Haha... I will try that. But the images of naked jap men sitting on the small stool bathing and another few relaxing in the pool still haunts me.  sweat.gif
One of the cons of Japan is the premium you have to pay for space and accommodation. During my 1st visit to Tokyo, I was quite surprised to see men in suites appearing from Manga cafes early in the morning. Then only I learned that actually a lot of Japs  stay in these Manga cafes as it is apparently cheaper to rent a space there compared to renting a room in the city. You have a your own personal space, some have small tatami to get some shut eyes, you have internet connection, drinking water, charging points, toilets and also vending machines just in case you get hungry. So yeah....its pretty good. Maybe I should try one day to stay a night at one of these manga cafes.
*
Then... don't let your imagination run wild innocent.gif it's just taking a bath, so be natural about it hahaha.

One reason is cheaper for them to stay in Manga Cafe, and another reason is due to all these nightly drinking parties (nomikai) with customers or superiors/ colleagues. They often drink till late and it's no surprise they could have missed their last train, with cab being far too expensive if distance is quite substantial.

2 of my friends stayed over a night in PC Cafe as they arrived close to midnight via AA flight biggrin.gif when you're tired, straight KO. But I was told there's a limited time to use the shower eg. only 15min or so.

Just saying, it would be much easier if it was a female onsen. Female and female is easier to digest compared to men with men.  sweat.gif  Have you tried staying a night at capsule hotels? I always wonder how it would feel to stay in one.
Lol. For HK, I would strongly recommend Penta Hotels Kowloon.  thumbup.gif Their rooms are much bigger, beds are large and more comfy than the usual rooms you find around town in HK. Quite newly built, it is about 10 mins walk to the nearest subway. Their stop is  2 stops from Wong Tai Sin Station. Though located in an industrial area, but the rooms makes up for the location. Price is around Rm300-400 per room for non peak seasons.
*
Its the same hahahaha the difference is "state of mind" 🤭 one of my friend was too shy and decided not to go in. Wherelse another friend and me, we both didnt care.

Capsule Hotel nope. Dont think i'm keen to try, feels a little claustrophobic. In Midnight Diner, one of the character (an old lady) stayed in a capsule hotel for 1 night and as she lied down, she said, "This feels like lying in a coffin." Would personally opt for a dorm vs capsule.

OIC. Maybe I should try this polo bun.

HKIA to Haneda is about 4 hours actually. And yes, HK ppl are crazy about Japan. Even my office cleaning lady/driver goes to Japan for holiday often. I have a few colleague here who goes at least 4-5 times a year and they know much more than me!
*
I second Kam Wah. The polo pau is really to die for!

I would be quite certain the female side of any onsen wont be as occupied compared to the male side. Japanesse and mainlander men have a real liking towards bathing naked together in small bathroom.  tongue.gif
Regarding the capsule hotel, I think a much better and cheaper option would be the manga cafes. At least you have your own "room"/partition to yourself and your luggage.

You are a fan of Kam Wah's polo bau or what the hongkies call Polo Yau Bau means Polo Oily Bau which tastes really good but it can certainly pile on the kgs on you.  tongue.gif  laugh.gif
*
Have no access to the male onsen cool2.gif guess I'll never know.
But generally so far, I've never had to share the onsen. Each time I use it, am pretty much on my own/ our own. Thus I guess pretty lucky so far.

Given an option, I'd prefer to sleep on a proper bed hmm.gif although yes, privacy from Cafe is much better. Pros and cons, depending on your personal preference hahaha. Usually luggage you'll have to place them in a locker, since the space is small.

Oh gosh yas the polo pau was so unexpectedly good I had to get another one for take-away after dining. Agree it's very oily and high in calorie, so max is only 2!! As travelers, we do walk a lot so take that fuel/ energy food in advance heh.

For me, no.
1. It's summer, and I don't like hot places for vacation.
2. Everything will be crowded gila babi 😂
*
and #3. Expensive and scarce eg accommodation

Hi.. i am travelling to tokyo.. reaching at 1030pm and departing 12am from tokyo to kl.. just wandering on how to spend from the checkout time till evening as check out time to 12am is quite a gap...

Apprecite advices and experiences.. thanks in advance
*
I assume check out time is at 12 noon. You can leave your luggage in the Hotel concierge or a locker in the train station - whichever is more convenient.

It's Haneda right? Although not much, there's still airport shopping can be done. And to be safe, better arrive earlier to avoid long queues. Work backwards to see how much time you have, and that will determine where you can go.

Flight : 12am
Arrive @ airport: 9pm (or earlier, if you intend to do some shopping)
Departure from city centre to airport: 8pm
Dinner: 6.30 or 7pm

So this means you have about 6-7 hours before flight. What do you want to do? Last minute shopping? Sight seeing? Visit temple? Not sure what's your itinerary. If you share your itinerary, then we'll know what's not inside and able to recommend better biggrin.gif

Hi guys, I'm looking for cheap one-night stay accommodation in Japan, what are the choices out there to search for, apart from Airbnb? Thanks in advance...
*
There's a Japan topic, please post/ ask here instead of opening new thread.

Your question is too generic. You'll need to provide more details:
- Budget (how cheap is your cheap? everyone have different benchmark)
- Number of pax
- Family/ friends etc

With budget of up to RM300 per night, you can just stay in a Hotel at downtown area. You can get a decent basic hotel for RM200+. Just check Booking.com or Agoda for options.

I find it weird that some hotels have single bed room which they only provide a small single bed.  laugh.gif
*
Wait, how is that weird? laugh.gif it's what the guest paid for, no? Most of the time it should come with basic amenities as well - coz even the hostels do.

Lol.. their Double room is already err... cramped. I don't know how to describe the single rooms.  :lol
*
It's definitely not for you to bring in an extra person brows.gif

Jokes aside, yes it's cramped. Land is expensive thus per sq ft cost is high. It's even common for travelers to open their bag on the bed as it can be *that* narrow. By Asian standard we find the beds small, imagine Europeans/ Westerners...

Their double bed is definitely not big  dry.gif . If you were to sleep with your partner, both of you better not move or you will definitely 'touch' the other person.  laugh.gif
*
Thus i actually prefer futon. Probably no frame, which is why futon felt more spacious, although byright the size should be pretty much the same. Errr it's hard to not move at all sweat.gif ...then again, most of the time travelling is so tiring (all the walking) that one is often knocked out upon hitting the bed.

The thin mattress is not very everybody though.  sweat.gif And it could get pretty cold sleeping on the futons during winter.  biggrin.gif
*
It's actually not that thin. And winter futon is the best - the blanket is super thick and comfortable. I've also slept in ones where there's hot water/ heating (system?) placed in blanket. The most comfortable ever. Where in the world were you sleeping in winter? biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Fyonne @ Jun 28 2019, 12:28 PM)
i think the room came with toilet/bathroom tend to be cramp as hell while those with shared bath/toilet u have plenty of room to put ur luggage n still able move around.
*
True that, coz they need to make way for bathroom. There's that convenience of having a toilet/ bathroom attached but trade-off will be the space. I'd choose attached ones over sharing toilet - as those usually ala Hostel style which freaks me out when I need to go in the middle of the night. Probably a little too much horror movie but i just can't help over imagining things shocking.gif

Hi guys, thinking of using this when going to Tokyo. Anyone used this before and is it recommended to do so?  Thanks in advance

If you have cash, the rate of your cash is usually better than Big Pay. However if you plan to swipe CC instead, most of the time Big Pay's rate is better than bank's CC. You'll just need to top up cash into your BigPay card like Debit Card.

QUOTE(swn525 @ Jul 3 2019, 09:25 AM)
credit card for oversea used may charge additional 2~3%
but this one same as daily forex rate
*
Something like that, but it follows the MasterCard rate of when BigPay settles payment with merchant, not when you swipe it. For example, you purchase item A today with BP card. What you get is an estimated charges. If BigPay settles the payment with the merchant next day, the actual amount is charged tomorrow based on the next day's exchange rate.

Rates very high recently. 38.56 today. It was low at 37.2 a month ago.  sad.gif
*
I'd say it's the weakening of Malaysian currency recently. Not just Japanese yen, it's also high for the other rates. If your trip isn't due yet, wait it out biggrin.gif optionally buy a bit and keep to average out (any) potential losses.

Stupid of me to hesitate when it was 37.2. I guess the RM is always meant to be like that.
*
It's the human psychology heh. When it's RM37.2 you'd think maybe it'll drop further or remain around the same rate so you can change it a little later. But before you know it, all of a sudden it fluctuates. It's not absolute when it comes to currency, and I'd bumped into similar situation too. As long as you're not changing a lot, the loss should be quite minimal imo hmm.gif

hahaha I see, will only be using IC card...since many sifu said all IC card can use along then yeah i will use pasmo while im in osaka next week! all IC card can be use for all train line right? except those limited express that need purchase additional ticket right?
*
Careful. In Osaka they don't use PASMO but a different IC card. Their system is with ICOCA card. And yes IC card can be used for train, subway, bus, purchase in konbini (convenience store) etc.

Not sure what "limited express" you're referring to? In any time you're not sure if the IC card can be used, just ask the Station Master. Inform the staff where you're going and ask if you can use the IC card.

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Jul 3 2019, 02:42 PM)
the rate today is still not as high as 3 years ago when i go to tokyo, that time is 39.XX
change like 7k back when it was 37.XX
and i've just changed 3k last saturday(4 days ago) @ 38.39

my advice would be to change before october
from october, yen won't drop anymore
it's not MYR's problem
yen went up due to the trade war, it's only recently dropped abit
korean won on the other hand has been dropping....now the rate is 3.5X
which i'm planning to change soon for my feb trip
*
Sad to say few other countries' rate is higher than usual a including Baht, Dong (as complained by a colleague) etc. Our currency isn't strong at the moment as well.

True on the yen, so better change within the next 1-2 months when rate is decent. Same like Fyonne, I've experienced 39+ and 40 before too cry.gif

IC card has been nationalized
the only thing what IC u use is your origin
when u use PASMO or suica, they would know u came from tokyo
same as kitaca for hokkaido

https://insideosaka.com/prepaid-cards-icoca-suica-and-pasmo/
*
Really? So PASMO can be utilized in Kansai region as well? Previously you'll need to use the local region's assigned card hmm.gif this is good, then it's convenient and all you need is just 1 card.

Practically speaking, I've only been to Tokyo numerous times sweat.gif When I was in Gifu, we used the seishun 18 kippu and bought bus tickets. Don't recall using my PASMO back in Nagoya - or maybe i did. Couldn't recall though hmmmm. When I went to Ibaraki (Yamagata, Mito etc) it was a trip with customers so it's with agency and thus everything was catered for.

I get what you mean. Took a peek at the Hotel rates/ availability in Booking.com and it's impossible sweat.gif

But don't give up hope. There could be people who couldn't make it in the end and have to let go of their booking. Alternatively wait for something like this: https://www.homestay.com/japan/tokyo i think they're holding onto the July 2020 availability since it's 1 year away. You can also try contacting the host to see when will they open up the booking.
