Wow, that’s impressive!
My iPhone 12 is down to 89% since bought in September 2020.

I just got iphone xs max from my wife after she upgraded to ip13. My previous iphone is 6 year old iphone 8 plus, and i think iOS17 will be the LAST update before it can’t be supported anymore. sad.gif

Here are few of my questions:

1. I understood this phone utilizes FaceID technology to unlock the phone. Very convinience indeed when i am INDOORS at my house/less people.
But i am unable to unlock when using face mask during outside. Saw a few youtube videos to “trick” the phone to allow face unlocking when putting on face mask, but got some comments saying, it will work 50-70% of the time, or it won’t work later afterwards. Is there any proper workaround to this? Only iphone 12 and above have the ability to unlock while wearing face mask am i right?

2. I also know we can unlock phone if we have apple watch. If i have apple watch SE, can i unlock even if i wear face mask? And will it also unlock related banking apps that need to use FaceID in the first place?

3. Already replaced the battery at Switch last week at RM380. Before this the battery health was at 83% after 4 years of usage. But still i find xs max is quite the battery juice guzzler, even on normal usage?

4. I aim to get iphone 15 when apple decided to put USB-C port, and they have iron out the green screen/white screen issue that has been plaguing 13/14 pro series due to imperfected 120Hz refresh rate technology. Funny my ipad pro M1 doesn’t have this green screen/white screen issue even though it’s using 120Hz. hmm.gif

appreciate your feedback guys. Thanks!

Here are what I know from experience:

Q1: Yes, only iPhone 12 and above supports FaceID unlock with face mask on.

Q2: Yes, SE can unlock the phone when worn. But it doesn’t work for banking applications or any other app authentication, it doesn’t work, still requires face unlock.

About the other 2 questions, I am unsure hence others might be able to help.

Hi guys,

Seeking advise whether it is still worth changing the battery at RM380.00 for my XS Max.

Phone is still in good condition and functional, no dents or scratches.

Thanks.

I think it’s pretty worth it considering XS Max is still blazing fast for everyday usage even by today standard.

I too recently bought a used XS Max from Compasia and it’s absolutely mint. But the battery health is at 80% and i am gonna replace the battery later on this week at Switch.

If you ever want to upgrade to a newer iphone, I’d suggest you to wait a little longer for iPhone 15 series this year as it’s pretty much confirmed that Apple will start using USB-C in all of their iPhone lineup, just that the normal (non-pro) will be gimped to USB 2.0 speed (same as current lightning).

Thanks for the replied.

Is the battery replacement at Switch lower than RM380.00?

I have bought 14 Pro Max for my wife, as the XS Max battery health have declined to around 78%.

I asked for a quote from those Kiosk phone repair shop. They quoted me RM250 original battery. Can be changed within 30 mins.

My XS Max is on 85%. Looking to change battery myself too.

Which iOS version are you on? I previously had this issue too when on 16.4. Updating to 16.4.1 and the issue went away, with better battery life too.

Hi all XS Max users, at what point do u change ur phone battery to a new one? I’m currently at 78% and iPhone just suggests to “Service” it. My phone has been getting pretty hot lately with just simple browsing on Shopee or Lazada (socmed and WhatsApp is ok tho).

Also who’s on iOS 16.6? Is it better or worse performance? I’m currently on 16.1, unsure whether to proceed.

the whole ios 16 is the worst so far but it's wise to always stay updated. as for the battery, if can last a day for your usage then no hurry to change🙈
