In many multinationals, there are two tracks, a management track and a technical track ie. no people management. I've been in at least 3 multinationals practicing this although they were more technical companies.
The titles and salary ranges would be similar across the two tracks. For example
Engineering Advisor/Senior advisor = Manager/Senior manager
