Indian Army foils BAT action along LoC, 2 Pakistani Army SSG troops killed

Two Pakistani Army SSG troops were killed by the Indian Army while foiling a BAT(Border Action Team) action by the Pakistani Army along the Line of Control.

The Pakistan Army was trying to do execute a BAT action against the Indian Army post in Nathua ka Tibba in Sunderbani sector.

There was a heavy exchange of fire between India and Pakistan Army including the firing of anti-tank missiles and rockets in which one Indian soldier died.

Over a dozen injured in southern Philippines bombings

MANILA (AFP): A series of explosions rocked a southern Philippine city known for Islamic State-linked violence on Sunday night (Dec 22), wounding at least 17 people including soldiers, a military official said.

A hand grenade was thrown into a military truck patrolling Cotabato City in the restive southern island of Mindanao, with eight soldiers and four civilians sustaining injuries from the bomb's shrapnel.

It was quickly followed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the nearby town of Libungan, wounding five civilians with one in "serious" condition, regional military spokesperson Major Arvin Encinas said.

Another explosion was recorded in the neighbouring town in Maguindanao, although police are still gathering information on whether there are casualties.

No groups have yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, which happened as the government planned this year to lift its military rule in the island over the improving security situation.

"We do not discount the possibility that Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Daesh-inspired groups are behind this," Encinas told AFP, referring to the militants linked to Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The Philippines is plagued by violent insurgencies, including a Muslim-led separatist uprising in Mindanao that has killed some 100,000 people.

Though a landmark peace deal with the largest of the rebel groups, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, was sealed in 2019, the most brutal extremist factions were not included.

Those groups include the Islamic State-aligned BIFF and Abu Sayyaf, a kidnap-for-ransom gang that has been behind some of the nation's deadliest attacks.

Two people were killed and 35 wounded in Cotabato in December last year after a bomb went off outside a shopping mall, which was also blamed on Islamic State-linked militants.

A worrying escalation of militancy was recorded in June when a Filipino militant - who military named as the first local suicide bomber - blew himself up in an attack on a military base.

ISIS has stepped up its strategy of absorbing existing insurgent groups around the world as its "caliphate" crumbled in the Middle East.

In May 2017, hundreds of pro-ISIS gunmen seized the Muslim city of Marawi, sparking a five-month battle that left more than 1,000 people dead. - AFP

Soldier killed in gunfight with rebels in eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- One soldier was killed and another was injured in an exchange of fire with separatists belonging to what the government calls "a criminal armed group" in Indonesia's easternmost Papua province on Monday, local media reported.

The gunfight took place when the soldiers were transporting logistics from a military post located at the border shared by Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

The body of the military man was evacuated to RST Marthen Indey Hospital in the province's capital of Jayapura, the media said.

Papuan military Spokesman Eko Daryanto confirmed that one soldier was killed and another was wounded, and he has yet to receive reports of the shootout between the soldiers and the criminal armed group.

Monday's exchange of fire was the third incident involving soldiers and rebels this month in Papua province. The gunfights have left at least four soldiers dead.

Suriakala, Malaysia's first non-Malay female Major-General

KUALA LUMPUR: The country will have its first non-Malay, female ‘two-star’ general on Saturday.

Creating history will be Brigadier-General Suriakala Suriabagavan who will be promoted to major-general at a ceremony in conjunction with the 87th Army Day in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on Sunday.

Army chief Gen Tan Sri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi commended Suriakala, a grandmother of two, for her astute leadership and top-notch officer quality.

“She is one that needs minimal (or no) supervision and can deliver when it matters most. Suriakala is a very dedicated officer and we are proud and honoured to have someone like her serving not only the Army, but the entire Armed Forces and nation.

“We need more calibre staff like her, of all ranks, as she is a fine example for others to emulate.

“The Army is very proud to present her the second ‘star’.

“Well done!” Hasbullah told The New Straits Times.

He said that despite the challenges and hindrances faced by her in her private life and at work, Suriakala carried out her duties exceptionally well.

Suriakala, who will turn 60 on Oct 26, said she was very touched by the gesture from the Army and the Armed Forces to reward her for her untiring efforts to maintain the credibility of the organisations.

“Never did I imagine that someday I will break ranks to be promoted to such an esteemed level.

“My family and I are ever grateful to the Army for where I am today and will do my utmost to continue giving my best.

"I hope my achievement will spur other Malaysian women to pursue a rewarding career in the Armed Forces,” she said.

Suriakala from Klang, Selangor, has two sons. She is from the third intake of women cadet officers from the short-service commission who enlisted with the Armed Forces in December 1981. Her coursemate includes deputy Army chief Lieutenant-General Datuk Hasagaya Abdullah.

After completion of a year’s training at the Officer Cadet School in Port Dickson, she was commissioned as a second-lieutenant in 1982.

She began as an assistant records officer with the Records and Pensions Directorate on Dec 18 that year.

From there on, Suriakala continued her 38-year career with the directorate, rising through the ranks to become a major in August 1993 and lieutenant-colonel in December 2000.

With the new menhan announcement regarding the possibility of using helicopter to deliver essential items to interior areas in Sabah/Sarawak, will we see the reactivation of Nuri to perform these kinda tasks?

I actually would prefer to have our Nuri fleet to perform low intensity tasks like mercy flights and logistics and the fleet is put under MKN/NADMA (tho the af would still be the one to fly them) where they would foot the OPEX bill, all while waiting for new helos. Using EC725 just to deliver rice and cooking oil seems overkill imo when we have nuris just laying around
*
most likely helicopter would be used sparingly as its not a disaster relief
the roads and dirt trails are still there not like it got blocked due to natural disaster
just need to drive it to a collection point where the locals can collect it themselves

musim ship accident?

Indonesian naval ship KRI Teluk Jakarta-541 sinks in East Java waters

Indonesian naval ship KRI Teluk Jakarta-541 sunk on Tuesday morning while carrying out logistical duties off the coast of Kangean Island in East Java.

The Indonesian Navy said in a written statement on Wednesday that the vessel had sustained a number of leaks before finally sinking 90 meters under the sea at around 9 a.m. local time.

“The sea waves [near the ship’s] location were 2.5 to 4 meters high at the time,” the statement read.

No casualties have been reported in the incident. All 55 crewmen have been rescued by nearby civilian ships – KM Tanto Sejahtera and KM Dobonsolo – and are due to be transferred to KRI RE Martadinata, which is bound for Surabaya, according to the Navy.

It is the second known incident involving Indonesian naval ships to occur in the past two years.

On Sept. 11, 2018, fast missile boat KRI Rencong-622 caught fire and subsequently sunk while patrolling the waters of Sorong, West Papua, around 20 miles from the harbor of Navy Command III in Sorong.

100 Prajurit TNI Bergerak Serang Polsek Ciracas Dipicu Info Palsu
