Hi guys, can the unifi air sim card put on phone and use for hotspot and as normal bring around mobile data anywhere we go as long as there are coverage?

Or the unifi air can only use at home (registered address or anywhere else with coverage as hotspot or tethering with phone/router?

Anf is there any speed cap for unifi air as of unifi bebas at around 8mbps? When I read through the threat some people say got cap while some say no cap.

They signed network sharing agreement with celcom for unifi mobile, maybe it's not applicable to unifi air

quick question, if only getting the Unifi Air Sim Card, i have to pay RM79, correct?
OR should i just try with #bebas prepaid?

feedback appreciated.

Air u need to pay 100 for the upfront if u took the sim only. If u wan the device have to be bind by 24 month contract.

The upfront will be use to deduct your monthly payment.

Btw, the new hotline flex (own by maxis) + home fiber 30mbps at price 99 seem like a good deal.

The postpaid line got 10gb all purpose data + 10gb YouTube as well as unlimited call and msm.

Unifi really need to learn at how others operator are doing marketing. Their marketing are much better although they just ride on tm line and termination fee only 500 as compared to unifi where remaining month subscription fee have to be paid during ternination.

its to control the modem bro, if u get unifi air but then terminate then tm loses . the modem price is rm800-1000 in market , so they need loyal customer to cover the cost of modem.
*
Ya I understand the concept of control cost. If terminate at the end of 24 month of contract, the device also been sim locked and most probably they can just collect the modem from customer.

I think doesn't need to force customer to pay whole contract monthly fee upon termination as this only stop customer from signing to unifi and go to maxis and other provider etc etc. Last time they only charge 500 for termination which is quite reasonable but to force obligation to 24 month in full just doesn't sound right.

They shouldn't change the T&C to forcefully retain customer. What they should doing is improve their service, package and make customer happy to keep them.

LOL. Anyway, this is just my opinion.

Yes it might be SIM locked because no operator is dumb enough to provide subsidized modem prices.

Moreover, why must pay 24 months in full? If the customer terminates early just ask for the full price of the modem and some small early terminaiton charges la like RM100-RM200 for the inconvenience processing(which is automated etc.).

24mths X RM79(with 6% tax not included) = ~RM1896

There are many people who live in rented homes, do not have a permanent address or needs to be frequently relocated/with unstable jobs.

You're burdening them and they won't likely sign on such terms.
*
Ya but I think what tm want is not to control cost or whatsoever. They just want to use contract to retain their customer before they switched out as the router is not really a very costly thing for them as they got a special low price by buy in bulk. Probably their cost around 500 or lower just like when they introduce unifi air and sell to customer at this price. They advertise as subsidy but in practical, no people will sell thing below their cost price.

TM been monopoly market for so long and there are many dissatisfied customer. Probably that's y they are getting less customer compared to others and more switch out. Lol, Last time when I been through tm point to apply for unifi air sim without router, the Cs beside me talked to a customer and mentioning now many people switch to astro and maxis. I think I saw in forum somewhere that mention their customer base dropped.

you own risk i will stay tm unifi i will not change

i have pospaid 40GB RM128 + X2 48 Share line total 60GB enough can't finish previous i was pospaid RM188
so i already downgrade RM128

now days 3g and 4g very bad speed lite slow sometime can't load

Thanks for your suggestion but to clarify I am not maxis fiber user. Ya in forum I saw some complaint regarding maxis fiber performance but surprisingly I have some friends and family using it and they said no problem so far.

I guess they have both happy and unhappy customer, just that only those unhappy will complaint and make it seem like a lot of people complaining while those happy with it just been quiet.

BTW, currently I am unifi air user but if one day I decided to sign up for home fiber, I don't mind give maxis fiber a chance if they are giving good value.

if after subscribe to the plan, the speed is weak, can we terminate the plan without penalty?
anyone have experience for it?

According to siang,

based on FAQ unifi air
25. Iโ€™m not getting good surfing experience from the unifi Air plan. Can I terminate it without any penalty?
๏‚ง You are able to terminate the unifi Air plan without any penalty in the below scenarios:
I. Proven the LTE network experience based on registered
customer address is very bad or congested.
II. Proven wrong information from our customer service or reseller or agent.
III. Proven there is an element of fraud from our customer service or reseller or agent

But again, remember that there are loophole on those t&c. For eg proven LTE network is bad/congested but how they gonna justify what is consider bad. Totally no internet access or when it fall under certain low speed? It is up to TM to decide so hard to say. The best way is to check coverage and try the prepaid first. Otherwise, it will be troublesome if you have bad experience and bound to the contract.

Normally is easy to sign up and bound to contract but when you try to terminate within contract period, it won't be easy regardless of what ISP or telco you are using. If you are very concern on penalty upon termination, you can sign up the plan without contract that come with sim card only. You need to pay 1 time upfront of 100 which will be used to offset the upcoming bill but make sure you have phone or sim card supported router that support band 5, 38 and 40

Do u guys think the 24months contract is worth it or should I just go with sim only? Because I accepted their free trial and got the b618 with me now, but I am only getting +-10mbps on speed test, sometimes even lower than my current streamyx 8mbps.

I am planning to just use it for internet TV, terminate astro. And keep the streamyx for gaming(lower more stable ping). I do have a Huawei E5377 mifi. Would that be able to hit the same performance as the +-10mbps of the Huawei b618 with the unifi air? Cuz it seems like the b618 can't reach its full potential here.
*
If 618 are getting low speed then probably your area didn't covered for band 40 or 38. If the area only cover for band 5 but not 38 or 40 then it is likely the speed to be low regardless of what router you are using.

You should check what band your area are getting for unifi. If your area support band 38, 40 and your mifi is covered for band 5,38, 40 then should be fine. Maybe someone pro can tell you what band your mifi is covered as the website and spec doc only show frequency and I duno translate that to band. Another possible problem is signal strength, b618 is definitely better in term of get the signal as compared to mifi so if b618 is not getting a good speed then I think it will be worst for the mifi

Perhaps you can try the digi infinite instead if your area digi signal is strong. Digi are using band 3 and 7 if not mistaken. You can look for digi subforum if you interested to get more info on that

Hi, guys. Anyone ever connected to band 38 for unifi air? All the while I was just connected to band 5 and 40 but unifi air was written to support band 38.

Is it band 38 not exist practically for unifi air? Just wondering whether to take b618 or not as didn't support band 38. Appreciate if anyone can provide a feedback.

It will be helpful if someone can feedback the practical different on speed between tethering/hotspot with phone vs router like b618. All the while I am using my mate 10 pro but just wondering is it really a big different if I connect with router instead as phone network spec was better than b618 on paper.

Interested in the unifi air 5g but too bad that their pricing set too high. In comparison, u brand and y brand much cheaper around half of the price.

Just that the u brand got 1000gb fup while y brand have a bad reputation ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ. I have been using unifi air 4g for ages and no issue so far, if the unifi air 5g is just slightly above 4g like rm20 then will be good.

Unifi quite bad in doing business, if not because of monopoly of fiber sure the company will struggling. They should reach out to those current user of unifi air and offer them a special rate to upgrade to further improve their revenue..

With pricing of 149, I think most of the people will rather go for the fiber optic option or opt for u or y brand ๐Ÿ™„

Too bad, I think those 5g home/wireless internet is a future for home internet access. Nowadays people prefer something easy & convenient.
The speed itself can match those fiber optic internet and fiber have to drill and limited by slot available in a certain area.

They should offered contract free and only sim card package instead. If that's the case then it allow user to decide which 5g router to use.

I think they will offer it sim only soon

I check Celcomdigi website earlier and they offer sim only for RM99 per month. With modem ZTE mc8010A RM149. Maxis also offer with mc8010A (based on their advert) but RM158
*
Celcomdigi deal are not worth it. Paid 149 with contract but still bound by fup of 1000gb. Better get u home 5g or yes 5g as it's also fup of 1000gb with half the price.

Better check with your nearby tmpoint/unifi store directly for a better clarification or else you can try to call their hotline.

Just to add on, I also cancelled unifi air 4g and mine was sim without contract as well. Basically they prorate the month where you terminate the account and refund back the balance.

Because the thing with unifi air bill is charge before usage and the bill normally arrive in first week of the month and the payment is for that particular month you using their service.

To keep it simple, when you terminate the account, you already paid for that month and hence will be some rebate calculated based on the remaining days you didn't use their service.

In my case, the next month after termination, I got the money bank in to my account already.
