if you wonder whether to spend extra cash for iphone xs or xr, can see here...hehe

xs vs s10e (same size 5.8 inch)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzyAzWBIA3E
xr vs s10e (6.1 lower resolution vs 5.8)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM1RimuBfU8

to me, i still give the win to s10e hehe...value for money
*
Haha. Very hard to compare without getting to Android vs iOS.
To me the XR is definitely out. The display alone is far behind, to charge such a price.

So what is the best way to charge the phone with maintaining the best health of the battery?
*
The best is to keep the charge at 40% and store it in the freezer. It will minimize the depletion. thumbsup.gif

On LTE or WiFi?

QUOTE(attw @ Mar 11 2019, 03:47 PM)
LYN just ran an article on how unsecured it is  bro. I'll take the slower fingerprint sensor for now smile.gif

https://www.lowyat.net/2019/179785/samsung-...-photos-videos/
*
All single-cam image output is a 2D output. Basically, all face recognition using the same tech has the same issue.

Not sure you guys are aware or not. The S10/+ fingerprint scanner makes the phone to wake up (to show the fingerprint logo) when we touch the screen even though we turn off AOD and double tap to wake. The issue is, I suspect it's waking up we put the phone inside pocket. The pocket is thin and the screen is touching the leg. Each time I took out without touching the screen, it is showing the fingerprint logo. sweat.gif That's a wakelock disaster when we walk a lot.

the option to show the finger print logo on screen is a seperate setting from the AOD. you can find it in the fingerprint settings menu

so far i have no issues with wake lock, with the prevent accidental touches setting turned on

Found it. Thanks! icon_rolleyes.gif

If anyone still has the 2016 galaxy tab a7.0, just advertise it on carousell. Demand is still high there.
*
I still have lol. What's the average price there?

BTW today full office day with dual SIM, one weak signal...the battery performance sucks. S10 here. Charged to 92%. 2K resolution. Adaptive power saving.
Attached Image

FYI a common day like this, P20 Pro still have 66% left. doh.gif

Battery capacity itself is the issue. 4000 mAh battery vs 3400 mAh. The fair comparison would be against the S10+.
*
P20 Pro has 20% more battery but way older chipset. Even if I included the 20% extra, the P20 pro still has way better battery management.

Another thing I noticed is how the P20 pro battery is consistent. It never made me think which app or setting breaking the power consumption.

Of course its free.. dont have to buy any software..
Step 1. Open WhatsApp on iPhone and log in your account.

Step 2. Navigate to "Settings" > "Chats" > "Chat Backup".

Step 3. Tap the "Back Up Now" button to start backing up current WhatsApp Data

Step 4. Download and install WhatsApp on your Android phone.

Step 5. Sign in WhatsApp account. WhatsApp will pop up asking you whether to restore data from backup for the first time.

Step 6. Choose on "Restore" if prompted to restore from WhatsApp iCloud, and wait until it's done.

http://www.ifonetips.com/how-to/transfer-w...ne-android.html
*
That article is a lie! doh.gif
Up till now, WhatsApp in Android doesn't restore backup from iOS server and vice versa. You need transfer the decrypted backup from iOS to a local database and copy it to the Android. That's why need third party backup software.

QUOTE(rebus @ Mar 11 2019, 08:59 PM)
that simple? the last time this was asked someone mentioned have to use BackupTrans software.
*
It doesn't work that way. Read above.

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Mar 11 2019, 09:02 PM)
Not sure when did they last updated the site. From my experience, the earlier EMUI (P10 era) and MIUI were too aggressive and crap in handling intended backup tasks. But EMUi had improved tremendously. I didn't have background tasks issues with the P20 Pro. It had other issues but not really the reason why the battery life is strong.

QUOTE(attw @ Mar 11 2019, 09:03 PM)
Ya bro, I had the P20 Pro for a month, and Huawei’s EMUI is a little more aggressive with power management than Samsung, especially in terms of standby drain. Was hoping the new One UI and Android 9 and the new chipset would help, but early signs are not encouraging laugh.gif
*
What kind of SOT r u getting?

QUOTE(triple02 @ Mar 11 2019, 09:12 PM)
Some battery update:

Unplugged last night at around 1am at 93%..was on 3G/4G all the way. Used it in the train, work etc

I’m sure I could have gotten more than 6 hours screen time If the device wasn’t idle for long periods.

S10+ Not too bad at all
*
Not bad at all man. Can last a day with heavy usage. Do u use FHD+ or QHD resolution? Did u setup the Bixby?

My onyx ringke casing kind of slippery. It has sturdy build but licin a bit on my hand. I afraid it will slip off.

What casing u guys use now that can give some sort of comfortable feeling when holding it?
*
That's why I don't understand why people like clear case or shinny surface case. It's not grippy at all.
I prefer silicone case. Dust magnet but our phone is rated IP68. I just simply use water to clear the dust.

Battery standby is much stable and better now as battery life drops much slower when in idle compared to when it was in usage pattern learning 2 days ago. So those who encountered fast battery draining in the first few days, the culprit could well be the AI is running actively in the background to learn your usage pattern hence draining more juice
*
Mine is opposite lol. Stopped learning, and battery consumption gone south.
Now I just put most of the apps I don't use to "restrict background usage". See what happen next.

Tried flight mode before. Doesnt work. Under battery usage Android OS has consistently high battery usage, as high as Device Idle. Not sure what is causing this
*
My S10 with flight mode on but with WiFi on. Drained 8% for 8 hours of sleep.

QUOTE(ipohps3 @ Mar 13 2019, 03:14 PM)
I think the culprit for battery drain even when idle and on flight mode is the app named "Bixby" voice wake-up. I don't have Bixby enabled when when checked it says 12 % drained since last charge.
*
Did you sign in Samsung acc and setup Bixby?

I just uninstalled Samsung Pay, set one SIM to Edge (due to weak LTE signal) and set to FHD+. It seems to improve my standby drain. Not sure which setting though, although I suspect is not the resolution because the phone was sleeping.

Ok I clear cache partition as someone here suggested and now Android OS battery usage is back to normal levels (~4%). But strangely the change reflected immediately after i rebooted my phone without the need to fully charge it first hmm.gif
*
There are two possibilities:
1) A reboot without clearing the cache might have fixed your battery draining issue. Have you tried it before clearing the cache?
2) Or clearing the cache really did solve your issue. In that case, it will be reflected immediately. No need to wait for the next charge cycle.

Go to developer option and change the smallest width to slightly larger value. Becareful though, it will change every rendered item size. After reboot it will reset back to default value you set in display.

Yes comparing camera pictures of a phone that has had multiple camera updates last year and a phone that was just released last Thursday would be a stark but fair comparison. sad.gif

Which version of the S10 are u using?
*
S10.

QUOTE(darenlks @ Mar 13 2019, 08:46 PM)
Good grip except when trying to lift the phone which is lying flat on the table

I see.

QUOTE(attw @ Mar 13 2019, 08:54 PM)
Thanks guys!
Yes, I would agree nod.gif
*
But then, in Pro mode, f/1.5 and slow shutter speed, low light output is not bad at all. It's just that it's not high dynamic range like image-stacking night mode. I haven't do a proper comparison but I think S10's OIS seems to be better. It's just that I don't see how it can get same DxOmark score as P20 pro lol.

Battery still dropped 9% in less than 8hrs from full charge on airplane mode even after following some tweak of the members here.. And after turning on WiFi and data, it drastically drop another 2%.. doh.gif
*
Earlier, I had similar battery consumption (~9% drop) during 8-hour sleep. My settings are: Aeroplane mode but with WiFi turned on.

After a brief test, I have managed to get lesser sleep consumption. It only dropped 5% overnight. And I got much better WiFi SOT after doing the following yesterday:
1) Location OFF
2) Uninstalled Samsung Pay (this read this
3) Switch to FHD+

I will observe more today.

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Mar 14 2019, 09:19 AM)
Not sure whats causing your device to consume more power during idle

This is mine

QUOTE(redclarity @ Mar 14 2019, 10:25 AM)
My battery still drains 8-10% overnight, even after following all the tweaks shared by sifus here. Im gonna follow the advise given from S8 thread last time la, stop obsessing on the battery and just enjoy the phone instead. Think a few posted this too few pages back. And coming from an S8, the battery is much better.

Anyone here from roadshow havent received emails from Samsung yet? I still havent received mine on the warranty.
*
For me, I'm very curious what is the issue that causing it to drain so much. I will find that task...and then I will kill it. tongue.gif

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Mar 14 2019, 11:28 AM)
just found out if you use the gesture function instead of navigation buttons, you can choose to turn off gesture hints at the settings. this will give you a true full screen experience. but I only recommend u turning off after you're used to it
*
A bug: We can't switch to the previous app by swipe right if we disable the gesture hints.

Hi guys, may i pls ask something. Currently using S8. Just got the S10 + as a gift from wifey.

My question, why does my s8 display look brighter and sharper compared to the S10+ ?

There is no adaptive display, only vivid or natural.

Thanks guys
*
This is weird. Probably is because of scaling? I don't have S8 beside me but I don't remember my S10 looks worse in any app.

QUOTE(koji188 @ Mar 14 2019, 02:49 PM)
Has anyone gotten the S10 coming from a Note 9? I'm actually really tempted to get the S10E. I really can't deal with the size of my Note 9. Too damn big. My biggest concern will definitely be the battery life. I'm getting average 6-7 hours SOT with 15-20% left at night. Any S10E users mind sharing their battery life usage?
*
Impossible for S10E to last that long I guess. With WiFi maybe it's possible.

Yeah. that's the smarter way of buying new phones. No worthwhile free gift , no buy.

Nowadays , all smartphones including the iphones will only sell well within the first two weeks of launching.

P20 Pro was launched at RM3299 with weak free gifts but a lot of people took advantage of vouchers. This round not so much vouchers anymore. So it's interesting what price they going to put.

Samsung Commits to Improving Galaxy S10’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner After Continuous Negative Feedback From Users

“There can be many occasions where users find the fingerprint scanner doesn’t work well, for example, when you are in a dry environment, or when your finger skin is really dry, or when you have a scratch on your fingerprint,” said a Samsung official.

EXACTLY.

https://wccftech.com/samsung-ultrasonic-fin...e-improvements/
*
Actually I noticed the main issue with the finger print scanner is the size of the sensor is too small. Had it been 10% wider, it would have solve a lot of issues. Now I'm comfortable with it. Memory muscles have kicked in.
