Hello,

I am currently a student in my final year in the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. The on-campus accommodation's wifi has been poor during peak hours, especially between 9pm-3am.

Despite complaining to their SNS Department, which I was told is a separate vendor apart from the university's management, no action has been taken for the past 2 years. At the beginning of this year, they added extra access points which I can't comprehend why as the issue wasn't due to signal, but more towards lack of bandwidth due to high number of users. After that, they introduced a 10GB daily quota on every user.

After the implementations of these 2 "solutions", the state of the connection has yet to improve.

If I were to make a complain to MCMC, will this be under their jurisdiction? I am complaining against the ISP (IP Core) or the university? I'm not too sure as it may not be the ISP's issue, but the management of the university not willing to increase their operating costs.

If it is not under MCMC's jurisdiction, which government body will tackle this issue?

Thank you.

It is free, but I assume it should be covered by my accommodation fees? (RM750 a month on campus). And I have already suggested this with the SNS department, that I am willing to pay for my own broadband. But they refused to allow this. I have also bought a Maxis 4G Broadband but recently Maxis has been very unstable for unknown reasons.

See, the thing is I am not just complaining while doing nothing. I have been trying to find various solutions and tried them but to no avail.

It appears you have already provided the answer to your own question.
This action I believe was to limit the amount of usage per student; much like our telco monthly plan.
10GB per day isn't enough for you to study ka? Wanna torrent prawn issit?
What is agreed between the ISP and the University is P&C; MCMC won't look into this as you are essentially are complaining to the university itself. I believe the university has did their best to provide a better internet experience for you student. After all, you're there to study right? Shouldn't the internet usage be sufficient enough for your research and studies? Do understand (on the university part) that the on campus wifi provided are part of the facilities that the university provides to the student to aid their studies(much like gym equipments, study labs etc). Anything more is an added luxury.

TLDR, study la bodoh, fama fund your studies summore..... why complain like a millennial that you deserve this deserve that....

Hello, apparently all you can do is assume my situation and criticise me like the typical sour Malaysian you are. I AM complaining because it IS in fact hindering my studies and research you fucking moron. I am not asking for this because I think I am "entitled" to. This is LITERALLY for my STUDIES, which as you have mentioned, is what a university is for.

If you can't provide any suggestions nor solutions and can only criticise and justify the lack of development/improvement towards infrastructures, then I suggest you rethink what you have done in your life retard.

lol you are funny, you get angry when ppl answer you that way? Can you look at urself first? You are an Unversity undergraduate and yet you cannot identify who's responsibility in your case? 4th year student? I am really worried...haha

A lof of readers like me just pass this topic because it sounds a little silly...but since you get mad, i jump in to help you. bruce.gif

You want to complain to a government body which is tasked to oversee isp, telco and multimedia, on an internal issue between you and your university? If internet really affects your studies, it means this university just provide a poor facility to you. What you can do is just complain to university. Nothing else you can do.

Let me suggest you, get mobile internet like digi or get out of campus accommodation and subscribe to unifi .

He did provide good insight for his last paragraph. But his tldr wasn't necessary. If he can make such remarks, I can defend my stance however I want. Am I suppose to back off and suck it up and apologize for his FALSE assumptions?

I cannot identify whose**** responsibility, hence I have come to ask for more information and have received it. If I don't know something, I search for answers, and if I am unable to come across any, I ask.

About time you let the next generation take over your jobs old man if you can't keep up with the changes and demands.

Please read my replies regarding your suggestion. I have already subscribed to Maxis 4G broadband for my extra research. But for the past month it is very unstable and I need another alternative.

Then direct your complains to Maxis then. You've paid for their service and you are in position to demand from Maxis. Why bother dragging your uni into this?

Thanks for the constructive criticism and reply. Will do. Thank you.

you also need to check is the router issue or ISP issue.

it could be you are far from the router wifi range, or the wifi has strong interference.

go download wifi analyzer to check first.

A lot of testings have already been done. They have sent professional network technicians to my room and have set up several equipments too. But that was a year ago and no improvements made till this date. Their only reply was "still under discussions". Hence, why I am running out of patience. It's already been 2 years.

You have already made your complaint to the university; and yet the outcome of it wasn't up to your expectation. So why complain to MCMC? What has they go to do with this?

Seeing that you're a "4th year student", have you approached and informed your lecturer in charge that the university internet issue has been hindering your research progress?

Isn't this what you have your student association president for? Why not complain to him/her. After all, they are getting paid a monthly sum anyway; might as well get them to work for it.

If all else fails... just get a separate internet plan from Maxis anyway. Seeing that you are able to afford a 4 year study in nottingham, you could've afford an additional internet plan anyway (instead of sharing the free uni's wifi network and complain.)

Seriously... you're a 4th year student already and you're already triggered by poor internet facility and words from a stranger on an online forum... I wonder how you'd perform in the real world. Again, stop complaining, you have already knew the solutions to your problem, you just wanna show your uni who's boss only.

haha well said. But i suppose he should know what you've mentioned here...

1.University channels, be it university management, or associations..
2. Maxis fails, get digi, digi fails get others
3. Move out of hostel, get own isp.
4. Dump in more money....since i believe you can afford. I can't support my children to that university, frankly speaking...

You mention even Maxis 4G fail in your room. To my surprise to know that because Maxis 4G is famous for stable.

I have an assumption that is your room location causing the problem.

Something in your room that causing all the wireless channel not working properly.

Have you spoke to other students that stay in the same hostel? are they having the same problem?

No point complaining here or to MCMC. Either your university has very restrictive bandwidth policy or didn't opt for high speed internet line. I also noticed your university is not part of the MYREN network.
