in China affecting our Decoder and antenna supplier's production, we anticipated a slight delay in their delivery.
We appreciate your support and your patience as we look forward to our pre-launch trial very soon.
last i heard they having issue with mcmc and also myfreeview
That one settled already.... (I think).
Last time Sirius TV plans to have a combo S2+T2 box, but MYTV seems like not so happy about it (maybe they wanna demand some money from Sirius TV?). At the end they gave up the idea on offering combo box to customers, and will only offer the box that only has S2 function.

Dont want Awesome TV to debut on Sirius TV. They should stay on MYTV Myfreeview platform making MYTV unique. I already have 2 Pensonic MYTV Myfreeview decoders installed in my house.
However I will get Sirius TV and pay RM20 per month after the launch. I heard it is a one time full lump sum charge for 1 or 2 years or something like that.
Sirius TV should further expand the channel range to 50 channels for RM30 and then maybe 100 channels for RM45 - RM50 in future. That will give Astro a run for its money and brake Assteruks monopoly.

That's up to the broadcaster also... Not just Sirius TV alone. Things can be done as long they willing to pump in money.

Rather than stuck video quality on myfreeview on at 4-4.3Mbps ish, it'll be better on Sirius with similar setting because of the HEVC.
Everybody knows that you can get more channels if not tens or hundreds of thousands of Net TV, IPTV and Interactive TV and hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Net Radio, IP Radio or Interactive Radio channels and stations some with EPG and Teletext/2nd generation Teletext/Digital Interactive TV services and hundreds of standalone Teletext/2nd gen Teletext together with dozens of video sharing and audio sharing websites and also dozens of video databases and audio databases and hundreds of OTT and VOD platforms with legal ones including Netflix and iflix with a TV Box, Network Media Player, Media Streamer, HTPC, PCTV, Decoder, Interactive Player etc.
We are talking here about how to receive TV in Malaysia legally.
BTW isn't accessing any of these Net TV, IPTV, Interactive TV, Net Radio, IP Radio, Interactive Radio, Audio and Video Sharing Portals, Audio and Video Databases, OTT, VOD, Teletext the same like assesing it on a Network Blue Ray Player, Network DVD Player, Smart TV, smartphone, tablet or computer?

Now that Astro Njoi is having promotion by adding on additional packs or channels for RM25 something, Sirius TV should add more TV, Radio and Teletext channels for RM30 plus or slash its monthly subscription to RM25 with the same amount of current channels.
One thing Astro doesn't have that Sirius TV has is Sirius TV channels with its own unique programming.
By doing so, will make Sirius TV more competetive over Astro Njoi and later on by Sirius TV adding dozens more channels at an affordable price will also beat Astro Njoi.

Need Bein Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 channels too. Must also have Star Movies, Star Channel V and Star World, Disney, CW, Diva, Hallmark and other movie channels, NBC, ABC, Newsmax, Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC channels too.
Maybe they can add this channels and the subscription can be RM25 a month. If got this channels, I'll install one on my TV.

saw somebody discussed in astro thread, but upon google, their channel listing...is not so.... hmm.. interesting?
Yes. Most of the channel offerings on Sirius TV are those cheap and "not well known" TV channels, where Astro and Unifi TV don't provide to customers because they know most customers wouldn't watch it.
Astro and Unifi TV have acquired almost all well known premium pay TV channels out there, leaving barely a few remaining of channels where they think it wouldn't bring much value to both customers and themselves. Therefore those channels, are likely acquired by Sirius TV, or other future pay TV providers if any.
Pay TV service are no longer a very highly profitable business like those days anymore. The worldwide trend have shifted towards OTT video streaming services already.

With these kind of lousy channels and pricing structure sure bound to fail..
1-way Satellite TV will not gain much market in urban cities and towns because they're already fiberized today. Everyone's already buying TV boxes and installing free apps on their phones to watch FREE live TV channels.
Sirius isn't even serious to know which audiences they should be targeting - the rural folks without proper internet infrastructure and access to cable TV are the ones you should be targeting at.
People who still lives up on trees and in long houses needs to get their doses of news too don't dumb down society and make Malaysians stupid.
RM20/mth is just too expensive for them and instead of providing them with useless music concert channels and unheard of Aussie crap channeling, you should emphasize on more information/international/regional news channels to help the rural people keep up with their knowledge around the world.
Channel News Asia is a good start since it's also available free online to watch live.
Consider adding these regional news/documentary tv channels which are not country specific and are FREE Live on the internet.

But if MCO extends again, how does the installation would even made possible?
If technical visits is allowed in CMCO and RMCO regions only, then it means MCO regions wouldn't be able to enjoy the trial programme of Sirius TV then?

True....we will start sending the Decoder+antenna to our sub warehouse , where the local installer will collect and install the set at the customers place. Our earliest customer would be Hotels and hospitals. This Jan/Feb period would be Percubaan period. Anyway we intend to open up our encryption system to allow ANY box with antenna pointing towards SES-12 at 95 degEast to receive our broadcast for free for 3 months.

So which are the national FTA channels to be available on your Sirius TV platform via satellite when it launches for the trial period? Is it still TV1, TV3 and 8TV only? Will it be in HD quality?

We had confirmation recently from the govt that they have approved the broadcast of RTM 1 , RTM 2 , RTM News and RTM Sport. None of Media Prima's channel will be carried on Sirius TV Station. Our News channel Sirius Media ( English ) and Sirius Utama ( Malay ) are in HD while the rest of the channels are in SD. We have NHK , Outdoor Adventure , Seri , Home Shopping Bazaar , Al Hijrah , CNA , ABC , Smithsonian , Techstorm , Davinci Kids , etc. Paying just RM 299 , you will get the Decoder , Dish , Free Installation and Free Subscription for 12 months without any contract. You need to pay RM 20 per mth after the 12 mth free subscription and still without contract or reconnecting fees. Pay when you want to watch. Then wait for our second phase launch for our Android OTT + S2 box with legal license for apps such as youtube , google etc .

How about the trial participant is still valid? Those that will get free equipment and just paid for the installation cost.

Yes , the trial participants will be among the first to get their STB and the dish. Thank you for your patience and support. We will revert soon.
Hmmm... Considering that with this ongoing MCO and some would worry that customer or installer might get or already infected without knowing (touchwood), I was wondering would Sirius TV consider this option:
To offer an alternative option to customer to purchase Sirius TV online, and then courier/ship the STB to customer's house, and then let the customer decide whether to self-install everything and self-activate the box, or hire own nearby contractor to settle everything (including installing the dish, do the wiring job, box activation for the customer). Can provide "Quick Start Guide" booklet for customer.
Let's say if the customer (those handy ones) has satellite dish at home (like many of us here has) and can self align the dish and do the cabling all (example like me ), then the customer can just self-activate the STB via online or IVR (interactive voice response). In exchange, because the process doesn't involve workmanship from assigned Sirius TV installers, and just the shipping cost of the STB, I think the price of RM299 can be lower? The customer shall only have the warranty for the STB, but no warranty for the installation then. Afterwards, if the customer requires technical assistance on installation, they can contact customer service, and the technician may be able to charge them accordingly.
This is also helpful especially if the customer don't want anyone/technician to come to their house (afraid of the virus), and prefer to do everything by themselves, especially let's say the customer is aware that only the STB is faulty but the satellite dish and wiring all working fine.
Also, Sirius TV can consider open its online store (e.g. Shopee, Lazada) and sell satellite TV equipment to whoever interested to buy, such as Sirius TV box, satellite dish, LNB, RG6 cable, connectors, and so on. This is also useful if the customer is interested to self install everything, and you guys can take it as a some side income from equipment purchases too. Or even, self collect equipment at service centres
From Sirius TV's point of view, number of activated boxes and subscribers may increase faster as well hahahaha....

Wanna seek further clarification on this matter... Why none of any Media Prima channels would be carried on Sirius TV platform?
When a Malaysian pay TV provider carries a FTA station onto the platform, which one of the below scenario is correct?
Scenario A: Sirius TV have to pay Media Prima to carry their channels onto Sirius TV platform - Because it is considered as Sirius TV "acquires" broadcast rights to transmits Media Prima channels onto the platform? - If Sirius TV wish to transmit Media Prima channels in HD, then Sirius TV would have to pay more money to Media Prima? Or the costs stays the same, doesn't matter if it's in SD or HD?
Scenario B: Media Prima have to pay Sirius TV for carrying its channels onto Sirius TV platform - Because Media Prima utilises Sirius TV's broadcast transmission facilities to distribute its channels to reach more audience/viewers through the new TV provider in the market, Sirius TV? - If Media Prima wish to transmit its channels in HD on Sirius TV, then they'll have would have to pay more money to Sirius TV? Or the costs stays the same, doesn't matter if it's in SD or HD?
Which one is correct? And how about Awesome TV and TVS channels? Will it be available in the future? Would it be the same scenario as above too?
Pay TV provider would be able to offer its viewers as an alternative destination to watch FTA channels (e.g. Media Prima channels); save subscribers the hassle of toggling between different Pay TVs and digital terrestrial TV.

Actually Josh..both is not correct. Initially , we offered Media Prima our platform FOC but Media Prima wanted Sirius to get Nielsen Rating to review our customer numbers and confirm the numbers before they would allow TV3 or others on our platform. As a new platform , we would not be able to see any numbers as we barely launch our services. Its a chicken or egg situation. We decided that there is no point to work with them and decide to have our own Seri Channel instead. Anyway , we thought that we might be construed as a competitor. As for now , we only work commercially with TV Al-Hijrah as they are willing to work with Sirius on a win-win basis....and they are friendly too. We are still accumulating channels while Measat is managing the HPA problem at our Uplink now.

As for other channels , we are charging channel lease at RM 500K for Year 1 , RM 500K for Year 2 and RM 2.0 Mil for year 3. We are targeting 500,000 Customer each year which is translated into 7% Household penetration. That is the point when the advertising money will start to kick in. We didnt buy as much STB because we wanted to make our Android OTT+S2 Box our main box using Amlogic S905X4 chipset with legal Apps and AV1 Codec.

That's a good specs for the box & it's future proof..
When you mention 'legal apps', does that means SiriusTV STB will be using Android TV Operator Tier solutions or will it be AOSP with own customized OS?

Opps... Seems like for private TV stations, indeed they are more concern in the platform's potential viewer reach, more than anything else? Anyway, their channels nowadays are just shopping non-stop almost whole day

So in the case of RTM channels, you previously mentioned that TV1, TV2, RTM Sports and Saluran Berita RTM would be available on Sirius TV platform (I assume RTM TV Okey channel wouldn't be available...), so I assume you guys at Sirius TV were initially offer them FOC too?
You meant by "as for other channels" is where other local FTA stations that wants its channels to be distributed through Sirius TV platform, including Al Hijrah (and maybe future potential ones like Awesome TV and TVS), they have to pay channel leasing fees to Sirius TV of the approx amount of "RM 500K for Year 1 , RM 500K for Year 2 and RM 2.0 Mil for year 3" in general, is that correct? That price is for HD quality or SD quality? Or it doesn't matter?

Talking about the technicalities, would Sirius TV consider using AV1 video codec for its linear for TV broadcasts instead of HEVC video codec, since it saves almost 50% bandwidth over HEVC? Or AV1 isn't possible for linear TV broadcasts yet, or how? How Sirius TV plans to utilises AV1 video codec onto its services then? For future VOD streaming?

Opps... Seems like for private TV stations, indeed they are more concern in the platform's potential viewer reach, more than anything else? Anyway, their channels nowadays are just shopping non-stop almost whole day So in the case of RTM channels, you previously mentioned that TV1, TV2, RTM Sports and Saluran Berita RTM would be available on Sirius TV platform (I assume RTM TV Okey channel wouldn't be available...), so I assume you guys at Sirius TV were initially offer them FOC too?
You meant by "as for other channels" is where other local FTA stations that wants its channels to be distributed through Sirius TV platform, including Al Hijrah (and maybe future potential ones like Awesome TV and TVS), they have to pay channel leasing fees to Sirius TV of the approx amount of "RM 500K for Year 1 , RM 500K for Year 2 and RM 2.0 Mil for year 3" in general, is that correct? That price is for HD quality or SD quality? Or it doesn't matter? The offered channel leasing price is for SD channel. We are not charging Al-Hijrah as our partnership are on no cost to each other basis.
Sirius platform is on H 264/265 HEVC . Google has determined that from 31st March 21 ..only those with AV1 Codec will get to use their apps. Thats why our Android Box OTT+S2 will be a little bit expensive as the chipset Amlogic S905X4 is not cheap and we still need to add our ABV encryption system.

You mean both H.264 and H.265 HEVC? Why not 100% HEVC only on all SD and HD channels, since HEVC uses almost 50% lesser bandwidth compared to H.264?

At the moment , it does not matter on bandwidth saving as we have more than sufficient capacity on the 1 transponder at 54 Mhz providing only 12-13 SD channels and 1 HD Channel when we launch. Certain IRD Box provided by the Channel owner are H.264 in spec , thus the reason why we need both H264 and H265.

Hmm then why not transmit all channels in HD quality, since the number of channels won't be a lot at launch? If offers more 1080p channels takes up too much bandwidth, at least 720p quality is better than SD quality though...
Also, if the particular channel provider offers the channel/content in Dolby 5.1 surround sound, would Sirius TV offers the same to the viewers?
As for other channels , we are charging channel lease at RM 500K for Year 1 , RM 500K for Year 2 and RM 2.0 Mil for year 3. We are targeting 500,000 Customer each year which is translated into 7% Household penetration. That is the point when the advertising money will start to kick in. Nothing yet but we do welcome them if they would consider leasing our channel now at current rate. Of course when we have the numbers...the rate will not stay the same. Thank you Josh..

Erm, I'd rather see more international channels being introduced, rather than another rojak channels. Hahaha...
We do have a lot of International channel such as M1 Global a Fight channel , Techstorm with AI , Shark Tank etc , Outdoor Adventure , NHK , CNA , MNC , Indonesian drama channel , Euronews , etc It makes our Sirius TV feels and touch almost like a foreign station apart our own in house production of News channel , Seri and Bazaar Home Shopping. Its easy for you guys talking about rojak channels and so forth...try putting your own money and you will see how expensive it is..

Sorry Sirius TV ððð But thanks for sharing the info with us though
And also, I know especially those who craving on more Japanese language shows like anime lovers, would love to have channels like Aniplus, WakuWaku Japan, and also Animax and GEM (by KC Global Media)...
Do you think it is possible to carry some of it in near future? Or like you said, those channels listed above, are too expensive also?

We need to ensure channels are well received because each channel will cost us around 1 Mhz capacity unlike normal FTA...However , we are currently engaging with Zee TV Entertainment to acquire 1 Hindi channel.

I thought Sirius TV have lease one whole 54MHz transponder from SES 12 at a "fixed price", no? Since the symbol rate would be 45000 already?
I know some backend, IRD box provided is H.264 like you mentioned in the previous post, but I believe Sirius TV can re-encode all channels into HEVC before deliver to viewers via SES 12 satellite, isn't it? Cuz it would be somewhat a breakthrough to see a new pay TV provider uses only HEVC video codec to deliver its content to viewers. Because of the bandwidth savings, Sirius TV could have more number of HD channels than SD channels upon launch, which would makes it attractive to viewers... Just my opinion...
Oh, how about the audio codec? Which one would Sirius TV plan to use? MP2? AAC-LC? Dolby AC3 or E-AC3?

At the moment with the Full transponder of 54 Mhz , bandwidth efficiency is far from our mind. As the subscription are free for 12 mths..it does not matter whether the channels are in HD or in SD. The customer just need a station without any commitment at the moment. The efficiency and the quality will slowly seep in as and when the customers numbers increased.

Just wondering....we are looking at opening the Encryption to allow any Decoder box to receive all our channels for 2 months as Siaran Percubaan. Only need to repoint the Ku-Band dish towards SES-12 at 95 deg East. Those who pays RM 299 and the Trial Participant get to watch for free for 12 mths. Any other suggestion ?
Seems that Sirius TV admin is a long time fan of Lowyat Forum
We would like to answer to Joshhd question on why we have not launch our services yet. Apart from the HPA problem at the Uplink , the main problem faced is on the Apparatus Assignment Fees. Under the CMA Act 1998 , all TVRO installed depending on the size of the antenna , will need to pay an AA Fees of average RM 60/120 per year. Measat got an exemption for those using their M-3 satellite and MyTV has got the exemption in 2019 for using Asiasat 9. The exemption are gazetted in the Class Assignment Regulation 2019 and 2020.
If Sirius were to launch now without getting this exemption through the Class Assignment, Sirius will need to start paying the RM 60 per subscriber per year even though Sirius is not charging Subscription to the customer. We have made application for exemption since last year and has yet to get any decisions. This is the delima we are facing with the Regulator. We hope to get this approval by this month or next. God willing. Why would we want to delay after spending millions for this Pay TV platform. Thats why our second phase will start with our Android Box + S2 + OTT by June 2021. Hope that will answer the question.

Yes. Make all channels in HD quality ðððð And also, be the first satellite TV provider in Malaysia to use 100% HEVC video codec on all channels.
I know bandwidth is not the main concern now, but that's just my suggestion anyway.
As for the channel/content, well, have to wait till you guys start to broadcast the TV channels to SES 12, then only I can comment further.
RM299 for 12 months. So from 13th month onwards, would be RM20 per month or something? Prepaid payment method? Can start and cancel anytime, similar like Netflix?

My goodness... I find that Malaysia should just waive the AA fees for all local pay satellite TV providers. Cuz you mentioned that only those who uses Measat 91.5E and Asiasat 9 are exempted for the annual fees, this seems to be unfair practice to me, especially to new pay TV startups.
If this were to continue, then Sirius TV would have to separately charge the customer RM60 per year for Apparatus Assignment fee on customer's bill. Just the AA fees, doesn't include the Sirius TV channels packages or whatsoever. Put all the blame to MCMC. If customer ask why, tell them it's MCMC charging it, and the money goes to MCMC, not Sirius TV.
Has Sirius TV already started their services yet, like started broadcasting to homes?
I want to install Sirius TV on my second TV in my house. I already have a Pensonic MYTV Myfreeview decoder (comes with Teletext, VOD and OTT like RTM MyKlik and Media Prima Tonton and interactive functions through HbbTV) and another DVB-T2 decoder with OTT, VOD, video sharing platform, video library, video streaming and video database including Teletext and interactive functions on my second TV in my house.
What is Sirius TV's telephone number to call for installer to come and install the decoder and dish?

According to Sirius TV website, it uses 60cm size of satellite dish.
Sirius TV I remember previously the website stated that you guys will be using 75cm. Now appears to be 60cm? Could you explain what is the reason behind that change?

Hi..with the 3.7m Ku-Band Earth Station in Cyberjaya and the 400w TWTA , the Link Budget Analysis requires 60/65cm dish for West Malaysia + Indonesia and 70/75 cm dish for East Malaysis/ Kalimantan. Our dish is elliptical in shape, thus the 60/65cm and the 70/75cm sizes.

For your information...there is no subscription...no contract. After the free 12 mth subscription...you pay on a prepaid/top up basis of RM 20 per mth whenever you want to watch. This will be a Pay-per- view concept.

Hmm... What if standardise them to 75cm in both West and East Malaysia? Or do you mean that even if 75cm dish is used for West Malaysia, there won't be any signal improvements at all, compared to 60/65cm dish?

But..... Is this business model sustainable though? I mean, how'd you guys ensure able to gain profit to offer more channels in the future?
From consumer point of view, the concept of prepaid basis, start and stop anytime, and no contract, is indeed a plus point.
But how about practicing the similar method as those OTT subscription? Example let's say Sirius TV from 13th month onwards, if customer is interested, an auto reoccurring option is offered, where RM20/month would deduct automatically through debit/credit card monthly on time. That way, viewers no need to headache about "forgot to pay", and ensure uninterrupted viewing, and only initiate to cancel the service as per request (whenever you want), similar like Netflix.
Unless if customer prefers other manual payment methods, then can go ahead with topup basis through cash or PIN voucher (e.g. Buy at convenient store or online).

This is the umpteenth time that question has been asked on the sustainability of the existing business model which we are not going to share. We have our TopUp/prepaid of RM 20 per mth or RM 200 per year after the12 mths FREE subscription. We are now trying out the broadcast this week.

We will start with about 15 channels (1st Phase) on 15th March, 8 channels (2nd Phase) on 15th April and 8 channels (3rd Phase) on 15th May. Taking into consideration that the incumbent started with 5 channels when they first started.
We will update the channel listing from this week onward. Do check out our website once in a while. www.siriusmalaysia.tv thanks.
Yeah. The content of the channel is target towards niche viewers. So not everyone would be interested to that channel, unless you're an outdoor, adventurous type of person...
But in terms of offering "never seen before TV channels", then Outdoor Channel is also a good option...

If not mistake i have seen will air in SD. Only limited channls will HD.
Since Sirius TV mentioned before that "bandwidth savings" on the transponders aren't their main concern now, I really think they should just go ahead and launch them in HD quality right away. Of course, the priority on which channels to be in HD quality would go for those premium channels mentioned.
I mean, Astro has been phasing out its simulcast SD quality channels, and making HD quality channels a norm nowadays. Even MYTV Broadcasting's digital TV channels has more HD channels than SD channels now..... If Sirius TV launch all those channels in SD quality, then it's like........ errrr
Oh wow konichiwa! GEM is finally here in Malaysia ðĪĐðĪĐ

We start with SD quality and along the way decides which channels are suitable for HD conversion...anyway ..hopefully the subscriber wont mind as there is no subscription cost to pay for the whole year unlike the incumbent or the FTA channel with adverts...

Still too early to say. Noticeably missing are FTA commercial channels (TV3, 8TV, Awesome TV .etc) and also the entire digital TV offering (except TV Okey on Astro/NJOI) of RTM on all pay platforms.

According to what I read, Since they want the reach after all, which is not available for the moment. They might think that it isn't viable to place on a new platform even that it is free for them to carry. Remember that Media Prima channels wasn't available on NJOI at early stages? It is just a matter of time that all FTA channels will be made available on all platforms, this is if they wish to.
For now will use multiple platforms to access TV channels(MYTV DTT, Unifi playTV, and might consider signing this Sirius TV after seeing the whole lineup)

I just wondering how the Sirius work after 1 year? Assuming after 1 year, then I dun wan go for subscriptions RM20/mth..
So is it I cannot watch any single TV channel at all? Coz I dun find which channels under category free channels and which channels are under pay per month channels?

Sirius TV is a Satellite Pay TV station using Prepaid as payment mode and without any contract. The satellite used is SES-12 and we incurred cost for all the channel we broadcast. As such , we have to charge if Subcriber want to watch our channel which is nominal in fees. If you want to watch the FTA channels , you can hook up to the local terrestrial channel.

LOL... Don't expect Sirius TV to be like NJOI, can watch certain free TV channels without paying. If no subscription, then the service will be hard stopped.

I don't mind SD if it's like DVD quality. I'm happy enough with 480p with 5.1 DD audio. But please don't broadcast in 4:3. ALL tv on the market now are 16:9.

Thanks for your explanation..
That means it is like pre-post paid plan. After top up, scramble channels unlocked.
Before you read further, do note that I am well aware that Sirius TV broadcasts is still on testing period, so some technical hiccups here and there is expected. Hence, don't expect everything to be perfect just yet.
Here are some technical parameters, if you are interested to know: Frequency: 12595MHz | Polarity: Horizontal | Symbol rate: 45000 Modulation: DVB-S2 QPSK | FEC: 4/5 Satellite: SES-12 | Orbital Position: 95°E
To be honest, when I was aligning the satellite dish, I kept wonder how come it seems difficult to get good signal readings... Turns out actually, the satellite signal apparently, isn't as strong as I would expect... C/N (signal-to-noise ratio) of 10.40dB is the very maximum signal strength I can get from my Astro 65cm dish... Signal strength seems "average"? And btw, I'm located in Selangor, Malaysia. And because of that, I have to be more patient and slow while aligning the dish (If you compare, Astro satellite signals are so much easier to get high signal readings ) It could be due to the satellite coverage footprint itself, so can't really comment much... Perhaps that's the reason they uses QPSK 4/5, to make signal reception more robust to compensate the lower signal strength reception.
TV channels I perform channel scan earlier, and there's only 3 channels available free-to-air (FTA) now:
GEM (SD)
Outdoor Channel (HD)
TechStorm (HD)
I also noticed that as of the point of writing (19 Mar 2021 morning): - GEM is not in HD And right now there are no subtitle, and no subtitle tracks at all And the "SIRIUS TV | TEST TRANSMISSION | SIARAN CUBAAN " indicator looks awful - The date and time info from satellite is inaccurate (Most satellite TV receivers out there tend to sync the date/time info provided from satellite.) - The actual source of all these 3 channels, are from the same Measat 3 satellite (C band) ðĪĢ And yeah, there is no EPG data on the channels there. - The channel names appears the same as what the providers obtain from Measat 3 C band. (Example; "GEM (ENG)") They haven't rename it? Never mind, it gives me the feel of "originality" - Whatever subtitle language tracks that Outdoor Channel itself has from Measat 3 C band, Sirius TV has it all too: Good also la... Can get to see some foreign subtitle languages
Picture quality Here are some screenshots on how the original resolution of the actual TV channel look like. Whether it looks good to you or not, I'll let you be the judge:

Conclusion Like I said earlier, Sirius TV is in testing phase now, and yeah I do notice that the reception would suddenly blackout for about 1 second or a little pixelation appears occasionally, so I believe they haven't finish testing yet. That is why it is called test transmission ðĪĢðĪĢ As you guys know, the Sirius TV launch date was "postponed/delayed" several times since years ago due to many reasons (I believe many stuff happened behind the scene) and some technical hiccups, but still, I believe now we get to see their test broadcasts is indeed a milestone for not just Sirius TV itself, but also the hope for the upcoming second Malaysian satellite pay TV service, which many of us been wanting to see for many years.
Technical Suggestions/Opinions Video It is pretty obvious to me that Tech Storm has better HD picture quality compared to others, as it uses constant bitrate of 5Mbps. The video compression artifacts for Outdoor Channel and especially GEM, is more apparent... Sirius TV shall consider standardise the bitrate for HD channels too, at least 5Mbps (H.264 video codec) on all HD channels? I hope the broadcast tech team in Sirius TV would explore further ways to improve picture quality while maintain same 5Mbps HD bitrate, by making some technical adjustments on the video encoder settings, such as larger GOP size (Group of Picture). These 3 channels (Tech Storm, GEM, Outdoor Channel) are considered to be "premium channels" to some extent/people, hence I believe that Sirius TV should have just make all 3 in HD quality instead... ð Or better still, use HEVC video codec
Also, I notice that Sirius TV offers Outdoor Channel in original video frame of 29.97fps (NTSC) instead of converting it to 25fps (PAL). Maintain original video frame rate. Nice
Audio On the first impression, the TV channel's audio quality seems okay to me, not until I tune to GEM channel, where I start to notice the bad audio quality artifacts only on GEM. And I check, hmm, it uses MP2 audio codec, and the bitrate choice of 192kbps seems okay to me, but why is it only 96kbps for GEM channel? The audio quality of 96kbps for a MP2 audio codec, are very bad actually. Unless if Sirius TV proceed with HE-AAC audio codec (patent-required) of 96kbps, then it is a different story. But if it's MP2, nah... I would suggest that if Sirius TV will be using the royalty-free MP2 audio codec in the long run, consider standardise the audio track bitrate on all channels as 192kbps Stereo...
Conclusion Anyway, it is still testing phase, and some things may change from time to time... I wish all the best for Sirius TV And yes, I will continue to monitor from time to time ð

Yes better use HEVC for HD Channels. At least the quality are slightly better than the MYTV broadcast are acceptable.

Well said Joshhd...
It's my pleasure... Btw why is it only 3-4 channels on air right now? I thought there would be up to 15 channels to be included in the test broadcast begins on 15 March? Perhaps could you share on what are the technical challenges faced right now to uplink/provide the temporary FTA broadcasts to the viewers? Because I do encounter occasional picture freeze, pixelation and blackouts on all channels as well, yet I see my satellite signal readings remain pretty constant... So it seems that some issue coming from your side?

Wow~~ As an appreciation, @Joshhd will complementary enjoy free channels in the rest of the life..

Oh yes, I'd love to... HAHAHAHA
At the moment , we are using existing Measat 3 satellite receiving channels which covers the 3 channels everyone is receiving now. We are waiting for the Zixi Servers to be installed which had just arrived today. The Zixi Server is use for receiving channels on IP delivery modes. Hopefully by early next week we will be receiving the balance of the channels.on our TV
We would like to send @Joshhd a set of our Decoder and antenna if @Joshhd can tell us where to send or alternatively he can come over in Cyberjaya to pick up the set himself...

As a new provider, it would be better for all channels (regardless of HD/SD channels) to be carried only in HEVC mode. It would require only around half of the bitrate (~2.5-4 Mbps for HD) for similar video/visual quality when compared to H.264/MPEG-4 (~5-8 Mbps for HD), which will then allowed more channels, if available, to be carried across the platform. Furthermore, the decoder used to receive such channels should likely to be HEVC compatible. If feasible, you may use VBR, which furthermore increases the picture quality.
As suggested by Josh, audio in at least 192kbps (MP2 Stereo) is considered okay for general use. However, if possible, 128kbps (LC-AAC Stereo) would be the best, if you wish to move to the AAC audio format (which Josh said requires patent). Definitely don't use 96kbps MP2 Stereo, as it provides horrible audio.
Obviously, Sirius TV is still on testing mode as on now, so wish the team all the best.
And in addition, is there any plans for connected TV (OTT) services (such as catch up/mobile app) or TV recording service (via external HDD) to be provided on the platform? As for both services I would prefer the latter more, but the former is ok (for convenience).

As I guess, the signal strength of the service footprint. (The larger the number, usually the service will be more stable. The smaller the number, the larger the satellite dish is needed for signal reliability)
There are other technologies that can be deployed rather than satellite which is not even owned by you.
compared to thrash iptv services which are illegal and unreliable, Sirius tv shld be applauded for its genuine commitment and boldness to rent a satelite and be player No:2

Speaking of signal strength and satellite dishes, do we still need a license for satellite dish installation other than the Astro family of providers? (for C and Ku band)
PS: Congrats of Sirius TV getting the first signals on the air

Also (yeah probably the last post in the chain), I think Sirius (or we in this forum) should have a FAQ section for new customers for answers for these common questions.
OMG.. First time see the company so generous give the set of equipment. Pls thanks to me and Sirius so good give you full set...

As you are doing some great for the research, Sirius TV would like to invite or offer you to visit our company and work as a teams. Please accept our offer and the details still can discuss later.

We will definitely use our box with the encryption system from ABV after the two months free test transmission duration. Customers has start ordering and we are now arranging with installers for the installation. This is Pay TV with 12 mth free subscription...and subsequently on prepaid of RM 20 per mth...pay when you want to watch at no contract basis.
That's great. Hopefully you may transmit the services on H.265 HEVC mode only (since the set top box supports it).
You mentioned that the box has DVB-T2 support. Does it mean it can be used to watch terrestrial TV channels? (In my area in JB, the usual MYTV DTT and Mediacorp Singapore DTT channels.)
Is your channel list final? I would like to learn the channel list before wishing to subscribing to this

1. You can have your own channels into it (by way of Auto/TP/Blind Scan features)?
2. Does the PVR record encrypted video like Astro to USB storage?
3. What's the use of the small headphone-style jack on the back? Is it for IR input or composite+audio out?
Extra question (reposted for visibilty and can't find a conclusive answer by google):
4. Do we need license/authorization for installing a satellite (either C and/or Ku band) for non-Astro/Measat/Connectme/Myfreeview DTH use? I'm bit curious on this due to crackdowns by MCMC of said equipment.

I don't think so. MCMC better deal with this issue, cuz otherwise, MCMC will be a world class joke to the world for implementing such rule among general consumers that subscribes local satellite pay TV service. And if the annual fees are to imposed to the general consumers directly like that, people will definitely lambast MCMC for such unfair practice by "protecting" and "in favour over Astro".

If you want, just spend RM299 for that, which includes 1 year subscription. Sometimes even if you're interested to do research and stuff, you still have to invest own money on it. If they offer some people "free set" like that, then other people will definitely want also.

1) Sirius TV box is officially meant for receiving their TV channels only 2) I guess it would be encrypted. 3) That is for 3.5mm to Triple RCA output.
4. Sirius TV is legal, my friend. You don't have to worry about MCMC crackdowns and all those nonsense.
BTW has installation started? When can we expect your call?
Just sharing la... Until now (at the point of writing) there's only 3 channels on air, which are GEM, Outdoor Channel and Tech Storm. The rest of the channels like what you saw on its website, isn't up on air yet, as if like doesn't exist kind.
Plus, I do notice some pixelation, video blackouts or video freeze (that lasts 1-2 seconds) which in my opinion, occurs quite frequently, on all the 3 channels. It seems to me that Sirius TV still has a lot of work to be carried out behind the scenes, so I personally don't see the rush of getting one install that soon.

I prefer I wait the time until my favorite channel comes in to the Sirius group, baru will spend money to invest. Unless ppl give me the set of equipment, I will treasure it for the rest of my life. At least you will do something and research for it.. (There is no free lunch in this world, unless you do hard of it)
And now if I subscribe, I'm not the new customers anymore..
Nowadays loyalty customers no much value.

Sirius TV Test Broadcast 23 March 2021 Frequency: 12595MHz | Polarity: Horizontal | Symbol rate: 45000 | Modulation: DVB-S2 QPSK | FEC: 4/5 | Satellite: SES-12 | Orbital Position: 95°E
Before you read further, do note that I am well aware that Sirius TV broadcasts is still on testing phase, therefore some technical hiccups here and there is expected. Some intermittent pixelation, video blackouts or video freeze (that lasts 1-2 seconds) appears to be a known, ongoing issue right now. (It looks like playing a scratched DVD disc). Hence, don't expect everything to be perfect just yet. The purpose of this review post is meant for those who "curious" and wants to keep up to date on the latest happenings before the official launch only.
Do refer to my previous reviews on their test broadcasts: 19 March 2021: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=100345185 -------- Looks that they have added some new and dummy test channels: Don't get excited just because you see there's "new channels". Those are just showing looping video. Those "new channels" that just appears, I notice that they seems to be "experimenting" different bitrates for video and audio tracks across different channels now. Maybe they want to experiment how does the bitrate influence the A/V quality, and how obvious would the compression artifacts sounds and look like? Example 5-6Mbps HD, 2-4Mbps SD.... While audio is MP2 audio codec, from 64-192kbps. It's good to see that the team is putting effort to try something different here and there... But at the end of the day, for me, the higher the bitrate, the better As long the bitrate not too low, especially HD channels, then it should be fine.

Good news if you are a fan of Japanese shows, because GEM is now in HD quality on Sirius TV. Currently they're testing the video bitrate for this channel of between 5-7Mbps. And also with all 4 subtitles language options (Traditional Chinese, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, English). Here's how the channel look like:
*click/tap image to view in high resolution
Outdoor Channel, still in the same HD quality bitrate of 4.4Mbps. Although it has 6 subtitle language options (Traditional Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Malayalam, Bahasa Indonesia), but respective subtitle language is subject to availability of the particular programme. In simple words, not all programmes in Outdoor Channel has subtitles on all languages.
Tech Storm, with Traditional Chinese subtitles option selected. This screenshot is some "short video clip" aired during commercial break, where so happen that clip has a hard coded English subtitles, which is rare on Tech Storm channel. And on top of that, Chinese subtitle appears during that short video clip, which explains both Chinese and English subtitle appears at the same time. However, do note that only selected programmes in Tech Storm has the Traditional Chinese subtitle appear, especially in TV series. Don't ask Sirius TV why, because they won't know why. If you want to why, ask the channel provider, Tech Storm.
I notice that the intermittent pixelation, video freeze or blackouts has been significantly reduced. The overall broadcast appears very much "stable" now. And, they have removed the awful looking of "SIRIUS TV | TEST TRANSMISSION" indicator.
In conclusion, that's a great improvement, Sirius TV Of course, I'll still continue to monitor as usual.

Oh, almost forgot... The upcoming Malay in-house channel from Sirius TV, Seri, is just showing the looping animation video of this, with some background music Nothing much to see here. Btw, the channel is in SD quality 2Mbps.
Looks like sirius is using 4:3 style subtitles on GEM, i wonder why? Since most TVs nowadays is already 16:9. I assume its some kind of legacy compatibility like what Mediacorp did with their subtitles on Singapore DTT.

No, it's not like that. Subtitle font and font size of the respective channel, is set by the channel provider, which is KC Global Media. GEM, is the same TV provider company as ONE, AXN and Animax, which is now known as KC Global Media. If you have Astro now at home, you tune to those channels, you will realise that the font and font size appears the same on those channels mentioned, including Malay, Traditional Chinese and English.
Sirius TV does not meddle with the subtitle styling provided by channel provider. Same goes to Astro. They just "take it as it is".
This post has been edited by joshhd: Mar 26 2021, 01:57 AM
Yeah, why they use 4:3 subs in the first place though?
Hmm... This one I'm not sure It could be something that the channel provider "overlooked"?
The impression I have is, as long the channel provider sees that the subtitle appears, then they usually would not bother much about the styling of the subtitle font and font size anymore. Or it could be, they just continue using whatever preset settings available, which so happens that setting is in SD 4:3, so even when the broadcast has upgraded to HD, they didn't change the subtitle styling?
But seriously, not everyone are so particular about the subtitle font and size.
Yeah, they probably just left it there and let that be that, similar to like what Mediacorp did. But still, i think if the channel is HD widescreen from the get go (when the service started as a whole or in a new platform), the subs should be the same aspect ratio aswell (goes with GEM and Mediacorp).
I received an email from Sirius TV. You guys might wanna check your inbox or spam/junk folder as well.

Sirius TV Test Broadcast 29 March 2021 Frequency: 12595MHz | Polarity: Horizontal | Symbol rate: 45000 | Satellite: SES-12 | Orbital Position: 95°E
Before you read further, do note that I am well aware that Sirius TV broadcasts is still on testing phase, therefore some technical hiccups here and there is expected. The purpose of this review post is meant for those who "curious" and wants to keep up to date on the latest happenings before the official launch only.
1) New channel is on air now, called Drama Channel This channel seems meant for airing Indonesian TV series, without any subtitles available Note: Original SD resolution is in 720x576 (4:3 aspect ratio). Screenshot above has been stretched into 16:9 aspect ratio (1024x576).
2) The test broadcasts of Seri channel and Sirius News channel previously, appears "ceased" now (as if the channel has deleted or doesn't exist).
3) Some screenshots from GEM, Outdoor Channel and Tech Storm, with one of the few multilingual subtitles options selected:

On 1 April 2021, 5 new channels are added, consists of 4 HD and 1 SD. - FilmBox Arthouse (SD) - Fightbox (HD) - Gametoon (HD) - DocuBox (HD) - Fast & FunBox (HD)
Here are some of the screenshots:
Picture quality wise, like you see above, when there's isn't much movement/motion in that scene, you'd hardly notice video compression artifacts, and overall not bad. But if there is fast motion scenes, then the video compression artifacts would look pretty obvious. I still find that the HD picture quality for GEM and Tech Storm is still the best among all of them
However, the availability to watch the TV channels appears inconsistent. Especially these 5 channels from SPI, it kept going either off air and on air again, or it will have lots of pixelation (like playing scratches DVD disc) till it is unwatchable. It's like, now you can watch this channel like normal, and then some of the channels appear black after some time, and vice versa. While other channels are fine most of the time. When I record/capture the Transport Stream, Fightbox channel and Gametoon channel just appears as "black screen".

Technically, they literally remove the Video PID for the channels while remain the PMT track so that the channel will still appear on channel list.
Probably because they aware that the broadcasts of those channels aren't ready yet, or still "working in progress" of setting it up.
Like I said earlier, it's a test transmission. But their test broadcasts overall seems to be pretty problematic though... I wonder what's going on behind the scenes, cuz it's been quite some time already...
Anyhow, 5 new channels... Good progress la

What happened to channels like CNN, E+, National Geographic, Diva Channel, WWE etc.?
They should have kept those 30 original channels in their channel list and added this new 15 channels so that the amount of channels in total comes to 45 channels.

Let me tell you about channel cost and its management of the bandwidth : Each SD channel is about 1.5 -2.0 Mbps and HD channel is about 4.0-6.0 Mbps . The SES-12 Satellite carries a 54 Mhz capacity per transponder which is equivalent to 71.2 Mbps. For Sirius TV to start test broadcast at 11-15 channel on HD , will require around 60 Mbps - 90 Mbps...which is more than 1 transponder. Therefore we need to throttle down the bandwidth utilization to remain at 1 transponder and maintain the signal quality by having a mix with SD and HD channel. Adding more channel will not help. The cost of satellite transponder is not cheap and runs in the millions and thus the reason not many company willing to consider this satellite platform. Therefore ..those unnecessary channel or if there is any mediocre channel , will need to be remove or not included at all. It will be a waste of capacity and costly as well.

Too many FunBox channels isn't going to be satisfied, might as well replace with other decent channel.

Thanks Sirius TV for the explanation.
So now the "million dollar" questions here is:
- How is Sirius TV going to attract more customers onto its platform in today's era where majority of the Malaysians today are primarily consumes content online more than TV? - How Sirius TV could "stand out" from others in terms of its content/channels offerings in this already-competitive market, plus with current and upcoming launches of new OTT services, like Disney+? - What would be the primary target audience for Sirius TV of its channel offerings, for now? Vernacular content (Malay, Chinese, Indian...) or international content (English, Japanese,...)? If it's both, then it's gonna involve A LOT of money and manpower., from acquiring to producing content....
Leasing satellite transponders aren't cheap, and overall operating costs could easily goes millions. Yes, the one-off RM299, no contract, and then "RM20 for 30 days" offering is indeed an unique selling point to consumers compared to other pay TV operators. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to the quality content. If viewers finds that Sirius TV's offerings doesn't suit them well, they could just stop paying RM20/month and eventually goes back to wherever they come from... What can Sirius TV do to convince its viewers to keep paying RM20 per month (without contract option) to keep the money flowing? How would Sirius TV do, to at least be able to cover the capital cost, cuz it seems to me that this would be a difficult business to sustain in the long run... Acquire rights to more premium channels/content to attractive more viewers into the platform? That will be a "gamble" that easily involves millions, which is not everyone dare to go down that path. "Go slowly", you say? Well, how slow can you go before money is running out? Lots of planning needs to be done...?
Anyway, it will be a tough road to go through for not just Sirius TV, but even to any potential/upcoming pay TV service in Malaysia. What to do? Malaysians are "spoiled" by Astro. *I'm just "throwing out" questions only... no need to be so serious to answer them... ---- Talking about bitrate, alternatively, maybe could consider to throttle the overall bitrate only when ALL of the SD/HD channels are nearly fully utilises the total 71.2Mbps bandwidth in the 12595MHz transponder? Like what Sirius TV said before...:
QUOTE(Sirius TV @ Jan 19 2021, 08:53 AM)
At the moment , it does not matter on bandwidth saving as we have more than sufficient capacity on the 1 transponder at 54 Mhz providing only 12-13 SD channels and 1 HD Channel when we launch. Certain IRD Box provided by the Channel owner are H.264 in spec , thus the reason why we need both H264 and H265.
That's back then. Sooner or later, bandwidth aren't gonna enough as more number of channels increases. And viewers aren't gonna like watching bad picture quality in low bitrates. Like I said before, if Sirius TV would to broadcast all channels in HEVC video codec onto the transponder, then it will be much more bandwidth savings compared to H.264 now... But maybe things aren't as simple as it seems. We'll see how it goes first la, cuz until now Sirius TV is still on test transmission.

If the in house channel can be broadcasted in HEVC. I guess 3-4mbps should be nice spot. If news channel 3-3.5mbps should enough. For variety channel 4mbps HEVC should have better quality than mytv HD quality.

Seri appears to be the only channel on Sirius TV right now that has EPG (Electronic Programme Guide). However, the EPG data is not accurate as it appears to me that the broadcast guys have mistakenly set the EPG data that was meant for the Drama Channel, as Seri channel. As some of you know, "Drama Channel" is mainly showing Indonesian TV series and movies. So, if you're curious on what programmes that Drama Channel offers, I copy pasted the EPG data as text file here:

I don't understand why Sirius TV set the audio bitrate for Seri channel as 64kbps, which sounds very terrible for MP2 audio codec. I guess is because they "overlooked" it? Consider increase it to 192kbps maybe? I also notice the inconsistent bitrates being used for SPI channels (FilmBox Arthouse, FightBox, DocuBox, Gametoon, Fast & FunBox). Not sure is it because that's what SPI provides to Sirius TV, or Sirius TV just throttle the bitrate for the channels? Cuz yes, I do notice that the HD video quality for SPI channels is bad, except FilmBox Arthouse where the channel is in SD, and it looks just like what SD channel should look like, so I got no comment about that.
QUOTE(Sirius TV @ Apr 18 2021, 09:04 AM)
Therefore we need to throttle down the bandwidth utilization to remain at 1 transponder and maintain the signal quality by having a mix with SD and HD channel. Adding more channel will not help. The cost of satellite transponder is not cheap and runs in the millions and thus the reason not many company willing to consider this satellite platform. Therefore ..those unnecessary channel or if there is any mediocre channel , will need to be remove or not included at all. It will be a waste of capacity and costly as well.
I agree on this point though... After been watching SPI channels occasionally, I find that SPI channels are targeted among niche audiences in Malaysia. What I am saying is, I "predict" that only a minority of viewers would enjoy watching content from SPI channels... An obvious sign that the channels is not gonna "last long" in the platform?
QUOTE(Sirius TV @ Apr 14 2021, 07:45 PM)
By June 2021 should have 30 channels..
8 HD channels, 3 SD channels, 0 radio channels With the current video bitrate usage now for the 11 channels now, bandwidth used now is about 45Mbps already. Out of the of 71Mbps, there's a remaining of 26Mbps left. I wonder how Sirius TV gonna fit 19 more TV channels with the remaining 26Mbps, if you demand for better video/audio quality? Uh oh....
- Broadcast all channels in HEVC? - Reduce video bitrate or downgrade some of the channels from HD to SD? - Change satellite modulation technique from DVB-S2 QPSK to DVB-S2 8PSK as well as the FEC, to accommodate more bandwidth (~80-110Mbps), but sacrificing satellite signal robustness (means you will lose satellite signal faster during heavy rain/bad weather). To compensate that, use bigger size satellite dish (>75cm). - Add 2-3 more transponders? ðļðļðļðļ

could be 19 radio channels instead, else the "Radio" section on the channels list would be useless.
In comparison, the other prepaid satellite has 20 radio channels.

Errr... I don't think Sirius TV should consider focusing on offering radio channels on its TV platform at this moment. I would rather see them focus more on getting more nice-to-watch channels instead. Those never-seen-before pay TV channels among Malaysians, or premium channels that only offers on Unifi TV (previously known as "HyppTV") to being offered on Sirius TV may be an added advantage.

Before you read further, do note that I am well aware that Sirius TV broadcasts is still on testing phase, therefore some technical hiccups here and there is expected. The purpose of this review post is meant for those who "curious" and wants to keep up to date on the latest happenings before the official launch only.

Here's the bitrate graph of the TS Capture for 2 minutes. Filtered view to show only VPID (video) and APID (audio) tracks. Click/tap the image to view in higher resolution.
- Add 2-3 more transponders? ðļðļðļðļ
SERI and Sirius Media is thier own in house channel. Should no problem if it broadcast in HEVC. Or it still in test mode. Hope this will air in HEVC
Any Sirius TV trial user here? Feel free to share some reviews here... Alternatively, if you've been watching/observing Sirius TV's FTA test broadcasts by aiming SES 12 satellite on your own (like me), do share some reviews here also eh...
My goodness... Just by looking at the photos with lots of boxes stacks up, I thought Sirius TV is freely distributing its set-top-box to whoever wants it, and then customer can self-install them at their homes. ðĪĢðĪĢðĪĢ
Sirius TV Btw any progress to update with us regarding the trial programme?

We got friendly call from MCMC not to install our Trial set unless we apply and pay the Apparatus Assignment Fees for each set we installed. Our application for exemption through the Class Assignment has yet to receive any result. We are in a Catch-22 situation... authority tell us to toe the line and they are just following the CMA Act 1998 procedures....and the customer is cursing why we are slow in our marketing and installation....

Hah, until now that Apparatus Assignment matter haven't settle yet?
I think it's time to just straight away tell the media press about this, like Malaysiakini or something. Let the mass public and media put pressure on MCMC, and also on the related laws.
Have money will travel......only the big and loaded make it while the smaller ones die before hatching. The current giant provider holding single handed for over 20yrs, contributed maximum and got things done!

And why suddenly bring up MYTV and Media Prima? What do you have in mind?

My question on Media Prima and MyTV ARE NOT related to the Apparatus Assignment issue. BTW we heard the good news that MCMC has approved our application for the Class Assignment yesterday and waiting to gazette the Approval after the Hari Raya... ð
If you guys have any great ideas outside the box ...do let me know....just trying to pick your brain...
when you launch pls launch with something for everyone. The first cut is the deepest!! There must be malay, chinese and Indian/Tamil content. If u start without all these main vernacular languages your first impression wl fail miserably and it wl be hard to recover! Bring internet radios then the usual local stations. Local TV/Radio is everywhere , everyone carries it !! Bring something different for malaysians ,informative ,entertaining and adventurous for both young and old

Personally... U guys better go visit muhiyaddin... If so much problem... Then u would see gates open wide for u guys to proceed.... My personal opinion ð
I wonder when the trial broadcast would end and official launch along with encryption with ACAS (presumably because its from ABV) would start?
By end of June we should have around 30 channels. We are suppose to officially launch the service by mid May. With the MCO 3.0 we think mid June would be a suitable date. Will start the ABV encryption in July...God willing.

People are angry because there is pent up demand for change from the current incumbent. This is good. If people dont like us they can just ignore us and dont bother whether we are slow or not. To us ... they are waiting for change and we are the agent for changes. We have our plan and our schedule for delivery. We have the fund and the time to ensure good delivery. Our service are free safe for the equipment cost and is already on air. The demand has just need to wait as per our plan.
If you guys have any great ideas outside the box ...do let me know....
I would like to highlight this... Even if I don't, sooner or later one of the Sirius TV customer will highlight it anyway
Subtitle language options very limited Out of the 11 on-going FTA trial channels, none of them offers Malay language subtitle. Only this 4 channels has subtitles.
Filmbox Arthouse = English subtitles. Outdoor Channel = Chinese subtitles GEM = English subtitles (Bahasa Indonesia and Chinese subtitles appears to be removed by Sirius TV, not sure why ) TechStorm = Chinese subtitles
Sirius TV might wanna deal with some subtitling partners to make as many channels to have at least Malay subtitles first...? Subtitles aren't just for those who "doesn't understand" the language. It is also helpful to those who have hearing problems too, hence they would rely on subtitles to understand the content instead.
Produce more better quality local vernacular content? Sirius TV could partner with Media Prima and collaborate with some local production houses out there, to produce more premium TV series and movies. Premium TV series, as in, producing 'world-class' content where also targeted for international audiences, rather than just 'exportable' to Indonesia and Singapore. So that could mean, pump in more money in local production houses, to produce a better story line, better production quality and so on. If those existing already-popular celebrities seems 'expensive' to invest, maybe try look for new faces, new talents from various backgrounds and race? Yes, we want something new and fresh. Make it appear "stand out" compared to the ones produced by other TV stations (be it RTM, Media Prima or Astro). Don't just limit to Malay language content only. Consider produce local Chinese, Tamil or even English language TV series, explore the previously unexplored segment of local shows. That could also be, collaborating with Disney+ Hotstar too?
To be honest, it does sounds kinda ambitious... If Sirius TV wants to dare to look different and stand out from others, maybe can consider that risky route. But whether is feasible or not, that's another story.
More in-house channels? For viewers that prefers watching English movies and documentaries, I think the suggestion for Sirius TV to provide premium channels like HBO, Discovery,... will look very expensive. Consider create an in-house 24-hour English movie channel, features all the popular Hollywood movies. And, no commercial breaks please..... If all Malay, Chinese and English subtitles is guaranteed available, and also with Dolby 5.1 surround sound, that will be a big plus point. Same rule may applies to other dedicated channels for English TV series, documentaries, cartoons, and other vernacular content. For those who crave for sports content, maybe consider bring in RTM Sukan channel instead, or look some other kinds of sports channels out there, like NBA TV, Fight Sports, Edge Sport....
OTT platform? Solely focus on satellite TV service won't be enough these days... Sooner or later, consumers will want to watch content on their devices, similar like Astro Go and Unifi playTV. Plus, rain fade will also be one of the popular Sirius TV customer complaints, just like Astro. (Yes I know, it's because of Ku band...)
Put more focus on IP whenever possible. Make your service easily accessible to everyone, and not just only for those who installs Sirius TV (satellite) at home. Perhaps we can expect an OTT service from Sirius TV? Or even implement newer hybrid broadcast standards like DVB-I?
Pay-per-view content? Similar like Astro First, Astro Best, Unifi TV's Hypp Flicks+ Local and international movie rental service... Pay RM10-15 and watch up to 48 hours... Yeah, you and I know how it works la.
Android TV-based of Sirius TV box When Sirius TV will launch Android TV based set-top-box? And yeah, we would love to see if Sirius TV box can also be used to access streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and others.

It's June already. But with lockdown I guess the launch will be delayed once again?
Broadcasting services is deemed as essential services, so I believe Sirius TV wouldn't be affected?
Anyway, Sirius TV wants to know what are the TV channels you'd look forward into...

There are still a lot of other undiscovered contents out there apart from premium movies and sports.

Hope they wont pack up like ABN, which died before they could crawl! So far I had 3 calls since March that installer wl call me soon but no one called. Now they are off air! The current pandemic and the very limited content and variety its not going to be ea$y !
Just got this installed as part of trial participant. Is there any information or detail of the spec of this set top box?. Such as HEVC support or Wifi.
Sirius TV is so silent when other providers scrambling to find contents to replace fox-disney channels.
agreed, they have nothing great to offer, though they are fixing the tools for those who paid. I am afraid they may not make it,cos satelite transmission involves huge costs

Now TechStorm & GEM are taken by UNIFI, nothing really differentiate Sirius from the incumbent.

If they can revise back the package (inrease package price at least RM10 more). They can include much more "Known" channel
Such as -KBS WORLD -Smitshonian -(any option for kids channel) -HITS -HITS MOVIES -AXN -SPOTV/ SPOTV2 -ONE (Maybe exclusive on Astro because unifi dont take it) -Animax (maybe no. Better stick with GEM first) - Movie channel (HBO is higher cost. Maybe can consider to have in house movie like astro showtime)

Because targeting those commercial customers like hotels and businesses are easier compared to direct-to-consumers mah.... Plus, they can earn some "quick money" from it too.
Once they have more cash in hand, then they could start to think about acquiring more channels to all

Why is there a some sort of "external USB channel number display" device (4 digits 7 segment)? Sirius TV seriously include that thing from the box, or you connect it on by yourself? You have Astro box, right? Try connect that device to the USB port at the Astro box and see anything comes out or not ðĪðĪ

That's the external status display. If decoder is on, there will be a green LED light at the left, and you tune to CNA (channel 2), then the number 00 02 will be shown on it. If decoder is off (but power plug still on), there will a red LED at the left, and current time will be shown.
In this regard, this is better than the OSD-less Astro Ultra box.

You should say "Try use the astro coaxial cable connect to that device".. See what the screen will appear.. Who know suddenly astro super sports can watch, then that's all in one... HAHAHA..

You can scan fta/unscrambled channel on measat. Like astro radio channels
u mean we can manually enter TP frequency? i thought this kind of setting is normally locked.
You want to customise own software that can only receive specific TP frequencies? Can. Just spend more money to the software developer guys, and they'll tailor-made the STB firmware for you, which I don't think Sirius TV wouldn't want to spend this kind of money lah...
If I'm Sirius TV now, I'd rather use the money to acquire more TV channels instead (without sacrificing video/audio picture quality, of course).

Just a reminder that GEM on unifiTV has BM subs, while the Sirius one isn't on yet.
So i presume they are not using the same broadcast? Come to think of it, Unifi TV's version are spliced with the TV rating before each show, so likely Sirius is using Singapore's feed?
In order to make Sirius TV survive and more interesting and attractive, they can introduce cheaper international channels or free international channels with quality content numbering up to 50 channels for RM35.90 or RM39.90 or RM45.90 per month. But preferably the earlier 2 prices would be more preferable.
This would make Sirius sattelite TV more interesting among hotels, resorts, chalets and companies over Assteruk (Astro). Just my 2 cents.
If they introduce 50 channels for RM35.90 a month, I would definetely sign up for Sirius sattelite TV.
Seems there is ticker that shown in SERI channel. that there will be problem accessing channel between 1/3 - 14/3 because of maintaince. Wonder it for All SIRIUS tv service or just SERI channel

But sometimes 50 unknown channel got more fans and more people watch then more popular channels sometimes unknown channel got fans totalling in millions or billions of viewers.
suggest they just close shop, satelite business needs big Money!
That not the problem not mistaken sirius parent company have involved with satellite business long time already. It is all about our "market" that maybe cause problem or maybe giving benefit to new player
Pity... Thinking can give some "Sirius' competition towards asstrok.... But they itself RIP... Previously before the "maintenance"... Around 10 active channel only...
So this the third company that failed against Astro... Mega TV gone, another one I think ABNx something & now Sirius TV

Hotels??
Not for household usage...
Got. But they are likely targeting the more lucrative in house channel for hotel market, where Astro has long been king. For in house channels, they hotel don't really care about the content. Just they want something for people to see in their room. So if Ok Vision likely would try to undercut Astro on this front.

Oooh... Like that..
Well many of us don't really watch TV in hotel room also... Busy with other stuff or it's for sleeping purposes only....
