Cambodia also same. Years before PassApp, taxi and tuk-tuk will cheat tourists nonstop.

After that someone close to gomen came up with PassApp, a system similar to Grab. It can calculate the rate of the destination. At the same time, the company allow traditional tuk-tuk drivers to upgrade to newer tuk-tuk from India and Thailand. These are more comfortable and powerful. Plus they ran off LPG.

Eventually traditional tuk-tuk slowly went out of business. Only a few left to serve smaller towns or rent out to new drivers.

So, when in Cambodia, always use PassApp or Grab to avoid cheating. Drivers dare not cheat under this system because if they do, the company blacklist them forever.

Taxi in Malaysia still never evolve. Full of con drivers and those from shady backgrounds. If gomen have will power, ban taxis forever.

You do not need to ban taxi. You need to remove the taxi permits from the hands of selected few cronies and give the permits directly to the taxi drivers. When the taxi drivers themselves are owners, they will be more willing to change and adapt to new technology. They will also less likely to cheat because they will lose their permits if reported.

PUTRAJAYA: A Raya open house hosted by the transport ministry here today turned rowdy when some 500 taxi drivers refused to leave the vicinity after failing to meet minister Loke Siew Fook to hand over a memorandum.

Some of taxi drivers were heard shouting for Loke, asking where the minister was.

“No double standards please,” another called.

The crowd of cab drivers were among a group of 2,000 that had earlier gathered outside the Prime Minister’s Office, urging Dr Mahathir Mohamad to resolve issues facing the taxi industry.

They want government to allow them to charge customers whatever they want without using meter in their lousy condition taxis.

Lol, they only want fair competition with grab. Anthony 67 should give both grab and taxi same sop to prevent double standard.

When issuing permit directly to taxi drivers, they must show they achieve certain mileage in a year. If they do not reach certain mileage, their permit will not be renewed. There are so many way to regulate the taxis later but the most crucial part is removing the cronies taxi permit holders first.

i think the best solution to this idiots is to ban taxi service completely. There is no need for this outdated service in today's world.
bad service, bad attitude and basically scum of the earth.

Taxi industry is a burden to the gov & tax payer.

Previously they expect gov to give them fee money ala BSH to them.
Now the gov already helping them to pay for PEKESO using tax payer money....but they still want more hand-out.

in other industry, employees just quit the job and move to another competitor, taxi drivers don't do that and still enjoy waiting for customers.

This what happened when disruptive technology come. You better be prepared if you can't win then join or move to other field

Same thing happened to budget hotel with Air BnB take their market

Sooner AI and industry 4.0 will come, more industries will be affected. Gov can do very little to stop technological advancement

How is no 2 fair to anyone other than benefit taxis? Consumers have no choice. Seems like Transport Ministry already agree to it.
