Is there any update to fix GPU power limit throttling on 9th gen selenite when the battery is absent?
I remember notifying this more than 3 months ago because my battery got swollen in 10 months and I had to remove it. |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Sep 7 2020, 02:09 PM) Yes Eric from Tongfang QA team has officially confirmed their vendor's IC problem on 8750H + RTX motherboards, luckily we only import small volume of this batch due to too closed to the release of 9th gen + RTX. Our team will assist you to DOA your laptop with TF. Any update for this?As for the battery, if it's covered under 2 year warranty but your battery warranty has ended, we can provide some discount for you on another new battery. QUOTE(Jared21 @ Oct 4 2020, 09:25 PM) Apparently this is a thing with this laptop. After every shut down it will always boot up with 99% battery and the system will charge it. So far having this laptop for more than half a year, no sign of battery wear on HWinfo and i'm still getting decent hours of work when not plugged in Mine got swollen in 10 months. I am hoping that is just bad luck. Could you try gaming without battery to see if there is GPU PL throttling?Doubt that this is good for the battery so i really hope we can get like maybe a bios/EC update to prevent this |

QUOTE(Jared21 @ Oct 5 2020, 03:38 PM) Without battery? Sure can do but give me a few days. Quite busy with Uni atm. Also do you have any specific conditions you want me to run the test under? I was planning on using the AC Odyssey benchmark on turbo mode Thanks. Nothing specific. Just keep afterburner open and check for memory clock too. It doesn't goes above 810 Mhz for me. QUOTE(Prince J @ Oct 5 2020, 10:02 PM) This battery phenomenon has been brought up by forumer last year on this thread, we have forwarded to TF FAE team and it's completely normal according to them. No BIOS update at all? This must be some kind of joke. There will be no BIOS / EC update because it was designed this way on SELENITE. QUOTE(Prince J @ Oct 5 2020, 10:02 PM) Again, battery MUST NOT be the primary power source. It isn't rocket science. Why does GPU PL throttling goes away when driver is re-installed but comes back after os restarts or wakes from hibernation? |

QUOTE(amir.asyraf @ Oct 7 2020, 02:30 PM) Reading back from previous pages, seems they're saying the 230W power brick alone can't supply enough to the laptop under full workload demand. But if that's the case I haven't seen my battery level drop after a prolonged gaming session. It is acceptable to have lower performance if you are trying to run games on battery. But getting the same when trying to run games on direct AC power is not.About the GPU PL throttling thing, what's that about? I've removed the battery from my selenite because it got swollen in 10 months and now I'm getting GPU PL throttling. I don't think Illegear team is trying to get it fixed. If I knew how to fix that via bios coding, I'd have done it myself. |

QUOTE(Jared21 @ Oct 13 2020, 10:23 PM) No way a 230w power brick cant power the machine under load. Even at full power draw there is at least 20 to 30w left in reserve coming from the brick And still, they are trying so damn hard to convince me that battery needs to be in the laptop for better GPU performance. |

QUOTE(Gentleman_League @ Oct 21 2020, 08:25 AM) I've made my decision and i might go for the Selenite G and i will be placing order by 30/10. They are offering some Halloween bundle. I have 9th gen Selenite with 46Wh battery. Ensure you don't get a bad battery or it'd get swollen in few months, you'd need to remove it and then would get GPU power limit throttling even when laptop is plugged in. |

QUOTE(Gentleman_League @ Oct 22 2020, 07:19 AM) i wont be plugging unless im gaming or battery are running low. For work use (documentation) i might not plugging in as well. Shouldn't be a problem right? Mine had zero wear and I didn't even use the laptop on battery much (that too for non-intensive tasks). I only got to know about swollen battery because I wanted to do regular cleaning. |

Are you able to use Intel XTU while Illegear Command Center is installed and running? The command center doesn't lets the CPU go above 40W, even in turbo mode and that is hurting CPU dependent tasks.

QUOTE(clivengu @ Dec 7 2020, 12:45 PM) Mine too.. mine almost exactly 1 year.. no warranty for battery.. and I only use 99.9% plugged in! Is it legal for Illegear to sell laptops with batteries known to have such high failure rates? Is there a consumer forum we can approach in Malaysia to file a complaint with the government? This post has been edited by SaiyanGoku: Dec 7 2020, 04:05 PM |

QUOTE(clivengu @ Dec 7 2020, 08:42 PM) Yeah.. thats costly for me.. so I have to skip the idea... A laptop is supposed to have a working battery backup. If they are selling laptops with batteries having high failure rates, I would consider this as a fraud. They themselves know this batch of battery has issue, but they are not replacing them for us free. The best they can do is just give discount... chilskater liked this post

QUOTE(Uzumaki NaruTo @ Dec 7 2020, 10:55 PM) Yup this battery problem really sucks. I dont mind if the battery degrades but why would it effect the notebook performance is whole different can of worm. what kind of design decision that goes that oh lets screw the user if they dont use the battery and lets make it degrade for continuous profit. 100% agreed.I am facing GPU PL throttling because of no battery (for about 7 months now) and Illegear team says selenite is designed like this. I mean who was stupid enough to make this bad design decision? QUOTE(chilskater @ Dec 7 2020, 11:03 PM) last time got forumer who can replace the laptop battey but replacing the original battery (inside-18650) with quality ones.. Would you be able to share how he did this? 18650 are cylindrical but most Illegear laptops have flat Li-Ion cells AFAIK.This post has been edited by SaiyanGoku: Dec 8 2020, 01:48 AM |

QUOTE(Gentleman_League @ Dec 8 2020, 07:35 AM) Tbh all laptop battery cant really last long, I had a Alienware M14X before i bought Illegear the battery are facing same issue after 1-2years it starting to depletes same goes to Iphone.. So i guess its really common I haven't seen a single swollen battery in any of the Lenovo, Dell, Asus, Acer, MSI and HP laptops which my friends and family are using. 3 of them are >6 years old too. This post has been edited by SaiyanGoku: Dec 8 2020, 04:21 PM |

QUOTE(tiggywombat @ Dec 11 2020, 07:15 PM) Then you should send in to them for the warranty claim, I am sure they will replace the battery since it is within warranty period. Any other brand/company would do the same. Sucks to be in this situation TBH. If I knew Illegear has such poor QC on batteries I wouldn't have bought from them. EDIT: Just noticed you are from India. Pretty sure they can't help you since you are in another country, and batteries cannot be shipped overseas. This post has been edited by SaiyanGoku: Dec 12 2020, 12:47 AM |

QUOTE(Jared21 @ Dec 29 2020, 02:23 PM) Not defending them here or anything but i dont think Illegear does QC for batteries. Usually it should be done at the factory by Tongfang or Clevo before being sent out to their partners or at least by the manufacturer of the batteries themselves Then it would be a bigger problem than I imagined. |

Long term usage observation:
I have to clean up the vents in every month or so. Dust buildup is real and once cleaned, the peak temperatures go down by as much as 30° C. Can anyone suggest some dust filters I can stick or use below the intake vents? |

QUOTE(clivengu @ Jan 16 2021, 03:24 PM) 6months in... my "new" battery is bloated again.... everytime it bloated, the battery expanded and pressed hardly onto the keyboard cables, causing my keyboard to malfunction completely.. only then I realise the battery issue is back...I have to remove the battery in order for they keyboard to work again. Now it really seems to me like a issue in BIOS or firmware which keeps battery as primary power source instead of AC power and hemorrhaging it intermittently (going undetected). Do you face any GPU power limit throttling in any game and could you check it via MSI afterburner?I thought the original batch battery has issues, and they have replaced with a good batch? Seems like im just bloody unlucky ? |
