Lol, that guy forever spam everyone asking for salary details.

------

Anyway my 2 cents contribution to the main topic.

Closed down EE company in KL, average monthly salary

Engineer 1 = ~RM3k
Senior eng = ~RM4K
Staff eng = ~5-6K
Principal eng (management track equivalent would be "manager") = ~7-9K
Technologist ("senior manager") = ~10-15K, max payscale i believe was rm23k
Snr Technologist ("director") = 20-25K

additional benefit for moving into management role would be additional RSUs given

Mind to share which specific EE industry??

Great info! Are you founder of your EE company?
What's difference between principal eng and technologist?

Used to work at the recently closed big factory "white building" by the ldp in Sungai Way zone. You can probably guess which company is that.

Erm, not sure how to describe the difference between principal and technologist. Basically as a principal you're leading your own issues in your technical field. As a technologist you'll be expected to be an expert and other folks will be consulting with you for your expertise.

No lah. Took a 50 percent cut in pay to stop FIFO and now I’m doing pipeline work on the DBNGP. Mostly just office based these days.

May go back when Barrow Island T4 and 5 are announced but I recently got some calls for Pluto LNG2.

Going back to the topic at hand I guess much like a Doctor, the real money is made when you specialise in a very esoteric field of electrical engineering where the end product requires a specific skillset.

Depending on your current job my advice is to branch out and look for niche opportunities to extract more knowledge. For example as I work in remote areas where power is generated onsite, SKM Powertools is very useful, not to mention HV switching qualifications.

Our control system engineers often double up at network engineers with an ACMA structured cabling and fiber license with CCNP quals too, because the company would often rather pay 1 person extra rather than hire another person.

So it is LNG nowadays?

Can engineers splice FO cables in OZ? Union will rage?

HV switching, up till how many kV?

In general, would electrical have a faster career progression or electronic?

To top up.. for EE, these titles vs figures varies widely by company, experience and roles.
A staff/principal engineer at one company does not translate to a staff/principal at another.
Titles are not really standardised in the industry.

Eg. compared to the above, another company pays..
Staff/Senior staff rm9~13k
Principal/Senior principal ~rm12k-20k (there are overlaps)

I don't think you can really generalise.. the range is too broad.
Best you think of whether that type of role and skillset is valued more/less.

Intel ok?

I reckon so, manager role in Intel could make that range of salary? I do not have any solid information on this but I reckon with 7-10 years of experience in such giant MNC, 10k range is achievable I reckon.

Perhaps anyone from Intel could shed light on this. smile.gif

Yes in giant MNC, not only Intel but also applicable for other MNCs, the salary will certainly keep progressing until retirement, if you could make it to the top, there are many other perks (stocks, profit sharing, company cars) alongside with the salary package.

Always hearing about Jurutera Kompetent Elektrik / Jurutera Perkhidmatan Elektrik recognized by Energy Commission, or Professional Engineer with Practicing Ceritificate by BEM are the ones earning big bucks. Those are either in O&G or construction or some plant services.

What about Electronics?

I mean how many years can deserve RM10k/month. There is no right or wrong, just curious to know.
*
If not O&G, it should be 10-20 yrs depending on companies

Transition towards computer science or digitalisation related engineering... In Malaysia "engineer" title is misused a lot until it became cheap. Real engineers walk the path to become a lead/principal engineer, subject matter expert, engineering specialist etc.
*
Yeah, most engineers in Malaysia are glorified technicians.
