I was quite active on 40m back in 2021 to early 2022. Sadly, July 2022 I sold my Yaesu FT450 Fullset (wire antenna, cables, power supply and digital mode accessories) due to busy with work/life, less time to spend QSO on the air.
Fast forward to 2023, itching to TX on HF bands again but with lighter budget + portability (QRP anyone?). Still contemplating whether to empty my cart on Shopee for Xiegu G90 haha.. xD

Good afternoon sifus, i would like to seek some recommendation for walkie talkie, use by small team consisting of about 20 person, mainly for organizing event/function in various buildings. we need to communicate like in hall or shoplot building, sometimes with 3-4 floors, eg event on top floor, but need to communicate with ground floor staff etc. https://www.lazada.com.my/products/motorola...7885024789.htmlIs this a good candidate for consideration? The AA battery option seems like a good backup. It mentioned license free so i supposed we can just buy and use it? However this is just a 0.5W unit so i am not sure if it will be too weak? For comparison we have some old kenwood TK3107 which is 5W. Are they compatible/can communicate by any chance? Thanks in advance. This post has been edited by pandah: Nov 4 2023, 12:24 PM

After being in a dilemma for quite some time, I finally pulled the trigger and bought Xiegu G90 from Quebec Ventures at Bandar Saujana Utama. Also, I bring home the GP1 portable verticle HF antenna and G90 External Battery Pack. Not interested in buying a DC power supply as my Mum dislikes permanent antenna installation the last time I bought a Yaesu FT-450. Own home is an apartment, thus can only play on my radio when I go back to my Mum place on the weekend.
Almost bought a uSDX but turned it down to no built-in tuner. 2023 is the year for QRP trans receiver I guessed, because I also have joined the bandwagon. I think we need to crown 9W2DI as an influencer to incite youngsters to explore HF haha. Last time I could only TX on 40m and now looking to explore the 20m HF band.
Should I buy the DE-19 Xiegue interface to play with digital modes? Please somebody racun me haha

Thanks Since the aerial is X50, I assume you are interested in 70 cm. Unfortunately, RG-58 is very lossy at 70 cm for long runs - a 15 m length will reduce 10W Tx to 2.5 W. An 30m RG-58 will reduce the same 10W Tx power to 0.6W!!! If you want to change the RG-6, you should be looking at LMR-400 or thicker. Since the X50 already have 3 radials for RF earth, I assume you are interested in "lightning earth"? A water pipe is not sufficient, but requires multiple rods spaced at a specified distance apart: 1. https://www.ntms.org/files/2013mini/Lightni...0Protection.pdf2. https://reeve.com/Documents/Articles%20Pape...equirements.pdfYou will probably need to employ an electrician to implement the earthing requirement.

Thanks for the material. Will go through it. Yes i am referring lightning earth. Yes i am aware of the loss proportionate to length. Just want to increase my reception and transmission of UV5R.If my interest grow, i intend to get a proper rigg. So far far i have change my ducky antenna to Diamond 771, lots of improvement. Any idea how rough estimate for electrician work for lightning earthing? Thanks
