I had the same idea with RedShirt to test signal strength with my phone first. But it seems like my phone wont connect to their 4g without proper apn setting. Does anyone know the proper apn setting for mobile?
*
the apn is: unifi

my mate 9 the apn auto set tho.

Just subscribed to sim only plan. When I first asked at TMPoint, their staff said I cant use phone for hot spot, need to use modem. I plan to use my phone as hot spot and my phone supports band 5. Then I went to another branch to register, the staff asked if I already have modem. I just said I have since some people here said they can use their phone. Other than the sim can't make call, is there any other reason the staff show extra concern on using modem instead of phone?

Got back to office, and I remember my last year ipad also supports band 5 so I put the sim in the ipad instead. So far I can browse and update apps on the ipad, and use it as hot spot too. If there is no restrictions that I should be concerned about and coverage is ok at home, I'm thinking of terminating my current celcom sim for the ipad and use this unifi plan.

Download speed in my office average about 20 - 22 Mbps but upload speed is all over the place. Lol.
*
im also using the sim in phone as mobile data. so far i go everywhere in klang valley coverage also gooding. cheaper than i150 and unlimited. really satisfied. speed varied from 5mbps to 60mbps depending on location and band used.

Great to hear that. Do you need to set any APN setting in your phone?
*
apn is automagically configured in my phone.

i did chat with their help line a couple of days ago, she said unifi air only support band 38 and 40..

reading from this thread it seem like unifi air really do support on band 5.. just need a double confirmation.. do unifi air support band 5..?
*

Those who want sim only to use on your phone why not settled for unifi mobile RM99? I think it will have much wider coverage than this Unifi Air. It's unlimited data and call according to what I saw.
*
i believe the coverage is same.

rm79 is cheaper than rm99.

youtube not capped.

unlimited hotspot.

Really? I thought it is using different band because the sales person keep saying the coverage for both are different.
*
unifi air coverage map only show band 38/40 coverage.

but from my testing it also can connect to band 5.

i just gamble rm100 deposit to test myself lol.

i think tm just dont want people complaint getting low speed if they're outside band 38/40 coverage, thats why they promote it only in the area with band 38/40 coverage.

Unifi Air got unlimited hotspot. The only reason I gambled and register the sim only plan even though my home just missed their coverage area.
I thought coverage is different between air and mobile? I'm still contemplating if I need to replace my ipad current sim with this unifi air sim. Worry later when I'm using waze and suddenly no coverage. Lol.
*
i part time drive grab. so far around klang valley navigation and data no problem. i have backup sim tho.

What if the location does not have 4G coverage? For unifi mobile it will roam on Celcom 3G network. What about Unifi Air?
*
will connect to 3g. but no data. i lock my phone to 4g only.

FAQ said that one needs to return the device. that's why this is the confusing part.

Do I need to return the unifi Air device when I terminate the service without any penalty?
 Yes, you will need to return the device and its packaging in good working condition to any of our TMpoint outlets.
*
only if u terminate while still in contract. fact no 25.

I've check it myself, it is unifi/tm problem bangwall.gif
it was lag, but when I shift to my hotspot from phone (maxis and even Umobile GX38 6mbps), everything was running smooth, not even a single lag.

I'm on Unifi Mobile Jasa Pack.

I'm getting very bad Upload speed of 0.5mbps only, pathetic upload (Download speed is reasonable 20mbps). With this bad 0.5mbps upload, I'm unable to work from home at all, very hard to share my live presentation to my colleagues.

Does it mean Unifi Air will give similar Upload speed in my area as the Jasa Pack? Are they on different band?
*
similar. 99% upload under 1mbps.

edited: add speedtest result

Anyone can confirm if unifi air is being throttled the same way as Unifi mobile like this? Because the past 3 to 4 days my unifi air were on constant average of 15mbps during non peak hour compared to 25 to 30mbps previously. I've been using roughly about 50gb worth of quota.
*
im using 500gb last month. okay jer.
