if u can read japanese, u can read the japanese menu system as it cannot be changed into english menu. plus, each region of wii can only download virtual games from its respective region.

Have you even clicked on Shop Channel before? You can buy old games there. Like Sonic/Mario etc. etc.

And what the above posters are trying to say is that, with JP console, you can only download JP Virtual Console games.. Which also means all text are Japanese. Game for JP/EU/US regions are different in terms of release date and language(and also TV refresh rate). That's all.

Another thing to consider is what Nintendo might offer in the future as Wii Channels. All those might end up being Japanese as well, i.e. the browser now, voting channel, etc

Little little applications that you can run. If you buy Virtual Console games, its a Channel. Opera Browser is a channel. "Everybody Votes" is a channel. Actually everything you do is a channel, even the game you pop in, the Mii Plaza, the Photo Viewer, News, Weather etc. And this is how u buy apps and old games online.

Prepare to have all this in Japanese if you decide to save a couple of hundreds now. I guess you wouldn't mind if the Wii is purely for Wii gaming, you read Japanese, or you like tembak tembak...

Just got my US Wii last Saturday. I must say it is fun & additive. Myself consider a hardcore & lone ranger gamer (PS2 & XBOX306). Wii has it's way & magic to pull family members & play together party.gif which makes me impressed with the work of Nintendo. This definitely a family oriented console!

2 cents advise over US & JAP version (espeacially for non JAP game gamers) Save up a little more to get US version since majority of games you play is in english. You might get more & more english game titiles which won't work in future if you get a JAP Wii. In addition, you'll get 100% statisfaction out of the US console (readable & understandable of Wii full contents)

Favourite: Wii Sport (Family gathering) Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil 4 (Single player action adventure)

nope. Japanese Wii can only play certain NTSC/U titles and same goes with US Wii as it can only play certain NTSC/J titles (meaning not 100% games can be played). Plus the updates does not work well with each other too (NTSC/U update semi bricked NTSC/J console)

Jap wii-1k(no ori games la)
USA-1.6k(with wii sports and ori games)
Jap wii(1k)+Japanese lesson(rm600 per course)=1.6k

u get to learn japanese, can play great japanese games while laughing at those who're still waiting for the English version and you get a cheaper wii. tongue.gif

i bought my wii on the 07/07/07
kind of memorable right?

its a NTSC/US version, n i must say it is great.
But it is up to u to buy a JP or US version , u actually can take that extra 400 as a insurance larh.
It is more risky to hav a jp version i must say.

There's no such thing as a Japanese PAL Wii.

Only Europeon and Oceania region have PAL console.

Here in M'sia, we usually prefer NTSC stuff.. So retailers won't carry PAL games.

Found the link. It's not a Japanese version, but a New Zealand version, which falls under Oceania region(together with Australia).

Sad he got conned. In the early days of M'sians getting Wii, some, if not many bought a PAL version only to find out that there's no games sold here.

Alternatively they can mod their console so they can bypass the region locking.. Alternatively, they'll become pirates too.

it will play most games from different regions but not all of them.

I assume that posting a compatibility list is not against the forum rules. sihumchai, why dont you as a probation mod find that out? tongue.gif

I suppose it is not against the forum rules to post a compatibility list. It somewhat supports backups from original discs to totally piracy, so it's in the middle, therefore 'borderline' chatting about piracy sad.gif

Ah well..

Edit:
And region bypassing..

Oh well..

not all games can be played and it might have the risk to brick your console since , just like PSP, before a game load, it will check for your console's firmware and will update it if your console's firmware is outdated.

The best way to avoid this is to play back those game which match the same region.

by the way, i am not encourage you to mod your console..., but just want to share some info i gather from the net and hope this info will prevernt you get conned by those shop that try to sell you a modded console and promise you, 'you wii can play all type of games'

of course, please correct me if i am wrong smile.gif

There is an online guide that will tell you which region game is compatible with which region console.

For eg, Rayman Rabbit US NTSC is not compatible with Wii Jap but Rayman Rabbit PAL NTSC is compatible with Wii Jap. So when you buy a wii game that is different region, check out the guide first. You might not want to spend hundreds and find out it can't run on your wii (mostly for imports game).

Don't assume US NTSC will 100% compatible with Jap NTSC machine.

I still prefer Jap Wii cause most of the good game will come from Jap first before ported (if ever) to US. IMHO, don't get PAL machine.

Japanese is more creative than US. Most top title is from Japan. US only know how to make RTS and FPS.

One of my biggest concern with getting a Jap version is that I will end up poking around the menu blindly then accidentally clicked something that may lead to disasterous outcome.

Anyone here with Jap version, mind to enlighten me with your experience with Jap Wii's GUI? Any guide that can help me to go through the menu levels and selections?

It's actually quite easy once u get the hang of it. I manage to have a test drive with the wii before buying it (I bought from SCE at SnM). So if u're still uncertain about the jap console, u can always opt for the US version one.

Here's some translated version of the wii settings menu.

dear all,

i need immediate help and kind advice asap.

i just got myself a japan Wii and tried it for the first time last night. unfortunately, even before being able to switch the Wii on, something blew off (i wasnt sure where it came from tho), but i am pretty sure i havent even switched the wii on just yet at the time this took place.

could it be the fact that Wii should only be connected to a 100V power supply? whereas power supplies are usually in the range of 250V here in Malaysia?

could anyone tell me if Wii (by any slimmest possibility) is equipped with a fuse in it? or its adapter at least (*crosses finger)

pls dont tell me i just burnt my good ol Wii!!!! arghhh!!

would anyone be kind enough to advise me on what to do from here?

Did you not use a stepdown converter for your Wii?

Not sure if there's a fuse, or something like that to fall-back on, best you take it back to the place of purchase, and test it out.

What you could do to test is borrow your friends Wii adaptor and stepdown (if the adaptor 110V) and test on your Wii.

If the Wii is working then you just need to buy a new adaptor.

oh
what i meant by PSU is the power supply adaptor itself.

i bought mine from japan so there's no need to use a stepdown converter once i have the universal PSU.
thing now is, mine's a dodgy one. whoever has an idea where can i get a good quality one?
