Just bought a small bottle, a round thingy just like the wheel, a house(only 1, no money sia) and a female hamster! xD.

During Timmy(mah hamster) beauty sleeping, i put Verana(mah female hamstar)on top of timmy! xD. Timmy keep following Verana though. sleep.gif

Crazymouse=> Thanks for the explaination! Just put more hay. Pasar minggu hay's so cheap one. xD

Hoho... be prepared man. Hamsters can give birth every month and it can spoil the females health and shorten her lifespan.... so prepare yourself with information on breeding, new tanks for separation as well.

THis little guy I saw him in a pet shop nearby my house...In The mall-the shopping mall oposite of PWTC/ Hotel Sri Pacific... Is quite big actaully...I got him yesterday...ANyway...He bite like hell...He bite me so many times and is not tame at all....He is fierce and aggresive...I am on my way to tame him...He is not that scare of me as before...But any methods to tame him more efficiently???

He is a funny guy...He looks like longkang mouse ....my sister said he looks like ratatouie....He is whole black with pinkish eye brown...And he is combination of many animals...when I touch him...he avoid me like cat....he walk like a cat... =.=

he sit like a bear ....like how human sit....when he bath...he scratch his hand like how human wash hand....he scratch his backside like a dog... but eat kuachi like hamster...he really looks like a bear when he is standing....looking at me...he bite like hell...and his speed of biting is extremely fast...his tooth is sharp...real sharp....dunno how he sharpened them.

LOL, all I can say is, OVO is nice lah, but just ventilation is bad coz very few holes. Still, it is a nice Habitrail cage but the worst in ventilation. To me, more suitable for WW or RC. Some Syrians can become so big, they find it hard to go through tubes LOL... like one of mine.

You bought a syrian.... a teddy bear syrian hahaha... but it is a Sable coloured syrian. To tame it, you must hand feed. Gain his trust. Syrians normally do not bite. If they bite, means the petshop handle them too rough liao and it is super scared.

QUOTE(liez @ Dec 5 2007, 01:20 PM)
Lol...I am ham lover....Of course I know it's not good...But it's good for displaying...My syrian is not going in...I will put ww instead...And....Actually it's quite big....it's bigger than safari IMO... I got all the tubes linked....SOmetimes....Buying a product you gotto trust it besides following others' opinion... I got 3 tanks at home... But just feel good when I can use soemthing I like... Cleaning the cage shouldn't be a problem to all the pet lovers... Especially I am not Hunz...WHo has xxx hams xxx genuine pig xxx duck chicken gerbils gliders hedgie parrots kangaroo tiger lion dinosaur  rclxub.gif  jkjk...

Trying it shouldn't be a problem...It is a full set OVO suite and I hope my ham will love it...If it's not big enough for her...I will extend 1 or 2 more OVO maze....that time is bigger than a 3 floor hasmter cage.  biggrin.gif

I will do anything juz to make my hams happy. coz they happy i happy...Yea...the lucky ww is from a forumer in the forum call janelooidog...sth like dat...
*
LOL.... I got no dinosaur and tiger or lion and kangaroo LOL... but I got many pets so I only buy and use cages and tanks that are practical and easy to clean plus giving good ventilation lah..

Goodness.... you later become OVO addict hhahaha.

Erm.... ok, tank size is very nice.

But you did 2 mistakes.... Kuaci is bad if given too much. Give other grains. You go to organic shop, you can buy buckwheat, pumpkin seeds, cashew nuts, millet, rye.... you need include grains, not seeds only.

Also, the next mistake is Syrian.... you should never keep 2 syrians together. They are solitary animals and would fight for territory once they reach 4 months old. So even now, no babies for you, but you need to have a separate tank already to put the other hamster there.

Human emotions, we think they are bored and lonely but they are not. The fact, Syrians hate company unless for the female is on heat.

QUOTE(liez @ Dec 5 2007, 02:13 PM)
Wait...HUnz...NOw i got sth....eh...about the OVO

The water bottle....it drips ...and my ham drink like a dog now...should i use another bottle???? u know...it drip on the floor...u can see my pic where the bottle is attached... then my ham drink on the floor like a dog...is this sth bad??? next time he act more like dog.
*
Wah... bottle leak.... if the water is on the floor, it can be dirty. That's one of the reason why I still have no interest in OVO even though looks nice hahaahh.... the bottle design also not good. Maybe you should look for another suitable bottle, or you try fill up the bottle till full and see if it leaks or not.

So you're saying that i need to seperate both of the hamster? Then how to get babies if like that? sad.gif
*
That's why I saw, go and read up on Syrian breeding. You first can only breed once the female matures, about 4 months old. Then you must make sure she is in season, means period lah. Normally the term for animals is "heat".

You need to separate for their own good. Do you wanna see a dead or injured hamster later?

Anyway, once the female is tested for her season, you put the female into the male's tank and let them breed. They will do it immediately. They will mate till the female rejects him. Then return her to her tank, wait 18 days for babies. If nothing, repeat the breeding sessions.

But I can only give you a short brief, you have to do the rest on your own.

Added on December 5, 2007, 2:37 pmEh crazymouse, just now i see them peacefully sleep together and share food. Do i need again to seperate? T_T"
*
Again..... you have to separate. By nature, they are solitary, they are only sleeping with eat other for body warmth. All hamsters do that, but once they wake up, they actually do not enjoy each other's company, just tolerating and it will become fights later.

Do not use your own judgment, do not put your human emotions in.

QUOTE

That is your human emotion playing. Stick with the facts if you want to be a responsible hamster owner and if you want your hamsters to be healthy.

For Syrian, a female when she is on heat, she would smell strong. Her private part would be wet and if you go closely to smell, it is musky, almost fishy smell. Then you test her by touching her tail and also stroking her back with your fingers. If she stay still and lifts her tail and butt, it means she is in season.

If you have less than 5 cages to clean.... it is ok to have all those tubes LOL.... but me.... erm.... how many cages and tanks I gotta clean once a week? I think around 20 to 30 cages and tanks hahahah..... takes me 1 whole day to finish cleaning. I use up 5kg of wood shavings once a week, so..... ahahah.... I will never have cages with tubes loh....

Hahah... Hamsters, rats, fancy mice and gerbils..... Coz i'm a hobbyist breeder, doing quality and colour breeding lah but very small time. I don't earn much at all.... and you are right, my pocket memang empty hahahah. I spend too much on them. Food also not cheap, 1kg like RM18 already.... 1 month they eat about 4kg of food... sometimes 5kg, Hay needs 1kg a month, veggies really uncountable for me LOL....

You can leave it for a week provided you hang 2 water bottles or 1 bigger one, food, you throw in as much hamster food in as you can. But it would be much better if you could ask a friend to help you... coz hamster can fight anytime and if they do and you are not around, it could be fatal.

if u need clearer pic i will try to capture some..

Oh... you got the fluff.... it is quite dangerous as it can suffocate a hamster if it gets eaten, then it can get tangled in their feet. So you better remove it.... kinda useless and dangerous.... wonder why Hagen still sell....

Anyway, ok, you did the right thing at separating but you just let her recuperate on her own. If you wash, there is a risk where the skin could break again, causing more infection. Is the wound dry? The tail area wet or dry?

are you sure?...... black campbell? That's an agouti WW lah..... where you learn your hamster species from?

Anyway, if you mix a campbell with a WW, for sure hybrid.... colour doesn't mean purebreed.... is genetic. Anyway, your pictures are blur and dark, so I cannot see what they are too.... get better pictures. No point you take pictures in a dark room.

Hamsters do not bleed during heat lah..... blood stains.... means kidney problem already..... hamsters come on heat through smell and also a whitish liquid can be seen in syrians on heat. But for dwarfs.... no.... blood stains means something internal has happened. It can either be harmless or fatal....

Hi guys... I got good news!
Remember when I thought my hamsters are 1 pair and I need to separate them? Now they both are fat fat hammies already and can see the sex!
Yeay!! Both are males... phew! Can see their tiny balls tongue.gif and also the holes are far apart, which means they are both males! So happy, hahaha! Now I dont have to separate them or give them away! Yeay yeay!

Anyway, will they fight later? So far since they have been together since they were 2 weeks old, they never fight... the play and sleep together.. my Winter Gold / Puding is larger than my WW Pearl...  sweat.gif is this normal? I read that WW is smaller than campbell... and since Puding is a hybrid, that means it is logical that he is larger than my WW Pearl right?

Oh, just incase I havent told you guys their name... Puding is FUFU and WW Pearl is MOMO...  icon_rolleyes.gif
Here are the pics of them, fatso sooooo cute!

I am thinking of getting a syrian hamster tongue.gif from that petshop in Sunway Mentari, u guys been talking about... but I have a few Qs:

1. Is is a good idea? I dont have other pets than the 2 dwarfs. I am single and live alone.
2. If I decided to get it, is male or female more manja and better to handle?
3. Can we bring syrian hamster to go jalan2? for example to hang out at starbucks or something? Will it stress them?
4. Hmm last but not least, syrian is more tame than dwarf right? I want a pet I can handle all the times without stressing them or me! I handle my dwarfs on daily basis, but they are still bit fast and cautious all the times sad.gif
*
Yah, pudding will always grow larger than normal ww....

How come I have never seen that pet stall at The Curve? Damn, I feel like checking it out for myself and see how bad the condition is....

Anyway, luckily your WW are males.

Male Syrians are somewhat nicer to have. You don't need to worry about heat and smell, they got longer fur.... but personality wise, almost the same with females.

Don't bring hamsters for outings so often... it can be stressful....

QUOTE(youngkies @ Dec 12 2007, 08:02 AM)
i recently changed from tank to a used cage for my robos. with this cage, he climbed around (horizontal bar) and bite the cage. this is the first time I saw him biting the cage, looks like he is trying to get out. i used a new smaller cage before i transferred him to the tank, the 2nd home. this biting has never happened to the other cage.

so he has stop biting and climbing after few hours to now, i wondered is he just curious with the new home or is he doesnt like the new home, hence the biting?

Cage biting is normal. As long not doing it till it annoys you like crazy then it is ok. Your hamster is just testing out but all hamsters in cages will once awhile chew the cage bars.... it is a habit. It can also be a sign for them wanting to come out if you take them out often for roaming.

QUOTE(siokjinlim @ Dec 12 2007, 10:04 AM)
omg... your ww pearl and puding is so cute!! where did you get them?? tongue.gif

since u only have only 2 dwarf hams as ur pets, i'm sure getting another syrian is not that hard to take care, right crazymouse? xD

as for sex, i think male is more manja, but at first when u get it, u still have to tame it a little, cos their bite is much more painful than ww..

finally, if u wan a pet that can be taken to startbucks, get a dog, or at least a guinea pig lah... syrians too small lah biggrin.gif
*
Syrian is easy to take care. Fuzzy cute bears hahha. I got 8 loh.....

hi, i got question: where do i need to keep my hamster food? is it ok if i put them in an ice-cream container?? wont rosak one rite?
*
If you are gonna keep your hamster food in such a container for more than a month, it can go stale and lose its freshness..... Best you keep in the fridge to stop mold and insects. I finish my hamster food stock in 3 to 4 weeks and keep them in air tight containers. If you are just using an ice-cream box.... then it can become stale coz it is not an air tight container.

QUOTE(liez @ Dec 13 2007, 12:34 AM)
Wanna ask...

I gave the hams kuachi...They put everyhting into their mouth included kuachi...they put kuachi into their mouth without opening it...So the kuachi became wet... and not so fresh....other foods is still ok like seeds, grains, cat food...at least they are still eatable...but kuachi skin became soft and i gotto throw them away....any solution for this?
*
I never had that happen.... it could be pee.... their saliva is not slobbery and wet like dogs.... so it is quite impossible for the kuaci skin to become soft and wet.... it could be the quality of the kuaci.... or it could be that your hamsters drink while having food in their cheeks hahahaha.....

Anyway, you don't really need to throw away. The shell of the kuaci protects the seed so what you see outside as wet, is just on the outside. The insides are still edible.

Your MoFo is cinnamon banded like JackJack... We also got the 2 feet tank from PS but now the tank belongs to Jery & Remy (robos). JackJack is now staying in Hagen ZooZone2 (3 feet tank).

This is JackJack last night when I gave him a piece of dog food to eat. He knows I'm taking his picture so he turn the other way to finish eating his treat.
*
My Syrian from PetShack damn lazy.... eat and sleep, eat and sleep.... hide in her hidebox and make it full of hay to nest and cuddle.... but she loves her veggies hahaha.

Wow, your JackJack super lucky, 3ft tank, more than enough space heheheh.

QUOTE(sogoatticus @ Dec 13 2007, 09:21 AM)
jus wana share with ur guys, my pearl got this 1 strange behavior..at the corner of my tank got a pile of  opened kuaci buried under the woodshavings..can see the kuacis from outside..suddenly saw my pearl go there and update his kuaci stock..then buried them back..i think he scared my agouti steal his kuaci..i provide so many kuaci to them n he still greedy..lol..cute aight?? wub.gif  wub.gif
*
Oh.... is not greedy lah..... the word hamster has a meaning. It means "hoarder"... and that means to keep things. A hamster has an instinct to get all their food to 1 corner. In the wild, it is like a food storage, like how we humans got fridge and cupboards.... so each hamster would have their own hoard....

Kuaci is high in fat, so control the amount you give.

QUOTE(blurjoey @ Dec 13 2007, 09:33 AM)
Jack Jack does this also... He would take all the food from the bowl and hide it in a corner under the beddings... tongue.gif

Don't provide too much kuaci for them as it is not good for them if too much. Now I try to put less kuaci and make them eat others from the Prestige Hamster food. But they will usually eat the kuaci first then no more will eat others laugh.gif
*
All hamsters love kuaci.... oh, once I bought 2 hamsters who dunno how to eat kuaci.... sadly they died, I suspect liver failure coz for their whole lives since babies, they have been eating dogfood at the petshop.... pure dogfood and catfood, no seeds, no veggie..... poor things rite? I got them as adults so imagine, 6 months eating dogfood.... when I pour my mix for them, they only eat the few pieces of dogfood, never touch any seeds.... veggie is like alien to them.

HAhaha... I also got a Syrian from PS... but dunno related to MoFo, JackJack and Shakira or not.... Mine is a golden banded hahahah...

Anyway, an 8 inch wheel is the best. Better, get a 9 inch but the 9 inch wheels are not suitable for hamsters since metal bars.... so the best is an 8 inch wheel.

Winter Whites are not sociable and won't live together peacefully unless they are siblings, but even then, the hamsters might fight fatally. It is advised to keep them single, as in wildlife each of them has a territory of 12kmē.

Syrians do not produce excess oils like dwarf hamsters, so there is no need for a sand bath. Of all hamsters, I can personally say Syrians are the cleanest when it comes to grooming themselves and they smell less unless on heat.

All hamster will poop whenever and wherever they like, peeing is always at one spot.

To get rid of the pee smell and also dried stains, soak the pee area with White Vinegar(can get at supermarket). The best is soak it overnight. Then the next day wash the whole cage with soap and water. Then it's Clean!

QUOTE(a_sim @ Dec 17 2007, 11:18 AM)
I have a question about my hamsters - Ryuuk and Rem. They have been with me for a year now since they were babies.

For the past couple of weeks, both of them have been fighting like mad and it's bloody. The first brutal fight I witnessed was when Ryuuk bit Rem near the neck and it was bleeding. I thought Ryuuk was culprit because he is scared of people touching him and will pounce on your finger and bite if you try to touch him.

But I was wrong, it seems Rem is the culprit because I started noticing that Rem is always initiating the fights and chasing Ryuuk around in the cage.

Now I have seperated them and both of them have scars because of the fight.

I would like to know why Rem has become so brutal and disliking Rem so much. Before this, they were ok. Although they did fight, but only for a couple of seconds then everything's back to normal with both of them sleeping beside each other. Now they can't even stay in the same cage. Is it some mid-life crisis thing because they are a year old now.

Thanks.
*
What species..... actually, the best thing for you to do is separate. Syrians, Winter Whites.... they do not like to be together..... they prefer solitary life.... campbells can tolerate each other, Robos are more communal....

Hamsters normally sleep together for warmth, not because they love each other.....

If you're curious about my baby's name, here they are:
Mini-chan, the Agouti Winter White. He is named Mini because he resembles the father and so a mini-version of the father.
Junior-chan, another Agouti Winter White. He is named for the same reasons as Mini-chan. They are twins and they look very much alike. I can't even differentiate them.
Sophie, the Pearl Winter White. She is cute, always hangs out with her mother.

Nothing you could do. This genetics gone wrong.... So the furless and skinny ones eyes all big and open? Did you check their teeth? Are they eating? If they are not eating.... it is best you put them out of their misery coz it would be cruel to keep them alive.... Most likely could be from inbreeding coz this normally doesn't happen to health breedings.

Good luck looking for your perfect syrian!
last week at petshack only has 5, all cinnamon banded and they are kinda old if you dont mind not getting babies smile.gif
But maybe can ask them if they have new batch you can book lorrrr!

I've read in a lot of forums the exp of ppl getting syrian from petshops, their hamster always biting, scared and not friendly... I think because of the treatment they get and they never being handled, just sold at the petshop like some 'stuff'...

So be careful in choosing smile.gif but based on my experience getting MoFo in petshack, he is sooooo tame. He was cautious of course but it takes 2 days before he can climb on my palm now.  nod.gif

Added on December 19, 2007, 11:34 amI have questions people:

1. Is too much raisins not good? 1 raisin per day is ok?
2. Can I feed MoFo biscuit? The normal cream cracker? (square biscuit)
3. On MoFo head area, fur bit kotor, like he needs a bath biggrin.gif sure he doesn't need it? I so geram want to clean it biggrin.gif
4. Wodent wheel got at Ikano? I like the holes, haha!
5. Is there a wheel with suction that I can just hang on the tank wall instead of a stand one?
Thanks a lot nice people of hamsterlandddddd!

PetShack owner really feed and care for her hamsters very well, that is why tame. She handles them often when they were young. Other petshops buy in bulk supplies, then they never touch the hamsters, just throw food. If they need to move them, they pinch the scruff behind their neck, and if this is done in the wrong way, sure the hamster would feel pain and discomfort. That is why they bite. No human interaction, no proper care and no handling.

1. Raisins.... 1 a day is good.
2. The normal unsweeten and low-sodium cream crackers are ok. If you mean those cheap ones that are not by Jacob, then no.... those are high in salt and oil.
3. Just use a wet cloth to wipe any dirty parts.
4. Ikano carries Silent Wheels and Whisper Wheels and Habitrail Wheels..... I use a Whisper Wheel, 8 inches and it only cost like RM20+.... that was from Pets Wonderland. Now abit hard to find Whisper Wheels.
5. Wheel with suction, only Habitrail wheel got and it is big for Syrian..... erm.... it is the same type of wheel that you find inside the Safari set, Space station set .... just colour may be different.
