PCIE 2.0 X4 is 20GT/s or 2.5 Gigabytes per second. Still significantly faster than SATA. It depends on brand and model.

I found ADATA SX8200 SSD cheapest and fastest in it class which just around rm300. still slightly faster and cheaper than KC1000

Why not direct go for below PCIe SSD.. much much better performance.

The price. Samsung 970 Pro has better price/performance.

Hi, I am wondering the same.

I have system per below ;
- Mobo : Asus Rampage IV Gene
- CPU : i7-3970X

I was planning to plant in NVME SSD on the PCI slot.
Wonder if it works or better stay conventional by using sata port.

Better stay SATA until you are 100% certain the NVMe does work for the old system.
If not you will be wasting your money... those PCIe NVMe SSD ain't cheap yooo...

Some NVMe SSD quite affordable now like ADATA and OEM Toshiba that tone of seller are sell theirs in garage sales. Price still around SATA SSD range.

Thanks for the advice.
Look forward too for the PCIe to NVMe conversion result.
If works with stock BIOS, it should be a good thing then.

Great, please update the result and work step required.
I'm rebuilding my RIG, but not from ground 0.
Still attached with X79 technology. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Reading through other forums and site, not advice use as primary / bootable.

If there no option ssem then have to move forward to newer tech.

Thanks in advance notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

if ure mobo manufactorer didnt implement the drivers in your bios for booting u might have to mod it .

Mentioned before...just as drive before upgrade the whole base system. Maybe AM4. so for now, wanna use adapter just for data drive instead bootable drive

Received the adapter. It's working but just run on PCIe Gen2 x4 only instead Gen3 as secondary PCIe slot. My GPU also run at x2 only as secondary slot is populated

so far, quite impressive even cheap NVMe biggrin.gif

If you are a gamer, I think using secondary slot for NVMe SSD is not wise plan as will drop your GPU performance
