I do agree with you on the matte black for the iPhone 7, but that's on aluminium and the new gen phones are glass so the paint won't chip off. Maybe the aluminium frame would be a bit more vulnerable but I've had mine (Product Red) since November last year and there's no chip off or anything thus far. Just choose the color you like the most
