Kinda learnt that syrian can be together.. just cannot put wheel or tunnel coz if any of 'em is blocking.. They will fight.. It's like they will fight to get something.. MAybe the style of hamster..
So, i put both in one tank.. Looks like they get along very well.. No more fighting like wat happened in the cage which has tunnel n wheel..
Went petshop in megamall yesterday.. My gf had her eye on dwarf but too bad that fella said WW even better... So, i purchased 2 WWs..
Damn the tunnel is so expensive.. I cannot afford to make 'em one castle..

One 'r' shape cost RM 9.50..

I was thinking of getting 20 of 'em..

Too bad..
Syrians cannot be together. Though they look like they get along now, maybe it could be that the tank/cage is new and doesn't have either of their scent, or they are still young, but through advice, experience and facts, they are SOLITARY.
They will never get along, they will only tolerate each other. Usually when they fight is at night, and they can fight very severely, even result in death in some cases.
There was a lyn forumer that didn't want to listen, and one day he came telling us that his ham's jaw was ripped badly and bleeding non-stop. Though it recovered, he still refused to separate them and denied them fighting. I have no idea what's wrong with the fella, but what he did was not the right thing.
Once they reach 4 months of age, they will start to fight more seriously. Separate them now, no use buying a standby cage and letting it sit and rot at the corner. If male and female is worse. Even if they start to fight around that time, they can breed at the age of 1 month and the male will rape the female. The female will become pregnant and because she's not even fully grown yet, she will probably be a bad mom or suffer from nursing them. This will permanently damage her if she chooses to raise the babies as she will not get enough nutrition to grow herself, resulting in much shorter lifespan, stunt in growth and possibly further health problems.

Yeah i know.. I just wondering .. If they love to fight.. How come everytime i go petshop near my place.. They all can live together very well.. About 6-8 in 10inches tank.. None die or injure..
Because they usually fight at night when you can't see them and petstores will remove and bodies and injured hams from the main tank. That's why especially in PW, you will see many small tanks at the corner of the counter, all full of sick and injured hams. They also don't separate them by gender, so if they let them simply breed, and most of the babies are likely to be inbred. They also separate due pregnant females so they can let her raise the babies and sell the lot later.

Of course not watching them when they sleeping..
If they can get along in one tank.. no problem to keep 'em together .. If can't then have to seperate 'em... That's wat i've heard n quite true..

Why wait?

I know wat to do man..
Wanna buy new cage.. Still looking for it..
Btw,
Dry already coz purchased 2 bottles, one plastic house, quality food, food tray, wheel and new cage for syrian..
So, where can get cheap tunnel & bathing sand?

You don't seem to know what you're doing in some aspects of hamster keeping.
What's the brand of your 'quality food'?
You don't need to buy a cage, you don't need to buy a plastic house. Waste of money.
Go to carrefour or Giant and get a large toyogo storage box. Decorate it with toilet cardboard rolls and empty tissue boxes. For a nice house, go to the japanese RM5 store and buy the RM5 burner.

Oh.. RM 10 - RM 12 is reasonable for me.. Can use how many times?
Btw, megamall's pet shop don't have.. I asked already..

Rene_blue appears to be non-member in lyn...

Two questions :-
[1] Is that some kinda special sand or any sand will do for hams?
[2] Is it ok to let 'em stay with me in air-con room?
Added on July 16, 2007, 4:57 pmSyrian kar?
Charlie chinchilla bathing sand, sluis bathing sand and Delikate bathing sand are recommended. Syrians and winter whites don't really need the sand. Gerbils and robos do.
Yes, you can keep in aircon, but don't put directly under and don't make it colder than 18 degrees celcius.
