Hi gurus. Just need to pick your brains on certain things. The scenario:

- currently on the 30mbps plan using standard equipment that came from TM
- 1,000 sq ft standard condominium i.e. 3 room + 2 bath, concrete walls, etc.
- wireless router currently in the living room next to TV and entertainment equipment

My PC is situated in the middle room and bedroom is in the further most room. I noticed that sometimes I face trouble streaming Netflix/Youtube on my PC although the wifi bar on the PC is full or close to full.

Also, wifi signal not strong in the bedroom which is furthest from the router.

My question is, what's the best way to improve coverage in my modest home? Mesh network or a more powerful router?

Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Mesh

I personally prefer the Deco M5 as the performance is better and the entire user experience is better. smile.gif

Avoid the Tenda MW6, the performance pale in comparison.
*
I can vouch for this. Avoid Tenda get other brand such as TP Link

Wifi speed also depends your device. My Galaxy S3 only gets around 30Mbps. I'm on Unifi 800. Dunno what to do with the remainder 770Mbps.
*
Save the 770 for future use haha

Hi guys..Thanks for the replies. TM technician visited my house today. Turns out the cables are the problems. All my cables are labeled Cat 5E, but it turned out only some of it really support the correct speeds. I guess the rests are incorrectly labeled (probably fake). Feels quite relieved now that I know the problem.

either low quality cables or bad crimping

All ASUS AiMesh system and TP-Link Deco M5 and M9 support HyppTV

HyppTV is only supported on main unit. And if you purchased those mesh system with 2 ports, you will be left with no additional ports for your other devices.
*
True. Been there.

Mesh with 2 ports are troublesome for those who wants to watch HyppTV and using LAN/switch at same time. U will have to choose either LAN or HyppTV.

Hi. Currently I am using Asus RT AC1300UHP router.

However due to dk what reasons, my router is on first floor and my smart TV is on ground floor. I can say the internet speed for my smart TV is really slow and can hardly load a youtube video. Do I use mesh wifi or powerline ??

Besides, I am using a very old TM modem which I dont know if they are supposed to change it. I am currently running on the 300 Mbps speed and I am getting approx 300 mbps on my phone on the 5Ghz band but 5Ghz cant be received on the ground floor
*
given that u get 300mbps speed test, means your Modem supports 1gbps.

for your issue its either weak signal, congested, TV wifi receiver not good etc. there are few factors for this issue.

5ghz wont travel far. u can use mesh or powerline. but i recommend mesh.
