QUOTE(Noname95 @ Jan 5 2021, 04:53 PM) Hi, i just got Time Internet 500mbps installed at my place. They provide a HG8145V5 router. The wired connection is up to stated speed, but wireless performance is only half of what stated. Anyone can advise on this ? Hi Sifus over here, would like you guys to recommend me a router. Been contacting TIME internet to help me with this, told them my place bedroom areas don't have good lines, wireless speed is bad. They told me it's normal to get 250mbps-350mbps on 5Ghz network, suggested me to change channel for 2.4Ghz (which not helping much, just near to 100mbps), end up they just ask me to get new router & extender. Lol Below attached is speedtest done on installer laptop. My laptop has Wi-Fi 6 AX201, hope new router can utilize this & cover most of the house too, if not I got a TP-Link RE200 standby Below attached is the 2 in 1 router place. It's at the kitchen inside a SoHo box. Here attached is my unit floor plan. Red circle is where Optical Network Terminal at, green one is suppose where new router at (previously UniFi router is at here). Thank you very much !! |

QUOTE(Candy12 @ Jan 8 2021, 07:08 PM) Do you work in your bedroom most of the time or spent most of your WFH hours at your living hall? Dont have that much money and time to hack all my walls and do this now If you can afford it, wire up all your room with CAT6/E ethernet wall outlets for future proofing. You can further expand your network in future by using additional switches in each individual room or buy a wall mounted mini APs/mesh units via wired connections turning it on only when needed. For me I don't like to have a powerful WiFi AP right beside my head where I sleep for health reasons. I intentionally TURN off my 2.4G WiFi and only enable 5G for strategic reasons just "ENOUGH" to cover my workstation area which is part of my living hall. You might want to know why I intentionally restrict my WiFi coverage area just enough to cover where I work. Firstly I minimize the chances of my neighbors interfering using jammers, listening and stealing my WiFi. If you just walk away from the living hall at my house, immediately you would lose the 5G WiFi signals right away. Also I would know that if there's an intrusion in my network, I can ALMOST be certain it's my neighbor which is stealing it because it's so weak the signal it makes it not even worth STEALING. Second, it's for health reasons. I don't want a powerful high frequency transmitter beside my head while I sleep. My bedrooms and TV rack in my living hall all have wired outlets to serve my needs. Most of the times I would be doing my work & spending my times at the living room & got a TV box. But, would be ideal if i just could cover other bedrooms with WiFi signals since other family members spend their most their time in there. I do agree on the health reasons too. |

QUOTE(francistcc @ Jan 8 2021, 08:09 PM) Mesh is a good option instead of router ? I'm quite new to mesh, not really sure about it. If possible i don't want to sacrifice speed since that is what I pay and switch from UniFi. I'm okay as long as I can get almost full speed at living room, for bedrooms just need good WiFi coverage |

QUOTE(jjj2 @ Jan 8 2021, 10:50 PM) Hi, you may place an AP at the green marked spot if there is a network port there (there should be with this kind of design). Yeah there is a network port there. Thanks. Any recommendation ? Need able to provide almost full speed 500mbps , right now I cant get full speed with the provided 2 in 1 ONU . Should I invest more for WiFi 6 coz my laptop can support it, i do play online games most of the times and my work demand good network connection too. QUOTE(Candy12 @ Jan 8 2021, 11:26 PM) You don't need much money to run direct ethernet cables concealed in cable covers along the walls just like your electrical cables. Unfortunately, the walkway leading to bedrooms don't have any electrical sockets. Last time I was using a TP-Link Wifi Extender RE200 to extend the WiFi from bedroom 3, not that satisfy with the speed it provided, but serve it purpose la for my other family members who always stay in their room. Since you mentioned that connectivity in bedrooms are just for convenience, you don't need wiring to cover all rooms then. Stick with your original plan of relocating the router opposite the dining table as you've marked. Run just a single ethernet wire under cable covers along the wall further down the walkway leading to the bedrooms to somewhere right in the middle of all 4 rooms.Make sure you have a electrical socket nearby for convenience. Place just an AP there either wall mounted or on a small rack. Turn it on/off only when you need to access internet from your room on demand. That should be good enough to cover all 4 rooms. The AP/mesh unit works just like a wired switch except its connects to your devices wirelessly. All routing functions will still be handled by the main router which you plan to place at the hall. For your tv box, you might also want to run a cable across the wall to provide a port for your tv rack. You probably need 2X 10M of CAT6E cables for both the bedroom area AP and TV box. That should leave you with 2 more spare ports on your router for other purposes maybe a closeby workstation PC. Under RM300 should be more than enough if you can get reliable contractor or friend or DIY. Any recommendation for the router which I plan to place at beside the TV / opposite dining table ? Thank you |

QUOTE(Candy12 @ Jan 8 2021, 11:55 PM) You can consider using a PoE adapter then. It uses half of the set of wires inside your ethernet cable to supply electricity simultaneously with data through it to your wireless AP. PoE adapter ... First time hear of this .. So means Router -> PoE adapter -> AP ? The router brand I'll leave it to the sellers here to give you a suggestion. Thanks for the suggestion on AP setup & location optimization advice though. Really help alot on my plan. |

QUOTE(jjj2 @ Jan 11 2021, 09:13 AM) Hi, please perform a test with direct cable connection of your laptop to the 2-in-1 ONT first, make sure you are able to get the expected bandwidth. Hi, yes. Direct connection using network cable in my living room is able to give stable 500mbps. Then use the network cable in your living room connect it to your laptop and perform another round of test, if that gives you the same expected result, then only you go for some investment for wifi6 routers. Thanks. Thank you |

Hi, I have called TIME to enable bridge mode on the modem. How do I really check if they enable it ? Seems no difference. Trying to setup my TUF-AX3000, tried dialed to PPPOE but keep saying No Internet. They told me Port 1 is enabled for bridge, ask me to connect the router to that Port. Did that, try setup AX3000 again as router mode, typed PPPOE credential, end up showing no Internet on AX3000 GUI

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Jan 31 2021, 04:57 AM) Tried the correct PPPoE username and password? If it is both correct, did you disable the VLAN tagging? See below: Yeah, these 2 are selected as "None". 1) From the web GUI, go to Advanced Settings > LAN > IPTV tab. 2) On the Select ISP Profile field, select TIME, or if there are no TIME, just select None on both ‘Select ISP profile’ and ‘Choose IPTV STB port’, and click apply. How I did the setup was. At first screen, Click "Advanced Settings" -> Wireless router mode -> Require username & password (YES) -> PPPoE -> type username & password -> Enter WiFi information -> WiFI6 enable , Done. Below attached are the setting page. |

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Jan 31 2021, 02:22 PM) Tried that. Same no internet. Errr, the UI in their provided Huawei 2in 1 router got any difference after they switch it to bridge mode ? After they called me to tell me that their side enabled it, my WiFi name got reset , other than that, looks no difference than previous. |

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Jan 31 2021, 03:54 PM) No difference after bridge mode. Are you sure you have the right PPPoE username and password though? It could be a simple issue of wrong PPPoE username / password. Yeah. Double confirmed with them on PPPoE credential. I also out of idea .... But if i change the WAN Connection Type from PPPoE to Automatic IP, it can connect though ... But that is not the correct way right ? It seems the dial up was done on the modem instead of my router |

QUOTE(patricktoh @ Jan 31 2021, 09:27 PM) It's OK as long both are in different network segment. Here bro, the screenshot.NAT enabled at AX3000 router. AX3000 Internet WAN connection type = PPPoE No VLAN tagging. Can screenshot section for IPTV? - Select IPS Profile = NONE - Choose IPTV STB Port = NONE But I'm guessing Time hasn't update my modem to bridge mode. That's why it unable to dial PPPoE on router but Automatic IP work This post has been edited by Noname95: Feb 1 2021, 04:56 AM |

QUOTE(JuzJoe @ Feb 1 2021, 02:00 AM) hi, I'm looking into upgrading/improving my home network including changing my router/ISP. I'm currently subscribed to unifi 500mbps with unifi TV which I never have the time to watch so I'm considering changing ISP. Can any1 share their experience with Time ISP? is 1GBPs available in every part of klang valley? Currently on 500mbps for a month. Their own provided 2in1 modem/ router sucks, so you will have to fork out some money to get new better one, scroll through last 10 pages of this forum and you will know.If you getting 1GB package, i guess they provide better router though, need ask others opinion on this. Cost & speed are fine, customer service is not good, live chat no ppl reply & email takes from 30minutes - 12 hours too. Need to call, no need wait but if , in my case not good experience too, I tried to ask them to enable bridge mode on my modem but they keep saying maybe will decline my request if no good reason given & will not provide any additional support since I bought my own router, not buying from their side. I don't have much time to call them on phone so been dealing through email, will feel want vomit blood, seems like their own people also don't have knowledge on their own product, maybe need ask them to escalate my issue to higher level who with more knowledge. QUOTE(patricktoh @ Feb 1 2021, 11:29 AM) If you connect notebook (disable wifi) to the 2-in-1 Modem LAN-3 and could get Internet access then the Modem is not configured as bridge mode yet. Yeah, I have internet connection over on that port. IP address 192.168.100.4 (preferred) Check the notebook IP address after connect to Modem. Open dos prompt type> ipconfig /all See what's under section - Ethernet adapter Ethernet: Means how ? Bridge mode not enabled ? This post has been edited by Noname95: Feb 1 2021, 05:14 PM |

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Feb 1 2021, 09:14 PM) Would it be possible for you to try and login and see whether there's a page somewhere to change it to bridge mode? I did login. But there is nothing much i can do in there. I think they patch it with their version of firmware, what I can do & see inside is very limited. There's no option for me to change anythingThis post has been edited by Noname95: Feb 1 2021, 09:30 PM |
