any recommendation for hotels at yogya?

Stay at Lokman Setia Kawan! Nearby to Maliboro road. very nice decorated and nice staff. Consider as budget hostel, but trust me, it's good. I been there last year september, the superior room is around 200k rupiah/night. Cheaper room available.

thanks for the info bro..... i'm going there this end of June.

No prob... at Yogyakarta, dun dress like a tourist, else everyone will come to greet you, say that they also been to malaysia, and they would like to introduce you to some nice batik or painting gallery..... biggrin.gif

Also those becak in the Kraton will always try to give u cheap rate but bring u to Workshop Kulit Wayang and Batik Gallery... that's annoying part of Yogyakarta, but generally Jogja still worth to be visitted.

If you plan for Borobudur, i suggest go for sunrise, although more expensive (cost more around RM 100), but i find it worth.

- place to stay (any backpacker street?), recommended budget guesthouse? where normally ppl stay if they visit there?
- wat else to do besides site seeing? eg shopping..n wat else?
- nightlife (pubs? bars?)? booze allow? wats the price like? recommended place to chill at night? live band / music?
- food.. recommended place for good indonesian food? price range?

I have been there last year, spent 2 days only, i went during raya (october), so i not sure bout may/june, guess should be alrite.
-for the 3 places, if u really hurry, make it 1 go:
3AM : depart from jogja to Borobudur for sunrise
8am : Depart from Borobudur to Gunung Merapi,
10am : Arrive Merapi, can go Pas Bebatan for 1-2hr trekking to view point.
2pm : Go to Prambanan

If you have 3-4ppl, that could be easily done by tour. For solo, difficult lo. Cannot do all in 1-day, just split it. You can take public buses to Prambanan, it's just located between town and airport.
There is a lot tour package around.

-For backpacker/hostel, i recommend the Lokman Setia Kawan lo, that area all backapacker lodges, forgot name of street oredi.
There are a few lorong along the Jalan Maliboro and Jalan Sastrowijayan.

-IF want to do more, go Daeng Plateau for hot spring and relax.

-I hardly see night life there le, very iman city, but may be there are some hidden there.

thx bro!!

Added on June 28, 2009, 1:25 amhi...probably a stupid question, but anyway... money changer at jogja. can they change RM to Indonesia rupiah? i know the rate would be not as good, jus that its in case what i brought is not enough
*
They do not have a website.... they contact can be found in lonely planet, mine now borrowed by fren, so cant help at meantime.

Ya, there is a lot of money changers along Maliboro, they accept MYR or other major currency. I prefer to activate the atm card PLUS service (oversea transaction) and then just withdraw money from ATM machine, it's not really expensive to do so.

Is it easy to backpack there? Cos if their transport is poor then hard to get around. Then I would opt for tour if going there
*
It's easier to hook on local tour there. Anyway you could easily join in the tour group in Jogja.

I'm going there end of nov too..
Isit worth staying in Manohara hotel and join the sunrise tour? Or i can get a cheaper hotel nearby and still get the sunrise tour
taking my time to read this topic. biggrin.gif
*
If you plan for sunrise trip at Borobudur, it's worth to stay at Manohara Hotel. You can get cheaper hotel at town or nearby area, but then you have to pay more for the sunrise trip, as significant discount is given to hotel guest.
Last time i stayed in town and pay extra for sunrise tour. I think the sunrise visit at Borobudur is really amazing. If I were go again, I will opt to stay at Manohara hotel.

how much did you pay for the sunrise tour?
manohara quoted me idr 625,000 for one night.. thats around rm200 shocking.gif
*
If i am not wrong, i paid IDR 250,000 for sunrise trip entry ticket only. Last time I hired a transport, so the transport cost is excluded from the 250k.
I have to travel from town at 3am, arrived at Manohara around 4.15am and prepare for sunrise tour. Yupe, that's price for Manohara, but as it would save the hastle of wake up early, i would stay there. (but if you are not keen on the sunrise, then no point staying at Manohara.)

Thanks, thinking of doing that. I'm may be going there in Nov, is it ok during that time around? 3 days there sufficient?
*
Last time i went was Oct, think Nov is ok. Hehe, i only spent 3D2N also. Think is sufficient to cover Borobudur, Prambanan and Merapi, with well planned, and need to get transport. Last time my 1st day and 3rd day only half day, so very pack, if you have 3 full days, it will be better.

is it easy to get a local tour if I only 1 person? Means I will join others in a day tour
*
Looks around those hostel and agents around the backpacker street, it's easy to get. But if you 1 person, most likely u have to join the tour which using bus, if lucky might still get to join those using MPV. Those using bus usually only go to 1-2 destination in a day only, a bit slow lo. smile.gif

Wanna ask LYN forumers who have been to Yogya ...izzit possible to SELF DRIVE ??or need to hire a driver ...it's good timing and more enjoyable trip to self drive ...but wonder if the road is safe .....I have got GPS so not too worry about the route ..  smile.gif

Hardly find any car rent for self-drive, most of the car there come with Supi (driver).
THe road is safe and ok, i also want to drive myself, but only found transport with driver, it's cheap anyway.
