Well those are 'Chap Palang' type of theme park ...wont make much differences to local properties market.
Even those mainland Chinese theme park e.g. Wanda etc, dont have a global star power like a Disneyland and Universal Studios. When we have a major player like Disney , they will work their magic. Low value agricultural land (Felda/Felcra land) will transform into high value land. Many agricultural land owner near Johan Setia will be an instant millionaire should a big player like Disney decide to invest here. This may be a win win solution to solve the yearly haze issue at this location.

Well the reason I speculate it may be a Disney theme park are due to

a) Selangor Menteri Besar mentioned "RM15 billion theme park investment on 800 acres of land".
There are not many theme park companies in the world that can risk that much amount of capital.
Disney and Universal Studios are the top two in the world. Another Universal Studios doesnt make sense as we already have one nearby at Universal Studios Singapore.
FYI, Disney invested usd5 billion for the approx 900 acres theme park at Shanghai Disney in 2013.
With the current trade tension between US and China, it make sense to diversify their investment into other parts of the emerging markets e.g into South East Asia. etc
Genting Singapore soaring net profit led by the USS theme park (non-gaming revenue) has indicated that there are market and money to be made for theme park here in South East Asia. https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-...-business-grows

b) As recent as May 2018, Disney CEO is looking to build a new theme park/opportunities in other parts of the world.
Source: https://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201805/6092/
Disney CEO stated ' A new theme park in other part of the world is inevitable, but not immediate'.
One of their objective is to attract the wealthy Middle Eastern and South Asian customers.
Malaysia is well position for attracting tourism dollar for these type customers.
In addition to that, we also have an emerging middle class markets here in South East Asia (Indonesia, Philliphines, Thailand etc) . Total South east asian population is 661 million people is fairly sizable. https://www.worldometers.info/world-populat...sia-population/

We will see if the new Selangor Menteri Besar has any credibility on his words when he decide to release the negotiation news into the local media.
Obviously, as the Menteri Besar has mentioned these are still under negotations but he is optimistic.
A deal may not happen if parties cannot comes to an agreement on the terms.

Until Malaysia is removed from this watch list, Disney is unlikely to move ahead.

Do you realize even in HK, Disney didn't pay for the land?

These warning are for US citizens. Nobody/Very few from US will come to South east asia for their Disney theme park.
Their new focus are emerging middle eastern, south asians and emerging south east asian customers.
FYI US have travel warning to China also for US citizens, that does not stop Disney from investing in China.

Of course.
When it is a definite/confirmed news, most of the time it is late...land price and surrounding property price already soars in anticipations of the news:-)
Only the brave risk takers, makes the most profit. :-)
High risk, high return. That's the nature of speculations. tongue.gif

Yes indeed. High risk, high return and high losses also. History show; when speculative news reached da ma, kopitiam unkers and amateurs is about time to sell. Otherwise, there should be more than 4% of adults in this country have over us$100k net worth.

Mamak (Dr M) meeting key Disney executive at an event recently.
With Dr. M busy schedule, one would think he dont has time for these type of event or perhaps some other negotiation is already underway in the background. Perhaps when Mamak snaps his fingers, Disneyland Malaysia will materialize. hahaha

Fox studio belongs to Disney; If there is a fox studio at genting, Disney is unlikely will have Disneyland so close to fox studio. Besides, fox studio at genting could generate more taxes for gomen than at kuala Langat.

Disney has acquired/bought Fox recently.
Disney has ordered Fox to get out of the licensing deal entirely, since Disney did not want to be associated with a resort development that included a casino. Genting can sue as much as they want but there is 0% probability for Disney to work with Genting going forward.

According to the news, Genting sued Disney/Fox for breach of contract (link):
QUOTE
Disney, Fox sued in US for US$1b over Malaysia theme park

LOS ANGELES: Walt Disney and Twenty-First Century Fox were sued for more than US$1 billion on Monday (Nov 26) by casino operator Genting Malaysia, which accused them of abandoning a contract related to its planned construction of the first Fox-branded theme park.

Genting said "seller's remorse" induced Fox, with Disney's help, to breach its 2013 contract with Fox Entertainment Group to license intellectual property for Fox World, a proposed addition to its Resorts World Genting complex, an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur.

Disney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Dan Berger, a spokesman for Twentieth Century Fox Film, one of the defendants, declined to comment.

The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court in Los Angeles as Disney prepares to complete its US$71.3 billion purchase of many Fox assets, expected in the first quarter of 2019.

Genting said the problems began as Fox engineered years of delays to force a renegotiation of the contract, which did not give it a share of gate sales.

But according to the complaint, Disney is now "calling the shots," and wants to end the contract because associating with a gaming company didn't fit its "family-friendly" brand strategy.

Genting said Fox issued a default notice with the hope of terminating the contract, in a manner "entirely consistent with Disney wanting to kill the deal" to benefit itself.

"Given that FEG had no right to terminate the agreement, Fox and Disney are liable for what will exceed a billion dollars in damages attributable to the bad-faith behaviour of both Fox and Disney," the complaint said.

Genting said it had already made a "US$750 million-plus investment" in Fox World. It is also seeking punitive damages.

According to the complaint, Resorts World Genting contains Malaysia's only legal land-based casino, seven hotels, shopping malls, performance venues, gondola lifts and scores of restaurants, bars and clubs. More than 23 million people visit each year, the complaint said.

The park had been slated to open in 2016 but because of the delays, the developer hoped to open it in 2019. It was set to feature rides and other attractions based on such blockbusters as Ice Age, Life of Pi, Alien and Night at the Museum.

Built on more than 10 hectares, the park was to feature more than 25 rides and attractions.

It was due to replace an older outdoor theme park, which is part of Resorts World Genting located at the peak of an area known as Genting Highlands.

The case is Genting Malaysia Bhd v Fox Entertainment Group LLC et al, US District Court, Central District of California, No. 18-09866.

Source: Agencies/nc

Doesn't look like Fox Studios will take off in Genting after all. Similar to what happened to Dreamworld (Dreamworks) at MAPS.

With this in mind, I'm not even sure if Disney would want to set up a theme park here in the near future. hmm.gif
