Hi,

Does Hotlink has an eSIM option? Switching to the iPhone XS and planning to use Hotlink eSIM as secondary number while in Malaysia.

TQ

Anybody have any experience with eSim? Maxis offered eSim for the Huawei Watch 2.
https://www.maxis.com.my/en/personal/plans/...plans/esim.html

Samsung Galaxy Watch (Sept 2018) comes in the LTE version which carries the eSim card embedded. Am keen to try this, if it arrives. lols

I think you need to wait Maxis or whatever telco to announce the option. Plus the dual sim function will only be available on a later update https://support.apple.com/en-my/HT209044

Digi
Digi eSIM is available to all customers on Digi Postpaid, Digi Prepaid, & Digi Broadband plans.

U Mobile
Prepaid and Postpaid customers are eligible for U Mobile eSIM. Customers can walk into the nearest U Mobile Stores and request for an eSIM. The supported U Mobile eSIM devices are as below (updated list):

Yoodo, Tune Talk & XOX
While major Telcos require their customers to walk in to a service centre to get an eSIM, MNVOs such as Tune Talk and XOX and Yoodo (a digital prepaid service from Celcom Axiata) process the eSIM replacement request online.
Yoodo, Tune Talk & XOX all operates on the Celcom 4G/3G/2G network.

To find out more, can refer to the article below, quite comprehensive.

No unfortunately. But with rumour rife that iPhone 15 (year 2024) may no longer offer physical sim slot, it's just a matter of time that Maxis extends eSIM service to Hotlink Prepaid since they can't afford to lose their Hotlink Prepaid users using iPhone.

Still the same, eSIM is only for postpaid.

Celcom also doesn't offer eSIM for prepaid.

Strange how Digi, Umobile able to offer eSIM for prepaids but biggest telco couldn't.

looks like hotlink postpaid can support esim

QUOTE

Who is eligible to activate eSIM?
Maxis eSIM is available for all Maxis mobile postpaid customers including Hotlink Postpaid Flex and Corporate plans. It is available for new line registrations and existing customers.

Where can I get Maxis eSIM?
Maxis eSIM is available at all Maxis Centres, Maxis Exclusive Partners and Maxis Online Store (for new device purchase only).

Will I be tied to a contract if I activate eSIM?
The eSIM is like any other SIM cards hence it is not tied to any contracts. However if you signed up on a new device package with Maxis, you will be tied to a contract.

Do I have to sign up to any specific rateplan in order to use eSIM?

There is no specific rateplan for eSIM. You can use eSIM with any current plans of Maxis Postpaid Plan, Hotlink Postpaid and Corporate Plans.

I have friends who use eSIM and basically it has no difference when compared to conventional SIM

Really think Hotlink should allow esim for prepaid. It’s cost saving for them too, no? ie: can reduce amount of physical sim cards to manufacture + lower manpower needed at physical branches.

I use Yoodo too. Ok I don’t work/go to Singapore so no idea about their esim situation there.

I really like Yoodo’s esim. Took literally 5 minutes to setup (bought small data plan and random num to play around with esim). Just don’t see a future with Yoodo yet because they are in a state of limbo due to CelcomDigi merger.

Yeah yoodo is what I enjoy now. Becos celcom network is good in whole bolehland in terms of coverage. Esim is really seamless to setup. I just want to want to keep this pantas plan on my main bolehland no.

But I need to use random no for yoodo on my iPhone.

Not sure what will happen to yoodo eventually. Just enjoy while it still exists. It is really good for light user. 20GB is more than enough for me per month unless I am on travelling to other state. Just paying rm20 per mo is nice.

Yeah I'm thinking of porting out my main hotlink to Yoodo but it won't be soon. Or may never happen if Yoodo's status is uncertain.

But back to Hotlink. Still annoying why they cannot offer esim. I mean it'll cost them less CAPEX to do it. Ughhh.

Yes, you are right. I just dropped by to their centre in sunway few days ago.
In order to use esim in watch which share the same number in my phone, only maxis postpaid 98 and onwards is supported.

on iPhone, there is a convert to eSIM option in the iPhone menu. I am on Hotlink prepaid and i manage to get till the conversion page (redirected to Maxis webpage) where they ask me for IC/Passport Number and email address used to registered.

After a few tries, i got the IC/Passport Number correct but the email address always shows as invalid.

@Hotlink would you advise if i can get the registered email address from you?

This is because eSIM is not available for prepaid user.
Thus the process will never success if you are trying to do so.

Hope Maxis is listening that those prepaid user have been waiting for so many years

Hi, may I get your confirmation that if he is changing his HOTLINK POSTPAID into eSIM?
This is because accrding to Maxis, only Maxis & Hotlink Postpaid can change to eSIM.

I went to Maxis Center @ Low Yat Plaza and both of their staff told me there is no eSIM for Hotlink Prepaid
I went when 3 weeks ago, 6 Jan 2024

Let's me try if I can walk in to another Maxis Center for this coming weekend
*
You went for sim replacement or you want to buy a Hotlink Prepaid with esim? I think you cannot buy Hotlink Prepaid with esim. Previously I went for sim replacement. Will confirm again if any different.

Who is eligible to activate eSIM?
Maxis eSIM is available for all Maxis mobile postpaid customers including Hotlink Postpaid and Corporate plans. It is available for new line registrations and existing customers.

Is it a Hotlink "Postpaid" that got the esim ?

SIM replacement. I was asking if I can convert my existing physical SIM to eSIM for my Hotlink Prepaid.
No possible.
Even the staff can only suggest me to go for Hotlink Postpaid for eSIM.

When you get a chance in the future and know you will pass by the Maxis Center, do the eSIM conversion on your iPhone. In case anything happens, you can walk in immediately to get a SIM replacement.

I converted my Hotlink… but it is Postpaid SIM card when I went to the shopping mall last time during weekend. I did it while walking from the car park to the mall with personal hotspot from another device. It was a smooth experience, but took some minutes to complete the process. Be patient yah.

I also remember when I swapped my iPhone from the 14 Pro Max to the 15 Pro Max. I just did the eSIM transfer without needing to get a new esim QR code from the Maxis Center.

By the way, nowadays, the staff at Maxis Centers really lack training on their company’s products and services. They only focus on hard-selling devices with contracts, postpaid plans, and fiber plans. For customer service, it seems they prefer you don't come in, as there's no commission involved. They even dare to tell me cannot port-in to Prepaid plan. Only Postpaid available. Not the dealer, is the Maxis Center.

I am thinking to go to NU Sental like Aerobreaker did to straight get an eSIM.

ic. then not bad then. same price as celcomdigi (yellow)..

but one thing good about celcomdigi (yellow) is that the validity follows the plan...

meaning if account validity expired today... i still have credit balance inside the account says.. rm20... i top up rm5 (make my account valdity extending by 5 days, but if i also buy the monthly plan rm25..., my validity of the acount will become 30 days...

so meaning comparing to hotlink, to keep the account valid for 30 days, u must top up rm30 monthly no matter how, but the plan is rm25 only, so u will have rm5 remaining in the account every month...and this rm5 will continue to roll with next month rm5... and so on...

but celcomdigi (yellow), also the same, rm5 remaining if i top up rm30 and buy rm25 plan... but once the accumulated hit rm25 or account balance is rm20 and i top up rm5 only, i can buy rm25 plan to get 30 days vadility... i just discovered this recently. find it useful to stop wastage...

if top up rm100 can last for 120 days then not bad... tongue.gif

but seems like now hotlink top up also works differently already...

https://www.hotlink.com.my/en/faq/products/...-pantas/top-up/

How does the top up validity work?
Each top up of RM10 and above will keep your account/SIM active for 30 days from the day you top up.

For example, if you choose to up RM20, your account/SIM will remain active for the next 30 days.

Whereas, each top up of RM5 will keep your account/SIM active for 5 days.

1. The website was probably updated a few days ago to remove the mention of Hotlink Prepaid.

2. The staff also showed her iPad that contains internal directive / instruction and it showed Hotlink Prepaid not eligible.

So yeah, basically it was a new-ish directive sent to them. Some posts here from a few days / weeks ago were able to do it so it seemed like it’s a recent change. Ughh.

It's the reason why I switch to Celcomdigi kuning plan.

Honestly the coverage of both is similar, some places Celcomdigi better, some places are the other way around. I bought each of the SIM to test around for 1-2 weeks before deciding.

The good thing with kuning is the 40 GB is for both 4G/5G, and they are zero rating YouTube, Netflix and a few other services if you access it on 5G. It works for YouTube Music too for long drives. I think it's the better value for me overall

i went to one digi store to convert physical sim to esim, and i was told by the staff that digi now follows celcom also do not offer esim to prepaid, i must sign up postpaid only can get esim..

then i went to another digi store.. i managed to get the esim immediately...

iPad can't call or send/receive SMS though. But even if use QR code, then it will still need the activate the eSim via SMC TAC right?

So far, the Android Hotlink app has not been updated yet. So, don't have the option to convert Hotlink Postpaid to e-sim with the app.

The esim package I got from Maxis Seremban is Maxis esim package, it's green. Should be red and hotlink brand.. but anyway, it still worked.

When I asked Maxis here near to home and work, they all said, "for that, have to go Seremban." So I just went to Seremban. Seremban also got a few, had to go to the main centre (Jln Tun Dr. Ismail, Seremban City Square). Since the main centre requires time and travel for me, I texted them first and in the text also the reply was "can."

By right they should. Only thing you need to be firm if they ask you to change to postpaid in order to use ESIM.
The FAQ says that prepaid ESIM for existing users can be done at centre.

Base on the last experienced when port in, this isn't surprise, they're loosing customer here.

Bugger I'm gonna complain to MCMC for the misleading information between counter and website.

Their customer service only want sales KPI. Someone already reported successful convert to ESIM for prepaid in Maxis KLCC. I think more ppl need to report to MCMC for Maxis to take action.

If i signed up a new eSIM from the app last month and i changing to new phone next month, can i do the eSIM transfer from old to new phone myself or do i need to go to Maxis store?

If maxis store, is it any maxis store or must find those main outlets?

For postpaid you can transfer eSIM using the app.
Just click Myhotlink>eSIM Manager and follow the process. New phone must connect to wifi.

Can eSIM really be out of stock? There’s no physical item to run out of, it’s all virtual, so I’m a bit confused.

i personally prefer hotlink which i used hotlink for many years but on physical sim card...

but after covid, hotlink has really poor connections at the city i am at... no matter at fixed location but on the go (driving)... a lot of blind spots that do not have connection at all, play youtube videos also the videos will stuck halfway...

then after digi offers esim to prepaid,i started to use it, but now hotlink has esim i really want to try one more time..

my current plan for digi is expiring in 2 days time... i will stop the auto renewal of it and sign up new esim for hotlink (new no) and use for one month and see if it is ok but i request to port over from digi to hotlink for my main no... tongue.gif

Oh JB, too far for me. I'm in KL.
Success stories I've heard so far is via Maxis Sunway, but I don't frequent there often and waste of resources if just go there purely for eSIM change.

I am currently using hotlink pantas Sabah and celcomdigi yellow

Here my comparison for 6months usage

1. Hotlink Pantas Sabah
Plan Cost: RM18 per month
Benefits:Unlimited calls and 60GB data (hotspot included)
Total Cost: RM18 x 6 = RM108

2. CelcomDigi Yellow
Plan Cost: RM25 for the first month, RM10/month for the next 5 months
Benefits:Unlimited calls,40GB data and 30GB hotspot
Total Cost: RM25 + (RM10 x 5) = RM75

Hotlink eSIM reusable? That seems to be suggestion in Hotlink's FAQ - How do I restore my eSIM profile. In the same FAQs, another paragraph says no reuse.

Anyone tested?

I believe base on the FAQ, you can reuse the eSIM activation kit which you get from Maxis Centre. If you do convert using app then you do not have the activation kit.

They will email that particular branch and assign a specialist to handle your case as per your convenience 🤣

Primary line always always use physical SIM - easy-in-easy -out in case phone kaput, change phone etc. etc.

eSIM very convenient for instant sign-ups that need no physical store visit (eg special 3rd party roaming plans, Yoodo-type, TuneTalk-type, Hotlink Prepaid-New Line only -type).

You don't have to physically swap out SIM cards when switching carriers.
You can store multiple carrier profiles on an eSIM. Just turn on/off the respective network that you want to use.
If your device is lost or stolen, it prevents someone from simply swapping out the SIM.

You’re right, there are pros and cons. I still prefer a physical SIM.

Pros:

1.Can store multiple SIM profiles without needing to swap SIM cards.
2.Prevents SIM theft and misuse, though you can still set a PIN code.

Cons:

1.Can’t switch SIM cards instantly.
2.Not all phones support eSIM.
3.Retrieving a new eSIM isn’t always seamless yet

Esim is safer as it cant be stolen/removed as easy as physical one …

If your phone stolen, the person cant pop the sim out immediately (standard sop for people who steal or “accidentally” pick up with intention to keep it … everytime the phone power up will connect to network so making you easier to find your phone last location …

More popular among iPhone users that only have single sim slot … but if you are regular travellers / business trips… esim is convenient as it can store multiple esim profiles - i have 4 not sure what is the max, switching between lines are just click instead of busy finding pin to pop out sim card and replacing and eventually losing the sim …

Hahaha you're right again using the pin to pop out the sim card is very hassle. But I need to make sure my Fon support esim or not. Many thanks for the explanation

my friend who is on hotlink postpaid now, submitted request at maxis centre yesterday to convert to hotlink prepaid.

the staff there said will take around 3 to 5 working days.

and asked the staff if need to change sim card, my friend is on hotlink postpaid (esim), the staff said no need to change. He can continue to use the same esim even after conversion. tongue.gif

Have not use the Maxis store green card. I wonder how secure it is if can be scan multiple time?
It is better they move the eSIM request through app just like other telcos.
