I just know 1 thing A200 is going to launch next week (9 Jan) in Mid valley, and a100 is no longer available from Sony center.

Some users wondered about so-called "Phantom" pixels in their images. Well, so here they are again.

Now why's that ? The Pentax K10D has an extremely weak vertical AA filter. An AA filter is a low-pass filter that smooths the discrete "steps" caused by the sensor pixels. A weak or non-existent AA filter results in Moiree-effects - this is where the "false" colors come from. The reason for the phantom pixels is a bit more mysterious. It could originate in the pixel layout on the sensor or in the pre-processing by the camera in conjunction with the demosaic algorithm. It is also quite obvious that ACR shows the very best output quality inc. the least amount of artifacts.

The AA filter aspect became pretty much obvious during the local lens tests where the vertical resolution turned out to be 50% (!) higher than on the horizontal axis - that's a quite unique behavior so far. All other cameras produced a symmetrical resolution characteristic. The horizontal AA filter is a bit more aggressive compared to the Nikon D200 or Sony Alpha.

Now is this something bad ? Not necessarily. You may argue that this is a design decision because the potential resolution is roughly 10-15% higher compared to other Sony-based DSLRs (Nikon D200, Sony Alpha 100). That's assuming you use a capable RAW converter naturally - the Pentax PhotoLab or straight JPEGs do not qualify here. As we've seen the extra resolution doesn't come for free. This is probably also the reason why straight JPEGs as well as PhotoLab RAWs are comparatively soft because Pentax decided to apply an inferior software low-pass filter here resulting in sub-optimal results.

Minolta lenses have always been regarded for their "liquid" bokeh and color consistency across lenses. (This is one thing Canon did not bother with - matching color coatings.) No, bokeh is not as simple as "big circles" or "smooth backgrounds". Good bokeh shows when you have a complicated background, but it smoothens out nicely, is not too contrasty (gives a 2D poster background) and has nice color.

If you really love bokeh, Google the Minolta/Sony 135mm F2.8/T4.5 Smooth Transition Focus lens. It is unique to the Alpha mount, and no other lens comes close to the effect it gives.

ALL Sony lenses except the 28mm F2.8 have circular aperture blades.

The Canon 50mm F1.4 Mark I is a slowpoke, much slower than the Sony with 50mm F1.4, vincent_audio I believe we have had a hands-on.

I have a Tamron 200-400mm F5.6 (under RM1500 new) and the Sony will stabilize it. I know I don't use a tripod for shots at 1/60s even.

Here's another thought - holding your camera out when using LiveView will add camera shake, since it's not resting against your face. Also, LiveView kills your shutter count each time you AF. Yes your shutter will die twice as fast.

I don't know, it seems like those Sony haters suddenly come into our thread arguing about how 'value' our Sony system is since the release of A200. I never recall them being in our 'home' before this

1. The official price is RM1999 for single lens kit, and RM2499 for two lens kit. It will not increase. You can get slightly cheaper at shops other than Sony Style.

2. A lot of options from Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, and some older collections from Cosina (100mm f3.5 macro less than RM1k!!!), Vivitar, etc. You can also obtain mount adapters to suit those old manual lenses from MD mount, M42, etc...

The adapter is included due to promotion. It's not actually part of the kit, hence it's written on receipt. When I purchase my a100 (which includes adapter by default), the adapter is already inside the box.

BTW if you're so keen on the prime lens why not take RM 1800 (single kit lens) + extra cash for the prime lense. Still a good bargain I believe. Or just trade all the lenses for something up to your liking. Can this be done?

If i knew the A200 will be out after 6 months after i bought my A100, for sure i will wait for A200 as it's even cheaper. Somemore you guys describe it until so nice. Haha..
But since already got A100 at first place, so have to appreciate it too.

if u buy only SAL1870 lense,the lense come with 1 year warranty as well

they are no different between u buy from sony style or retail shop
