No, they're not professionals.
Yes, they still bill your phone calls. I once called and lasted for 45min if I'm not mistaken, was couple years ago when i recently resigned my job in SGP and came back Msia was pretty depressed... nice guy was kind enough to talk with me about anything at all. His name was John, i think probably a fake name but John if you're reading this I hope all's well on your end. |

I only emailed them, never called. It took 2 weeks for a reply. I waited each time while I was depressed. I found that I often regret writing the emails because I was ashamed to tell others. This lasted for about a year or so.
It didn't really help because I was always regretful of expressing myself. Then, I got myself a journal and just wrote my feelings. It helped me because no one else understood me, I felt. When I reached out, I was never expecting advise but just someone to listen to me, but I always regret because I felt ashamed. I have some deep issues stemming from my childhood, so that fucked me up until now. For me, I find it best to just write in my journal whenever I am depressed or just do things like watch videos to get my mind off things or even just sleep. Everyone's different. |

QUOTE(sk1l @ May 25 2019, 09:55 PM) I know it may not solve all my problems, but if I write it in my private journal, at least, it would not make me feel regretful compared to me talking about it to Befrienders or people other than my siblings.I know I have deep issues. I am not suicidal anymore but I do fall into depression every now and then. I talk to my siblings occasionally but they are also like me, they have issues too because we grew up together in a shitty environment. I feel better talking to them or writing in my journal. For me, my journal is better. |

Don't waste time calling befrienders. Long long ago I have tried. It's useless because if you speak to google assistant or Siri, you would get about the same effect.

I've called them before 2 years ago and honestly it was a terrible experience.
The volunteers are not professionals so some might be helpful and some might be just following a script. It depends. |

I called Befriender only once, back in 2015 I think. Without making the call, without the listening ear from the other end, without his understanding of my feeling, TBH, I wouldn't be here anymore.
Right after the call, I took antidepressant of someone else in my family immediately. |

For me, my journal is better. They are just volunteers from all walks of life - housewives, students, office workers, freelancers, retired pensioners. , There was a doctor, a GP, there many years ago though, whom I discussed with on medical issues. He was quite open and knowledgeable. I wished I had asked him where his clinic was. If you can afford it, it would be far better to consult a psychologist who is trained in hypnosis, and go for a course of hypnosis sessions. There is one in the forum here, username Zeropoint9. His name is Hiro Koo, and he is a practising psychologist trained in hypnosis and biofeedback. Hypnosis has been used to treat difficult and deepseated psychological disorders like PTSD, or post traumatic stress disorder. https://www.linkedin.com/in/hiro-koo-47380661/ This post has been edited by Tham: Sep 17 2019, 03:15 PM |
