After few days playing around with my gf's pinky 1520, I think it's a great lappy with high value for money thumbup.gif

However, I have some complaint on the screen. First, it is dim. Second, the viewing angle is too narrow. I wonder if it is the TrueLife's problem hmm.gif
*
What do you mean too narrow? I can see wide to the left and right. Not at the top though, bottom quite reasonable. And I'm not opt for Truelife. Maybe can confirm with Truelife users.

QUOTE(WildChai @ Jul 22 2007, 09:34 PM)
Yeah, my major "unhappiness" comes from the screen only.....yours is dim? mine is extremely bright!!
i think in the BIOS you could set it a notch higher.

My problem is the bleeding from the bottom....kinda annoying. it's ok inside games.
*
level 3 when operating without battery is really dim for me, level 8 (highest) when on ac power is just nice. Will it really save power if using the lower dim setting?

i'm quite interested to know all of your laptop battery performance. if could please state your laptop model, battery size and usage.

for me, 1420 with 6 cell battery. just be able to last 3 hours normal usage or maybe more. don't exactly take note on that. but on idle can last 6 hours. is it normal?

i do feel that this model is well build. i don't have the tickling sound i guess. not for normal use. only a lill bit of sound to let i know that it is alive when processing large file. not very noticeable though.

Getting my lappy on 1st Aug ...

Planning to install ubuntu but according to ubuntuforum, there is an issue setting up beryl/compiz for new Inter X3100 driver. Nvidia GT/GS should have no problem

I have a 1520 with 9-cell batt....which usually lasts me 4+ hours with bright settings and little gaming.

I usually set to High Performance power option when plugged in.

Being a heavy gamer or not does not really depend on the GPU. Some people play games all day even though they can only afford a x3100 or something because that's the best for them. IMHO, I'd advise you to cancel your deal or somehow, return it when you get it. You should've skimped on the complete cover, and do 3 years limited and I don't know what processor you've changed to but as long is it's core 2 duo it's fine. Heck, my friend configured a 1520 with 8600M GT and Rm200 to spare from his 4k budget

Talking bout vostro, I was playing around with the configuration at dell's and the vostro 1500 vs inspiron 1520 is about the same price. (cheaper actually by a few ringgit haha) plus with vostro, it seems you have more options.

is vostro ok?
I heard its the same with previous models...They oni change the dimension.
The price is ok....but when u change the specs....it becomes too expensive.
For example,the 2GB ram.
U add 1GB for RM4**.
Thats abit too much.
And the processors are all c2d5*** and so on.
If u wana change to better one,it will cost more than the market price.
I guess its not value for money afterall.

Here's what I got:

Dell Inspiron 1520:

Dell Vostro 1500

Yes, vostro is missing some items like the webcam and the little fancy stuff which could be bought from other companies. As for the OS, i choosed the cheapest for vostro cause personally I won't be using the OS that comes together. I wish they would offer 512mb ram haha, that way can save more money.

Now, if only there are 17" vostros available.
