Sony has confirmed the price cut officially at their official blog and confirmed also by SCEA President & CEO Jack Tretton.

We're introducing a new PS3 model with a 80GB hard drive which will include a free copy of MotorStorm, all for the retail price of $599. This 80GB package will be available starting in August, just a few short weeks from today. The larger hard drive will give players more of an opportunity to take advantage of all the downloadable games and trailers on the PLAYSTATION Network, including the content from our forthcoming download service which will include videos, movies and other entertainment content.

In addition, as some of you speculated last week, we confirmed today that we are lowering the price of our current 60GB PS3 by $100, to $499, effective immediately in North America. I know many of you were eager to hear this and we're thrilled to share this with you now as we head into E3.

I'm providing off-line installation, so new PS3 owners don't have to go through downloading-time through PSN. Just in a few minutes, you can have all PS3 demo games available installed in your PS3.

Sixaxis to Get Rumble This September?

Rumble maker Immersion has announced it has entered into a partnership with gaming peripheral manufacturer Katana Game Accessories, which "will begin distributing peripherals for Sony PlayStation products in North America" in September bearing the TouchSense logo.

It has been widely reported that the new TouchSense technology will be utilized to create a new, rumble-enabled, PS3 Sixaxis controller.

Sony reportedly informed Kotaku that rumble is definitely coming to PS3, it's just a matter of when, and this latest press release from Immersion certainly raises the possibility that it could be in September.

"Under the terms of the license, these products will now bear Immersion's Feel The Game TouchSense Technology logo," reads the press release from which the news emanated.

Speed no difference I think. I think I read somewhere. For the hard-disk, 2.5" SATA only.

You can backup to an external hard-disk, and restore it back to the new HDD.
