Looks around those hostel and agents around the backpacker street, it's easy to get. But if you 1 person, most likely u have to join the tour which using bus, if lucky might still get to join those using MPV. Those using bus usually only go to 1-2 destination in a day only, a bit slow lo. smile.gif

Hi all, Anyone been to Jogyakarta?

Mind to share the travel info? Accommodations? Attraction places? Food? Shopping?
I'm planning to go there mid of Nov 09 for a week I guess.
I need to collect some info before I purchase the tickets..lol

Thank you.

jogja is very much like a lost town, you can bargain for cheap accomodation there .. just get a trishaw and ask them to take you arround for rumah tumpangan .. can get a decent room for only rm40 that sleeps 2 tongue.gif

there's a temple like that of Borobudur only slightly smaller. the main exhibit is closed for restoration some time back, not sure if it's fully open now. smile.gif

Hi, I had visited Jogja last year.
Hotel, just ask and the friendly taxi driver take us to find a cheap hotel along Jalan Maliboro. My hotel was near the supermarket there and some streets shop. Its quite happening at night.
We choose hotel near the supermarket because there is a sign of KFC there.wink.gif
Since the hotel also got tourist guide, so we hire him for a one day trip. The charge can't remember but cheaper that what the taxi driver charged.
First night, went to watch Ramayana Ballet-about old Java. Lot of foreign tourist.
Day 1 - 1. Went to catch a sunrise at Candi Borobudur..wake up around 4.30 a.m. There are several small candi there but the Borobudur is the biggest.
2. Went to Candi Prambanan - small but beautiful candi. It was affected by previous earthquake, so they put up a fence covering the candi. So nobody can go near the candi.
3. Went to some gold shoppe. Nothing to bought.
4. Went to Keraton-just like Istana Negara in Malaysia.
5. Went to some old ruin palace - a swimming pool for the sultan's concubine. Beware of slippery floor.
Last check out from the hotel and went to Train Station- next journey, Bandung.

Hardly find any car rent for self-drive, most of the car there come with Supi (driver).
THe road is safe and ok, i also want to drive myself, but only found transport with driver, it's cheap anyway.
