Hi. It has been ~1 month already...

Realized that my public IP is different from my router IP.
Because of this, I can't connect to my CCTV DVR remotely.
The WAN IP address reported to the DDNS server differs from the router IP.

FYI, I'm IT literate biggrin.gif
Have done the following:-

1. POWER CYCLE (turn off/on) & RESET, the modem & wireless router
2. Change to OTHER wireless ROUTERs
3. SCAN all PCs / notebooks / mobile phones of virus, malware etc.

So, I would rule out hijacking / IP spoofing by virus/malware ...

Any of you guys, experiencing the same problem? hmm.gif

Your internet router has a dynamic ip address assigned by Unifi on the WAN interface and a private ip address on the LAN side (maybe something like 192.168.0.1 (private addresss space)), that's normal.

How are you updating the WAN interface ip address, by a DDNS client on the router?

IIRC this has been discussed before. TM no longer assign public IPs to Unifi basic accounts, only shared public IPs, something like double NAT at ISP level. I think it's mentioned in FAQ.

Not sure if one can request to TM.

Otherwise need other ways eg VPN / Teamviewer / ngrok / cloud service like Mydlink.

I think you're confusing static & dynamic ip addresses assigned by Unifi. Even if you're using a dynamic IP, you can access your home network using a DDNS.

Yes, I'm aware that most of our external WAN IP address is dynamic, each time we re-connect to the internet vs static WAN IP on corporate /leased lines.

I'm also using it for simple FTP server, which also fail bcoz the difference IP addr reported to DDNS provider.

Just found out the TM is doing upstream NAT rerouting ... doh.gif

I'm using Unifi, dynamic ip, I've not had a problem accessing my home network via the internet - web server, music streaming, etc.

I guess that's the case for Unifi Basic. Higher-priced accounts eg 100mbps not effected.

Possibly no other Basic users around yours port forward their internal services?

In my case, only HTTPS uses stand port number (443), the rest, including IP cameras, use custom port numbers.

Student package - 10 Mbps, still waiting for Unifi's much promised free upgrade that never happens.

Have you checked that the DDNS client is correctly updating your DNS record? Say if you do a nslookup on your host name, do you get your router WAN ip address. You can use http://www.kloth.net/services/nslookup.php to check

R u sure, u r still on 'Student' / '10Mbps' plan?
Did u check yr e-bill? Does it says 'Student' / '10Mbps'?
TM began their turbo initiative since Oct'18... by now, should be finished their upgrade exercise.

BTW,
i) HOW MUCH r u paying?
ii) WHERE r u located?

Received a couple of emails over last year that the upgrade would be done before the end of 2018, not done, called them, in progress, etc., etc. I think their strategy is to upgrade close to the end of your contract and lock you in for another 2 years. Hopefully the other providers up their game and the fibre last mile problems gets sorted out, then can switch.

Anyway this is getting off topic.

Frankly, I am quite surprised that you did not realize this earlier, OP. Lots of users have many discussions about this issue in the Unifi thread, and past posts and comments here have mentioned that if your router IP and the IP you see is different, you have been assigned a private IP, most likely a 100.x.x.x IP which is CG-NAT IP addresses. Don't say you are IT literate when you did not even realize this is happening at the beginning. It just makes you look foolish, when asking for advice. Just my 2c.

The only way to solve this issue is to upgrade to Unifi Lite 100Mbps package. Basic 30Mbps will not get access to public IP anymore.

Just enable IPv6 and use it.....I understand changes can be hard, but the future is IPv6.
With IPv6, you don't even need DDNS.

no, what taqu means is..

TM is no longer assign Public IP address to Streamyx 384k-4Mbps and Unifi Basic users, they assign Private ip (it's also a dynamic address, starts from 10.x.x.x)

that will not work for any hosting, like CCTV or any kind of remote access, or hosting

it will not work no matter what you did on your side, the only way is to call TM and request them to assign public ip to your account like old time.

if you check your IP address in your router is 10.x.x.x or 1.x.x.x you are on private ip address, it's like behind another NAT on TM side.

and it will be different than ur external ip address where u can check them at www.whatismyip.com

if external IP address and the internet IP address on your router are different, you are on private ip address

if both same, it's Public IP address

and btw 192.168.0.1 or any 192.168.x.1 , those are ur local ip addresses

Interesting .. I'm still getting an ipv4 assigned from TMNet's 202.195.0.0 space, anyway ipv6 is seems stable.

Student package might be different, you're still lucky then. Hopefully TS will get a solution.
