I am considering getting a flat screen for astro watching. Since the sentiment is plasma is better, I am considering 2 models:

Panasonic 42PV8 or Hitachi P42A01A.

What really interest me is the Hitachi's ALiS panel which has 1080i and the fact that ALiS panel supposed to use less power because pixels are lit one row after the other.

What do you guys think? Anyone got experience with these (esp the Hitachi?)

Do a side by side comparison before buying. i cant remember well but I think I like the panasonic picture better. first and foremost i have a Hitachi 9500 and I have no regrets with it. The sound is much better than even the newer models. But if I were to buy another plasma TV today, I probably go for the PV80. Watch what Im saying. I said buy another. I wont replace my 9500 though. Why? because of the price and 5 years warranty.

How much is the Hitachi P42A01A? I dont see any flickering with my eyes so I am okay with it. Since I dont have have anything to compare side by side, it looks good to me as it is. Astro works fine for me at the distance Im watching about 10 feet or less. I have it in my bedroom. personally I dont think ALiS is a big advantage unless someone can point out the difference to me. Use less power? I am not sure either.

Best is you go to a big store like TBM and compare them side by side and let the picture quality dictates.
