I'm going on a short trip to Tokyo at the end of the month. Where's the cheapest place to get tokyo banana & shiroi koibito? Or should I just buy at the airport?
*
Like Chaud said, price is pretty standard across stores. In fact, it's hard for you to find Shiroi Koibito in local stores in Tokyo. At Tokyo Banana has kiosks or shops in some malls, but Shiroi Koibito can be a challenge to find. Just get them at the airport where it's guaranteed to have biggrin.gif allocate an hour or two for airport shopping. There's plenty to see and shop, especially at Narita.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping can find some in Family Marts / Lawson  biggrin.gif  I guess will be much easier buying them at the airport then.

Anyway how confusing is the Tokyo Metro system actually? I've been to some cities with extensive metro lines in Europe but from what I've read, nothing compares to how complicated the railway system in Tokyo is.  bangwall.gif
*
I've occasionally seen Tokyo Banana in Sunkus (another convenience store) when it was still around. But it's not easy find as I'll say save time and just grab them at airport laugh.gif you can also grab other rare snacks at airport.

Another nice place to buy souvenirs is actually in a shop inside Diver City, Odaiba (provided you're going to Odaiba) it's known as "za, daiba" ザ、台場.
You can find Tokyo Banana and other rare gifts/ souvenirs especially if you're into animation: https://signalrosso.com/odaiba-giftshop-entry

Personally, follow the lines based on google map is fine by me. Biggest issue is looking for the correct exits and/or changing lines at big station.

I manage to get lost in Tokyo station twice. Google map doesnt help when you are underground
*
I think many can relate on the exit and transfer. You're not alone when it comes to Tokyo Station; it's really huge so very easy to get lost. When in need, best way out is to ask someone especially the staffs from the shop icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(L.Torreira @ Aug 14 2019, 03:41 PM)
thank you. is it good itin by klook? is it good to explore shinjuku too? any others to visit in Kawaguchi go?
*
You have 12 days?? Give me 3 weeks and it'll still never be enough for Tokyo! With 12 days you can have a looser itinerary without cramming them. Take your time to stroll around. Do day trip(s) or 2D 1N trip to Enoshima, Kamakura. Yes Mt Fuji you can plan for either Hakone or Kawaguchiko (Fuji 5 Lakes) - whereby 2D 1N will be more relaxing.

If you'd like to save up, plan your own itinerary and transport for Mt Fuji smile.gif package tours are usually pricier and comes with less freedom in terms of time but you do get the convenience of transportation. Depends on what you're looking for.

I think this Japan tour will be my once and last time. Should I explore Kansai too? What is the minimum budget? I will extend my budget.
*
Hahahahaha don't judge too soon. Whether it'll be your first and last - decide after you've been there biggrin.gif

Japan is really huge. From Tokyo you can actually do a lot of Day trips or short 2D 1N trip to nearby attractions such as Nikko, Fuji 5 Lakes etc. To visit Kansai or not, it's a subjective matter. Budget is hard to tell you how much laugh.gif you have the option of flight, shinkansen, bus/ coach (expect long ride) etc to travel on. Do some basic research if you really want to cover both Tokyo and Osaka.

Everyone's expectation/preference is different when it comes to spending.
I personally won't choose this Diamond Hotel, but that's just me. So choose whichever you are happy with and enjoy it.
laugh.gif The world is big, there are other places to visit. tongue.gif
After visiting Japan for the first time in 4 years ago, I really thought I won't be returning to Japan in these 10 years as I have a list of places to travel to. I love going to new places, countries. However, this time being asked to join, I gladly accepted because we hardly meet each other.
*
Wahhhhhh you're going Japan ohmy.gif jelly nya. Syok horiday this year.

Kansai and Kyushu for 15 days. 7 days in Kyushu.
Autumn is nice and equally expensive too.  laugh.gif

Betol sad.gif probably share more when we meet cheers.gif
Woahhh 2 weeks in Kansai and Kyushu, that's awesome! If you have 4 people, driving around Fukuoka/ Kyushu will be convenient to travel around - as shared by a fellow friend who went. It's alright, worth it if it's autumn; you'll get to see really beautiful red/ golden leaves biggrin.gif imo autumn is better than Spring, but that's me.

but moi friend said autumn is like in Malaysia where the leaves fall. many dust and wind no good for health. true meh?
*
Your RM3k is only covering transport and pass? Or including accommodation? Per pax rm3k or rm3k for 2 pax?

If you cannot take Autumn then Spring is worse for sensitive people as there are pollens flying all around places with trees.

Not sure what aspect of "no good for health" your friend is referring to... but millions of people stays in countries with 4 seasons and they're still alive and well hahahaha. The only issue with cold season is that it tends to get a bit dry so you'll need more moisturiser, probably a mask to protect your face from the wind etc.

Yes totally overdue 🤭 its been a little quiet, suppose everyone is busy. Time to round up the others i guess hehh.

Ahhhh then driving is out of the question. No worries, public transport in less urban area usually tend to be less hectic.

Hi, sorry if this was asked before.
Lets say I have a printable discount coupon but I would like to use it to buy tickets for 4 persons (so that each person gets a discount), how do I say it in Japanese?

Like how do I say;
"I would like to buy 4 tickets, please. Can I use this coupon for 4 persons each?"

Or do I need to present 4 discount coupons when I purchase the 4 tickets?

Thanks for any kind reply. Arigatou.
*
What sort of discount coupon are you referring to? I'm sure there's T&C written on the coupon on the redemption - whether 1 coupon per ticket or whether 1 coupon is applicable for all/ total tickets.

"chi-ketto yottsu onegaishimasu." (4 ticket please)
"kono ku-pon wa yon-nin wo tsukatte mo-ii desu ka?" (can this coupon be used for 4 people?)

Beware that when you start speaking Japanese from the get-go, they'll assume you're fluent and then you'll be bombarded with Japanese all the way. While you may be able to ask question in Japanese, you may not understand the reply.

I'll suggest starting the conversation or speaking in English instead, and the Japanese phrase is backup in case they could not understand what you try to say in English.

Use google translator should be the safest.  tongue.gif
Nolar... You definitely don't need HeatTech in autumm. Just a light jacket in your bagpack would be enough. If you are in the city, it wouldn't be that cold compared to the outskirts.
*
Works when you wanna ask question, may not work if the other party reply and you wish to know what he/ she says. Unless the other party has Google translate installed in phone as well tongue.gif

QUOTE(kingofrave89 @ Sep 5 2019, 11:52 AM)
Yeah, just planning to bring the sweater from universal traveller. it says can tahan till 10-15'c. Should be sufficient i guess. Thanks for the advice!  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Edit: btw, im going to Hiroshima, Kobe, Nara, Nikko - Tochigi area. So this consider quite outskirt right?
*
I'd say everyone's cold tolerance is very subjective. It tends to rain during autumn and the temp gets crazy cold during that time or afterwards. Or night time. So if you already have heat tech, just bring along. Judge for yourself then decide whether you'll want to wear the heat tec or not biggrin.gif

They're outskirt, correct, but still major tourist attraction. Nikko is pretty quiet except when you're at the shrine.

Since you're going Nikko, I highly, highly recommend dinner at Hippari Dako lust.gif the tsukune (chicken meatball) and yakitori is sooo good. One of the best I've ever had. Also, Nikko is famous for yuba (beancurd) so you'll see yuba dishes everywhere.

Thanks very much for the feedback! I see, so better to start of with English and use limited Japanese if needed, right? If I go with 2nd option, should I tell them my Japanese is very limited?

For the coupon its this ( https://www.nagasaki-ropeway.jp/facility/coupon.php ) Unfortunately its all in Japanese, so I wanted to be sure if this discount can be applied for all persons or do my party have to buy their individual ticket to get this discount. Hahaha.
*
You're not flying anytime soon right. Can run through the coupon and check for you when I have time.

You're right. Maybe I'll just bring the Heattec, just in case. My tolerance to cold is quite high, but wind is another story.

Ooo, nice! Will try that dishes! Hope can find the halal version. Lol. Thanks for the recommendation!  notworthy.gif
*
Thats right, not going to take up much (if any) space at all biggrin.gif better be ready. For autumn i usually go about with a heat tech inside, and a hoodie on the outside. It was sufficient. Winter is different story haha.

Ahhhhhh i'm not sure if its Halal. Btw for Nikko i saw this for

Opting for the NEX round trip tix for approx 4000 yen so that last day dont have to kelam kabut transferring between train stations + waiting. Approx 2000 yen each way if purchase the round trip ticket

Thanks y'all. Cheers
*
Definitely do-able. Your itinerary is not too packed, just nice. So long you don't overstay in 1 area, you're able to make it/ follow through especially when you're travelling alone. It's easier to adjust your timing and you don't have to wait up for anyone.

1. Yes
2. Not sure but I would advice visiting Ginza on a weekend to enjoy the "Pedestrian's Heaven"; road closure of the main road - Chuo Dori of Ginza from 12 noon onwards: https://blog.gaijinpot.com/tokyos-pedestrians-paradise/
3. Adjust accordingly. you'll need to prioritize on what is "must do" or "must see" then place the secondary item as alternative.
4. Yes. And plan your route to maximize the 3-Days Metro Subway pass.

Tokyo today is 9 degrees in the morning with strong wind. Freezing.

Visited ueno Park, sensoji temple, meiji Jingu, takeshita Street, meiji Jingu gaien, nezu shrine, shibuya hachiko, caretta shiodome, sumida River, Tokyo tower. Frankly speaking Tokyo metro subway is easier than Singapore mrt line. I don't find it hard to find the places rather than I was in Singapore.

Nice spot: ueno Park(afternoon) , meiji Jingu gaien (night) , sumida River (night).
*
Thanks for the photos. Been missing Tokyo a lot /sniffs the photos is evoking a lot of memories. Would love to visit Tokyo somehow next year or 2021 - even if only for a short trip.

Basically the subway line is easy to use/ access once you've gotten around on how it works wink.gif

Just remember try not to carry big backpacks around if possible. But if you do, i'll suggest to carry it in front instead of behind when you're in a crowded/ packed train.

Don't just let it burn, contact AA. Ask them about postponement or refund due to the epidemic. Tell them that you're not flying because worried about the COVID-19.

One of the travel agent told me they've been really busy asking flight companies like MAS, AA for postponement of group tours. I'm not very sure what's the success rate of individuals but try asking them first.

I have lose hope of AA giving options of full refund for travellers cancelling their trip due to concern of COVID19 outbreak.

I have lodge complaint through MAVCOM, through AA twitter and to AA customer service centre in KLIA2. No positive response so far. Chance of getting full refund are slim at the moment. Only travel ban to Japan by Malaysia government would make AA refund our ticket.

My flight is on 17th March. My strategy right now is to wait until 2-3 days before the date before I cancel my ticket while hoping for government to impose travel ban before that. Next step will apply refund for my JR Pass.

One question though, can we cancel our ticket or just let it burn by not checking in to the flight?

Thanks.
*
If refund is difficult, what about request to postpone the trip? Such as push it down to say, October or November? Do they entertain the request? I'd say it's better than to let the ticket burn hmm.gif

Dude, change our flight date is on our expense, even with coviid19 outbreak like this. Last time i check, if i reschedule my flight to november, the fare is even expensive than my current ticket - its like i bought a new, more expensive one and burnt my current ticket as well. That's why i want to cancel.

AA is really being irresponsible, I guess they will learn their lesson if all their flights are full with infected people.
If it is out of current refund policy, then make a new one AA. When yoir corporate and legal team write the policy, there was no COVID19 yet. Now there is a new contagious virus leading to global epidemic, u have to react, write a new policy, be a responsible airlines and help stop the spread whenever u can!

But no they even up their promotion - amid the epidemic and bribery scandal.
*
So meaning you've asked for postponement due to the Covid19 and they replied you its on your own expense? Then at least you tried all ways to talk to them.

What i meant was everyone talks about cancelling or burning the ticket - how about talking to AA about postponement of your flight/ trip. Find a later date where the cost is roughly about the same; can be in Sept/ Oct/ Nov etc whichever month where it's a later flight date. Ask them to allow the postponement at no cost (if possible).

If all options are exhausted with the same result, then there's no choice and just hope AA would change their mind and be more responsible.

Hi @XXX. Kindly be informed refund is not an available option at the moment. Alternatively, we advise you to make flight change (date or time) up to 48 hours before departure time subject to "change fee + fare different" (per person, per sector). If you wish to reschedule please share detail below :

- booking number
- preferred route
- preferred date
- preferred time

so we can check the fee and seat availability first for you. Thank you and hearing from you soon -Uli

Yes... consider checking new flight details and see whether worth postponing or not. If not, then no choice and just let it burn.
