ellist:Yes, ultimately the Coverage (measured in %) and Magnification (measured in 1x) only affects your experience of viewing through the lens. It does not affect your picture.

The A300/A350 has a smaller viewfinder but it is about the same as the Canon 400D so it's still okay!
All camera manufacturers by right should produce sensors for as many cameras, and then produce another batch of sensors just for replacement. They also have to keep the replacement parts for as long as there are cameras out there with warranties.
The Sony A100 used a quite-new 10 MP CCD.
If you buy a Nikon D40 it uses the older Sony 6 MP CCD.
When the D40 CCD dies, you can't replace the CCD. If the A100 10 MP CCD dies, it could be replaced, because they still make them for the Sony A300, Nikon D40x, Pentax K10D, Nikon D80...
Honestly the only Sony dSLR that you'd consider obsolete is the A100 - the A100 battery cannot fit in another other Sony dSLR but the A200/A700 battery can fit in the A100. Also, the A200 vertical grip fits the A300/A350.
NikonI know for one that Nikon doesn't do the 'replacement' procedure properly, because my friend's SB-28 flash had batteries inside and they leaked. They threw away the battery cover and then said they couldn't fix it. Could he get a replacement battery cover? No, they don't make it anymore. Was the flash working? Yes. If they didn't throw away the battery cover, at least I can DIY and put metal connectors on it. My friend then gave me the SB-28 for my birthday to see if I could make it work.

The first version was this - I put coins over the batteries and taped it in. Very loose though, always turned itself off.
CanonThey replaced an old spoiled Ixus with a newer generation one. Dunno where which forum also. Of course don't expect the same treatment for dSLRs LOL.
So what about Sony?Somebody in Malaysia (dunno where which forum already) brought his Konica Minolta 5D to service because of some problem. They couldn't fix it, and he got a Sony A100.
I have a Minolta 70-210mm F4 "beercan" which had a loose focusing ring; sent it to Sony, the estimate said RM60. When I went to pick it up, the bill was free!
ewin:
ALL Sony lenses come with hoods, front caps and back caps. I know Canon is cheapskate you have to buy the hoods separately.
From what i experience.. Canon provide very good service for their digicam (pns) not sure bout dslr
I use to have Canon A80... after 2 -3 years of using...one day the LCD screen spoiled... I bring to canon...they repair for me for free...eventhough d warranty is over long ago.
Another case is my friend's ixus 2.0 megapixel... Image capture got some problem. warranty over.. she bring to canon...and in d end they replace it with a brand new ixus 4.0 megapixel for her with no extra cost....
