Seaking some opinion. My coming tokyo trip on dec 31 - jan 7. Planning to do a 2d 1n side trip to mt fuji since my sis said want to see fujisan. Maybe going there by bus. 1st i plan go lake kawaguchiko since this area can give good view of fujisan. Then now my sis tiba tiba said hakone also nice. Told me Can go there as well or not... Haiz...

Hi. I'll be going to Japan for the first time this October and pretty much have my itinerary sorted out. Just few headaches which I need to seek help from the sifus here.

Day 1: Arrival at Haneda @ 10:30pm. was planning to catch 0:20 bus to Kyoto but 2nd thought, I'm afraid can't make it as I dunno the time taken at the airport. If flight delay, worse. So best plan should be staying at the capsule.

Day 2: Take shinkansen hikari with JR pass to Kyoto

Day 3-5: Touring around Kyoto & Osaka (edit: buy 1 or 2 day passes)

Day 6: From Kyoto, go to Kawaguchiko + shop at Gotemba outlet for half day

Day 7: Day tour at Kawaguchiko

Day 8: Hakone day trip - back to Tokyo by night (last day of 7 days JR pass)

Day 9: Visit Disneysea

Day 10-12: Touring around Tokyo areas e.g. Asakusa, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ginza, Tsukiji market, Ikebukuro, Shibuya etc. will buy 1 day pass each day

Day 13: Last round of touring during day time and return to KL at night

Headache #2: What transport option to take (cost + time efficient way) from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko? Seems not many people sharing how to travel from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko.

I do see people recommend to take shikansen hikari from Kyoto-Mishima-Gotemba-Kawaguchiko: around 5 hours total; need to pay 1510 yen for the bus from Gotemba to Kawaguchiko - can somebody advise if this is the best way?

It has been more than 4 years since I dropped by this thread, I'm here again because I will have a trip to Japan this November. This round will be two weeks spread across Kansai and Kyushu. I don't have plan yet where to go in Kyushu as I have not been there but at least I know I will travel to Kyushu from Osaka and going back to Kyoto from Kyushu. By looking at this situation, I feel it's wiser for me to use Shinkansen to travel Kansai-Kyushu-Kansai? In that case, Nationwide JR Pass will be good right?

I will be in Kyushu for 7 days and I read from online blogs, to travel within Kyushu can depend on JR lines? In that case, I will take up 7 days pass and in Kansai, I will just probably buy something like Kansai Travel Pass which I have bought before.

Sorry, I haven't been researching on this Japan trip because I was busy earlier with my Europe trip. So pardon me. So far I have booked accommodations in Kansai but not Kyushu yet and I will be in Japan during peak - Autumn in November. Good luck to us.

We try to be as flexible as possible this time, hence we will have two weeks this round to cover Kansai and Northern Kyushu. Hopefully no rushing as both of us just want to spend time together and walking slowly to enjoy the view. We are not living in the same country, one year only meet once or twice.

Anyway, if I want to book Shinkansen rides with JR Pass, I can only do it in the JR centre right? Looks like gotta spend some time there when we are in Osaka. Prefer to reserve seats and hope to get seats in Hello Kitty Shinkansen. Is there any way I can book Shinkansen rides online? Last time when I travelled from Tokyo to Osaka, I just bought the ticket separately in Shinjuku as I didn't buy any JR Pass that time.

I almost finalising my itinerary for Osaka Kyoto trip and few queries that needed to be confirm.

1. Does JR Kansai Wide Area Pass covers the  Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen line from Osaka - Himeji - Shin-Kobe - Kyoto?

2. Is there luggage storage facilities for medium sized check in luggage in Himeji & Kobe? and how much?

3. Regarding the tour ticket purchase from Himeji Station to Mount Shosha; can i use the the same ticket for bus ride to Himeji Castle? Based online information. the tickets for Himeji Castle is limited a day. My plan is to purchase tour ticker for Mount Shosha and for Himeji Castle, but i would like to do Mount Shosha first then only Himeji Castle.

4. Is 1 day enough for Universal Studio Japan?

2. is it worthy to skip kansai area and explore Tokyo only for 12 days? which area you recommend to explore Tokyo area?

4. any free entrance area you recommend? I rike sightseeing like to watch leaves fall in the park etc.

Any recommended ryokan in Kyushu? I also don't know how to allocate budget, let's say 15k to 30k? Hmm. 2 pax a bit too extreme right for the budget? Then one pax.. I tried to Google and I'm so lost.

Need our own private space. Either 2D1N or 3D2N (again depending on the budget lol).

OK, got one so-called Ryokan in Yufu, surprisingly quite cheap for only RM 600 per night for two pax. Probably due to the not so strategic location but it provides pick up from JR Yufuin. So, it is fine with us.

Next up, hotel in Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Beppu. Instead of just three hotels, now become four.

If you guys have any suggestion, please feel free to share. I haven't researched much on Kyushu yet, thought of booking places to stay first and plot our visitation points later.

why do you keep going to kansai? not boring? I regret not Book to osaka instead. look like kansai is more lively than Tokyo. is JR pass the shortest 7 days? look at klook the price already 1k. 1/3 of my budget. actually if combine with my waifu our budget are 6k. for 12 days do you recommend me to explore only Tokyo or extend to kansai? if got JR pass all are free or must pay another transport fees to the attraction places?

mind share why u say kansai is very fun? eg which part and what activity? Wanna learn some knowledge currently planning trip to kansai, some said osaka 2 days enough some said need 3 days. I have 10 days to spend

Anyway how confusing is the Tokyo Metro system actually? I've been to some cities with extensive metro lines in Europe but from what I've read, nothing compares to how complicated the railway system in Tokyo is. 

How much have you spent in Japan, what have you covered and how long are you in Japan for the first time? Hope I am not addicted to it. Japan the best meh?
