Laughing at comment who said no censorship will improve movie quality.
If sex scene is your benchmark to define movie is good thats just reflect how shallow ur mind is.
But then again this is /k, where argument is invalid.. So nvm la
Tell me if we're allowed to make a movie which suggest corruption in the police force, the government and semi-realistic portrayal of the the underworld. Or movie suggesting corrupt political dealings. If sex scene is your benchmark to define movie is good thats just reflect how shallow ur mind is.

At least Indonesia has The Raid and its sequel, which may be fictional and not be the best, but good enough that Hollywood would wanna make their own adaptation. Do we have one of equal? We have the story of the Carrian Group, if anyone bother or dare to make a movie out of it.
As of 2018, Amir Muhammad's movie of Lelaki Komunis Terakhir which was made in 2006 is still being banned. It may not even be a good movie but why? And remember the movie "Dukun" of Mona Fandey murder & trial? Only recently in 2018 the ban was lifted although it was also filmed in 2006. Partly due to the portrayal of a particular assemblyman of a particular political party being involved in black magic.
If J. K. Rowling is born local, Harry Potter won't see a the light of day because "sihir & tahyul" and religious bodies, NGOs and political parties will make noise. And our authors are busy writing cheap romantic novels. Just go to MPH or any bookstore & look at the best-sellers ranking for local publications.
And obviously James Wan made his mark in the industry abroad, not locally. Why is that?
But then again, maybe Malaysians indeed are simplistic & shallow as you have suggested. Only sex crossed their mind when people speak of censorship.
