if they really serious about taking this action..i bet 90% of the dangerous driving on highway would be cars..and i fully supoort this
tinting is legal all car that came out from factory like p1/p2 have manufacturer tinting came with it very light tint
only brunei cars cannot have tint at all that's because the car window does come with a certain VLT already(not yet include factory tint) so don't install overly dark VLT
say the tint is rated 50% VLT, it will be 55% VLT including the window's original VLT
Brunei really cb ......even Malaysia car tinted go brunei they saman
gg. got +- 10% menteri cakap.. that is large range of margin..
this 1 better wait official JPJ words. i think he simply say on the spot. cuz of coz there will be a percentage which is considered margin of error. ie; u no watch windows also will effect the test results.
just now he got mentioned a bout current practice, which is middle man helps u take to shop to remove tint, then pass inspection, then go & re-tint back.

nope. those were the days when u need to swap those clear glass like estima/alphard then redo the whole thing
nowadays just bring em like factory fitted can pass already

No laa.. for cars like vellfire/estima/alphard/etc, salesman sends the car the workshop and replace all the dark windows with clear windows (rent the windows). Then, they bring the car to puspakom.. Once pass the puspakom inspection, they put back the original dark windows ..

what is the correlation between darkened rear windshield and chain collision? i mean we do have side mirror?
unless our car already equip with rear windshield camera connected to video rearview mirror like GM cars in Murica
Reply below is exactly why I said it is right.
Not sure bout you, but a driver that is smart and practice defensive driving will definitely appreciate a clear rear windscreen. We will never tail (even at the recommended 3 seconds safe distance) a vehicle that you can't see through from their rear windscreen.
QUOTE(teehk_tee @ May 7 2019, 01:32 PM)
When u follow a car, it's easier to anticipate front traffic jam or hazards if u can see thru his windshield.
These alphards often tailgate heavily.. And hv an undersized brake kit. So add a full blackout rear mirror.. Like trailing a lorry.

"As such, there is a drop in the bus drivers’ driving quality. That is why we hope that by increasing the fare for expresses buses, it will contribute to the increase of better services by the bus operators, as well as increase the wages of these drivers.
"This is so their (working) conditions will be better and their driving quality improves, so the number of accidents can decrease," he said.
easy solution: DON'T TAILGATE TOO CLOSE. have some gap in between. at least 2-3 cars gap.
some more, putting very dark tint at rear windscreen means all thieves can't see what's inside your car. now can safely put laptop bags/jewelleries inside when parking.

actually you forget one more point
align your car bit off-centre from the front car as it also help others to see you as well from the side mirror
i think doug demuro did demonstrate if you are driving lowered car and SUV/MPV cant see you, also a problem

I agree with you.
I usually slow down/brake even before the car in front of me brake, as I can clearly see what is happening to the traffic.
I cant do the same if i were behind truck, 4x4, alphard..
Shouldnt we all do the same? Anticipating the traffic?

You will be surprise the answer is no. If the answer is yes, the rear-ended accident will reduce dramatically.
From another point of view, If the answer is yes, there will be even more right lane hogger that drive slow with a 10 car distance from the vehicle in front.

dark glass is good if it's legal(for rear side window) because unlike tint, it doesn't work both way completely dark outside but from inside, still can see outside like 30%VLT and it filters heat very very well

I dont think japan government allow it for no reason
we all just use side mirrors to overtake others on the road.
we still can drive safely
overtake is 1 thing front windscreen is what u look out at all the time side window is for u to look at your blind spot whether by turning your head or by using wide rear view mirror
there is a reason why lorry so easily accident, many blindspot they can't see also a reason why they mostly only drive on the left lane

You never pass driving test is it. You have to maintain safe braking distance even if there is only one single car in front of you.
Hate fcking tailgaters like you. Might just suddenly brake in front of you so can claim your insurance kaw kaw

rear windscreen is there for a reason
I've been driving so many vehicles in many years since I got my license when I was 19, and I have encountered many morons on the road who cant even brake on time even when I was stationary at the traffic light.

I'm surprised there are "drivers" who think there are no benefits to looking through the car in front of them. Good luck to them if they are tailing a blur driver.
nope. dark glass is an option...not original come out of factory like that as u can see in the pic, front windscreen and driver both side window are clear
i've even see cars came from japan that has all clear window around the car(same model) dark glass itself is an option in japan, not default
"mana-mana individu boleh memohon untuk menggunakan cermin gelap (melalui lapisan filem atau kaca gelap) bagi semua cermin kenderaan atas faktor keselamatan dan kesihatan, dengan dikenakan fi RM50 bagi permohonan, RM5,000 jika lulus dan tiada fi atas sebab kesihatan. - Menteri Pengangkutan, Anthony Loke"
It is mean, you can use dark tint only if you pay?
japan allow because their car has 360 degree camera and their "u so called tint" is dark glass...not tint meaning outside look completely black but inside still can see what is outside
I often see Vellfire/Alphard at fastlane for 80-90km/h then behind got car cucuk them and flash them, yet they continue hogging the lane and didn't care what is in the back.
IMO 30% is sufficient for the rear windscreen, at least can see something, 0% will cause more problem if the driver is retard or having eyesight issue.

Finally! few years back tinted my mecidis super dark, damn enjoince if driving daytime.. never had any glare issues/hot issues etc... and i am using cheapo rm300 tinted only... if kena block and need to tear also wont feel damn hurt.. but never kena one

Then if the driver reverse out from a parking - the rear mirror cannot see (because of tint) - the driver turn head but behind windows cannot see (because of tint)
only thing left are the side mirrors?
Reverse out but cannot see if got car coming. Now already so many accidents, Loke want more accidents is it?

my complain to young driver nowadays is, it's not enough to only drive well on your own, but u hav to assume that every other road users are idiots & u hav to account for them making mistakes as well. ie, when following behind a car, not only u shud follow proper distance, but also prepare yourself to react against idiot driver on your left/right suddenly merge in without signal.

big boss kopi
it is time for your f12 to have rear view camera
if u can ask your driver to wait for 3 hours manual alignment, I dont see why you cannot ask your driver to install one
front vehicle slam emergency brake you still can react safely if you follow the two second rule
Don't tailgate is the common sense rule everyone already knows...the two second rule is only one factor that prevent you from kissing the ass of the car infront..you need to consider other safety factors as well when driving not only relying on the 2 second rule. Speed and prejudgement...if u driving at 100km/h, 2 second rule might not even work in ur favour.
easy solution: DON'T TAILGATE TOO CLOSE. have some gap in between. at least 2-3 cars gap.
some more, putting very dark tint at rear windscreen means all thieves can't see what's inside your car. now can safely put laptop bags/jewelleries inside when parking.

that's why got 4 seconds rule now
depending on your speed as well
but this is malaysia lah, common sense is only on paper
everyday we will encounter cbk who are
playing with hp while driving tailgaters and road hoggers who got ego as big as klcc
By default it is still 70:50:30 for the 30%** it would required one to apply for permission and pay for a reoccurring fee of 50-5000rm for 2 year validity
0% VLT for rear for what? most of the heat and UV sunlight come from the front.. we want darker front not rear useless guidelines, better don't announce la
Sokong if JPJ actively tahan those dark tinted vehicle to check permit regardless the driver has it or not. Just to make it a hassle for them and kopi money generator. Win for JPJ, win for dark tint worshipper, win for normal tint loyalist. Everyone win!
Pros: - can kidnap people easily - grab passengers feel bored - can put more ads and ugly stickers - can deliver baby (urgent cases) with more privacy
Cons: - can't see what is happening in front, bigger gap = longer jam - can't see whether the car in front is road hogging or not - can't see whether there are cars or motorcycles just before or after the blind spots - can't see whether friends and families car is following your direction - all these builds up to longer traffic jams and more accidents
comments section full of dumb people really. they think to tint dark need to pay 5k. all mau humban PH
yes all who comment and liked them are dumb kampung people.
but i dont understand also, why need 5k? only luxury cars will pay for them. if roadblocks or inspections, authorities sure will say "ini wira buruk tinted hitam mesti takde lesen, jom pau dia".
minister need to think the consequences before implementing something.
I am fxxking angry with u cibai who argue the good of all black rear windscreen. Giving so fxxking much excuses, lorry no windscreen also la, 2 seconds rule la, avoid theft la, not competent driver la, safe distance, bla bla.
U cibai don't have little daughter / son one ah? Now u don't have, in the future also will have. Even now already dangerous for those toddler & kids when those fxxking inexperience / reckless driver is reversing, with a clear rear windscreen.
Now with the new rule, it make them more dangerous. Why u cibai people just can't think using brain? I know why, bcuz u cibai people are retarded. Fxxk u.

People complaining about dark rear tints being dangerous, you obviously don't know that you're already suppose to keep a safe distance between you and the car in front IN ANTICIPATION of any unexpected emergencies. So if you rear-end the car in front of you and your excuse was that you couldn't see what's in front of the car ahead of you due to his dark tint, it means you're already too close to the car in front.

With the view from the rear view mirror completely gone, brace for more people suddenly coming into lane or bumping into your car. The rear view mirror gives much broader indication of what is going on behind. Side mirror has its own use, but will not replace the rear view mirror completely.
Also, babies or kids left in the back seat by an irresponsible parents will not be visible anymore. This new ruling will encourage more people to do this. Also, in case the kids in trouble or need help, no one will see.

The real reason as above It's just a guideline for the 0%VLT. It's up to you to decide if you really want to tint up to 0%VLT for rear windows. Police will obviously target to stop and check those fully tinted ones whenever there is a road block rather than just wave and let you pass.
If you think you need the 0%VLT, then by all means do so. Nobody will stop you. It's not wrong. With the new BMW HID as bright as the sun, accidentally seeing one coming from behind at dead night might result in very much discomfort to the eyes as it shines directly into the cabin of the car filling it with a UFO like lighting from X-Files.
It's all up to you! Nobody is forcing you for the 0% VLT.
Actually if you think about it the new regulation for dark rear windscreen tint doesn't really make any difference. Nowadays so many sohai put soft toys or pillow totaly blocking the rear windscreen. Plus some cars rear windscreen so small (looking at you mazda 2 and suzuki swift) that you can barely look ahead what with the headrest of the car blocking. And with the popularity of SUVs this is a moot point. If u driving SUV wont affect you since you can see ahead of other cars anyway. If you driving normal car behind SUV then you wouldnt see ahead also. Maybe this is gov hidden agenda to help proton sales... x70... x50... owaaiiiiittttt

U-turn or not, just stay with the current 70% front and 50% all, you're safe u don't want a tint that is too dark that obstruct u as a driver driving and other drivers on the road
All my vehicles have no additional tinting. Sometimes I wonder why people want to have their car so dark...must be hard to drive in low-light conditions...wonder if they tint the rear view mirrors too.
And I've seen many cars with very special bubble-wrap tinting in their rear windscreen
BTW do u accept vids of bad drivers for yr utube channel?
If both rear windows and rear windscreen are blocked, I guess it's "safer" if you leave your bags at the back of your car. Not easy to see if just the front passenger and driver side windows are allowed 50%VLT.
Also, those bag snatching rempits who ride motor from the back can't see how many occupants in the car. They usually target single lady drivers.
No need to pay anything unless you want your whole car 0%VLT. (edited)
Those of you not used to have a darkened rear windscreen don't have to tint it. It's up to you.

If want 100% fully dark tinted, need to apply. Rm50 fees to apply. If approve, pay rm5000. This permit valid for 2 years. If need fully tinted due to health reasons, no need to pay.

got pros and cons for this.
The cons is for the rear windscreen, if going on a freeway, you can't see the vehicle ahead current car in front of you at night. If there is sudden brakes and the driver was not paying attention or careless, it's gonna results in a chain reaction of mishap. So now it's better to even keep a further distance between cars.
agree on the back windows it can help in reducing vision for rempit who is preying on single lady driver. Although there is the anti snatch hook easily available to use it now days. But then again..you avoid leaving valuables in the alone.
QUOTE(andyjyneo @ May 7 2019, 05:41 PM)
Aiyo, I cannot tahan already, because my car totally have no tint. And the sun is so hot, till my steering leather also a bit cracked.
oh in that case, then nvm, unless you wanna nego to top up something extra but yea, the heat is over the limit now. Air fragrance is also dying even after 2 days under the hot sun. Really need to be under covered car parks.
what stupid rule is this? car sure got side mirror la! and what the relationship between side mirror and tint?
This is as a result if you tint your rear windscreen 100% block or 0% Visible Light Transmission, you can't really see your rear windscreen hence rear view mirror will be rendered pointless.
So your only guidance for looking vehicle on the rear is your side mirror.

Yeah I agree too that drivers can't see ahead the car in front, well... Have to start keeping a safe distance from all cars, just treat the car in front as a van or small lorry.. .. ... 😂
Of course it's not safe to leave bags in the car... At least with heavily tinted windows, I find it more convenient to keep our bags at the back instead of putting everything in the boot (to avoid being stolen)... During rainy days, we don't have to go take things from the back... It's more convenient especially for kids who carry school bags and ladies who have a few carry bags..

your point is valid. but remember there are side mirrors for you to use
using that logic those lorries and buses are way more dangerous since they dont have rear mirror
btw past cases on that negligence case
noticed how DARK the windows are?

2/4 seconds rule still apply
btw if you noticed the main culprit if driving at the highway these days are the malfunction 3rd brake lights
this one far more dangerous than having tint because you dont even know when that car is suddenly brake!

Correct! That's why it's useful to see the car in front of the car you're following. You'll be able to see it jam brake first before the car in front of you brakes.

Yup... Many years ago I almost kena... Luckily my kelisa was tinted... But I didn't put any handbags on the seats la...
The rempit picked the kancil, 2 cars in front of me..... A young girl's handbag was snatched from passenger side...
I noticed her car wasn't tinted at all. I was pretty sure that rempit skipped my car as he rode passed me at traffic light junction. Phew!!!
Since then, all our cars must be tinted... Haha...
I actually used to have permit from jpj for very dark tint, for our main car... But had to renew every year, changed car time a bit troublesome... Got plate number on the permit paper, sumore need to pay.. .. I'm not sure how much...😂

Tbh, I see no wrong behaviour on the part of the Merc driver. That Myvi was slowing down a faster vehicle and refused to get out of the way, despite having many opportunities to move to the left.
Perhaps they were going faster than the speed limit, but there is no need for the Myvi to play enforcement officer and deliberately slow faster vehicles down.

i put double layer for years still ok ( security tint + llumar )
tint is essentially plastic, so the hot sun baking your car's glass every day takes a real toll on the film's structure. this extreme heating and cooling cause cheap tint to fade and breaks down the adhesive, resulting in blurriness. without a functioning adhesive the tint can no longer conform to the curved shape of the glass and begins to stretch, crack, and bubble- leaving you with a real mess of a back window.
cheap thing no good, good thing never cheap

similar case happened to me last week
myvi hogging fast lane on an almost empty road at night
high beam but dont want to move
overtake from left high beam me balik
apa rancau
then i gone very far already, the car behind him flash him as well
- can apply, doesn't mean you'll be approved for dark tint even if you have RM5K - if criminal record, automatic reject - decided by committee, with all minutes recorded for check & balance - only for high profile or health reasons

True. Only ignorant and ego drivers hog on the right lane aka passing lane. Can drive fast but cannot signal left and move to left temporarily?

yeap..true.. sometimes..or most of the time i drove on the leftest lane, almost no traffic at all!
but when im overtaking on the right lane and there's this asshole drive so fast and cucuk2 my back, i will purposely take my own sweet time to overtake and switch lane.
