Hi..

Anyone know how big the HOLE at wall needed to pass thru the fiber cable connector from outside pole?

I wanted to make ready the necessary casing/runway for the fiber cable into my house.

optic fiber cable by TM is tiny.. probably similar size like a standard USB cable,
or for better reference - Apple's Lightning cable thickness.

for installation, i suppose the installer would pull the cables first and only terminate the end
connection with the termination point/patch (not sure what it's called)

user posted image

my take is - assuming that you're doing in-wall casing/runway for your LAN cables,
the size of the runway/casing should be able to fit fiber cable too.

however, bear in mind that fiber cables might easily break (it's not metal wiring)
thus, avoid super tight turning angles.

those who have done in-wall runway might be able to advise you better.
*
thanks for the information. thumbup.gif
actually wanted to run the casing at preferred 'spot', so the installer just run thru my casing.
it will be 3 walls need to go thru.. i will prepared the wall hole for the cable to run thru.. and its all in straight line wink.gif

I am looking for something which allows apps (or software) to be installed on the box and honestly the app selection comes with Unifi Tv box is, eh, lackluster.
Actually I just want to install Youtube on the box so can watch 4k youtube film on tv.

EDIT: Come to think of it, has anyone tried to install Productivity software (a.k.a Microsoft Office and other similar software) on Android box and use it for work?
Preferably USB port.
*
No problem using usb combo wireless mouse keyboard on Android box.
Even on hp also can use.. haha

hello..currently I'm using unifi 100mbps RM129. I have white STB which i buy myself outside. is there any way for me to use hypptv (not playtv@unifi) on STB?
*
maybe u can try call them if they able to assist.
they need to unbind the previous mac associated with the stb.
u need ur hypptv user/pass to login.

btw, the white stb does it have sound delay if using 'external' speaker (tv hdmi, mini jack RCA to external speaker). hmm.gif

the previous silver stb is ok using external speaker.

yeah i wanted to do that, but their CS told me my place not supported so i cannot sub to that package. I''m staying in an old condo, copper cable, so max they can give me is 30mb speed, I don't even get the free booster like everyone else had

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Aug 9 2019, 08:50 AM)
Nego with them to get 30Mbps unlimited plus HyppTV Ultimate for a good price. Go to TMPoint and nego.
*
yeah.. try with nego with them.. mine also old apartment, since cant get any higher than 30mbps, they give 30mbps unlimited + ultimate tv.

btw, the ultimate tv seems getting lesser channel.. seems tm not continue subscribing some of the premium channels.. hmm.gif

they gave you with new contract or no need contract? just a switch in their system or did they change new modem and stb for u? mine is still the old dinosaur, i see everyone else having those mini sized stb like the android tvbox, dunno whether they will change for me or not  confused.gif

ultimate tv need to sub separately right?
*
not sure new contract or not.. but in my unifi on9 account, the start date refresh to new date.. i dont mind the contract coz will be using unifi anyway.. rolleyes.gif

i requested new devices. they give new modem+router+wifi (ZTE) and new stb. last time i also used the dinosaur stb (1st model)

ultimate comes with the package. as they cant give 100mbps on vdsl/copper.

btw, i walk in to cyberjaya tm point.

i just relocate my unifi from vdsl to fiber.
still using my old vdsl package (RYE2017/30mbps+ultimate)

original modem+router+wifi (ZTE ZXHN H267A)

now relocate, TM just give Huawei BTU ONU. link to previous ZTE ZXHN H267A as gateway router.

can i flash the ZTE ZXHN H267A with new firmware? hmm.gif
as the ZTE ZXHN H267A cannot set DNS in default TM provided firmware.

Wait, they are supposed to give you a new set of router. hmm.gif

The ZTE WiFi performance is kinda crap but at least it is stable.
*
Nope. They used back the vdsl zte.
After they installed at hall near tv onu+router, i relocated it under my stair. Roughly center of house.
Now the black fiber drop cable gulung² like no tomorrow... 😂

2.4ghz ok. 5ghz kinda low signal inside rooms.

If I were you, I would get a good router myself, rather than wait for them to give you a basic router. You can’t diy cut the fiber. It is very fragile, and you will need to know how to do it properly. It can theoretically be done without special tools, but I would NOT recommend it.
*
QUOTE(blacktubi @ Aug 24 2019, 12:19 PM)
You will need a splicing tool and kinda hard to make it right without training.
*
Ok thanx.
Maybe i can call the installer tech to help cut the fiber.. pay abit..

Btw, i checked unifi portal, and i see there new plan package entitled 300mbps turbo upgrade. But the ecpected date upgrade was aug - dis 20018. That was 1 year ago..

Is im still entitled for turbo?

Hi, can I ask, do you mean you change from VDSL to fiber, at same place? My house currently still on VDSL, high rise building. Used to be unifi lite, but this year Time, Maxis also can be installed here, so they have fiber. I want to change from VDSL to fiber. How to do that? Currently on unifi advance 30mbps.
*
sorry if u misunderstand, i relocate to terrace house (ftth) from hi rise (vdsl).
maybe ur house already got fiber, or can pull fiber.. unsure.gif

Go for TIME. Honestly, if TIME is available, go for TIME.

Just got my unifi installation. I was surprised they pulled the cable directly from the pole to the modem. I thought the cable is supposed to be terminated at the wall at least.

Anyway, I did a search on the fibre wall switch (FWS) and get mixed responses. Some says TM don't provide FWS anymore while some say they have it. So are the installer shortchanging us?
*
i did ask about this, my installer said, all new fiber installation direct use fiber drop cable from pole to modem.
the old type installation with the FWS seems getting some problem after some times.. getting higher 'noise' signal quality. unsure.gif

QUOTE(Mazda9 @ Sep 10 2019, 05:14 PM)
Ever since TM changed my btu to Nokia  4 months ago, I was constantly experiencing network speed degradation issue where by download speed was in the range of 500-650mbps and upload maximum 85mbps.

Used internal and backdoor escalation method to TM management and they finally came today to change my BTU to this latest model back to HUAWEI which was received by TM less than a month ago on trial and my speed is back rocking again 🙌

My current speed after BTU change to TM latest model which was just  launch a month ago .
[attachmentid=10313077]

Latest BTU (HUAWEI)
[attachmentid=10313078]
In summary:- Nokia btu can be a problem for network speed degradation issue for users having Unifi package of 500mbps speed and above and Huawei was and always is the best!!! 😁

got my 300mbps turbo upgrade (after relocate).. from previous 30mb RYE package (vdsl) thumbup.gif
tm give new router DLink 842 C2.
yesterday night 8pm TM came

however, the speed seems not consistent.. sometimes can reach 300mbps.. but most of the time 80-100mb (test on night time). doh.gif
upload seems better hovering 30-50mbps
1gb lan to pc.

haven't test yet on day time.

You need to be on 5GHz, and preferably a better router if you want consistent 5GHz coverage.
*
the test run on 1gb lan to PC. when TM come the test can reach 300mbps (evening), but night time i test it surely drop less than 100mbps doh.gif

as for wifi, i understand the limitation.. even my phone only can support max ~150mbps sweat.gif
