QUOTE(lurkingaround @ Dec 27 2019, 10:45 PM) . Ok. Thanks for the sharing.Yes, but video-streaming is limited to SD/480p = 1Mbps and dl speed will be throttled to 0.5Mbps if monthly data consumed exceeded 50GB(or 100GB.?). Downloading apps and updates is at the allocated 3Mbps. Since UMobile can use only the higher 2400MHz/Band 7 4G LTE frequency, users need to keep the mobile device facing outside into the open air = not blocked by walls. For some, RM25 per month for 'unlimited' data for the phone is worth it. Postpaid GX50 phone plan also gives unlimited voice calls. . So many restrictions and speed is so slow. I can confirm that it is not something for me. |

QUOTE(joshhd @ Dec 31 2019, 06:43 PM) Yes. Video streaming includes Netflix, iflix, Astro Go, HBO Go, YouTube and more. If 1 to 1.5Mbps only, even YouTube video only play at 360p to 480p at most. For U Mobile, as long you see there's a Video-Onz included in any data plans, then any video streaming activities will be throttled to 1 to 1.5Mbps, in exchange with either unlimited streaming data or dedicated quota for video streaming. (That's how U Mobile attract customers đ) Prepaid GX30, unlimited data but speed cap of not more than 3Mbps. You'll only high speed possible when you tether hotspot, which it has dedicated quota for hotspot, which is 3GB. |

QUOTE(lurkingaround @ Dec 31 2019, 09:18 PM) . Totally not the case, nowadays all phone are having high resolution. 480p looks totally pixelised on screen.Because 480p is more than good enough for a 6" phone, which is what GX30/50 is for. 1080p is only needed for large screen TV up to 55" and computer monitors of about 21". If you want 1080p and 4k/2160p video-streaming, there are hother more expensive options available, eg Digi 150 Infinite. If it is 720p and above it is still acceptable. |

yeah. 480p no matter on what kind of display nowadays on mobile phone feel blurry and pixelised. Set aside individual lower acceptance level.
It is the same like watching 20 years ago standard definition drama on HD or full-HD TV. If it is on 4K TV will be even worse for many more times. |

QUOTE(lurkingaround @ Jan 1 2020, 03:01 PM) . I think ur understanding is not correct at all. . https://lifehacker.com/do-i-need-a-1080p-di...hone-1450793273 - 2013 Seems, the problem bottle-neck in video-rendering on high-end phones lies in their not-needed or wasteful high resolution displays of more than 1080p/UHD which over-tax the batteries and processors. . Those articles u post are talking about whether higher resolution is needed on a phone. unless u have a phone that can change resolution like Samsung flagship phone. Else it does not save battery. For example, ur phone is 1080p, even u run a 1080p or 480p video the resolution of the phone still stays at 1080p. The 480p will just be âupscaledâ to fix the screen. So it does not have the battery saving as what u claimed. |

QUOTE(nickchk89 @ Jan 3 2020, 06:03 PM) u dont have to quote anyone, I'm using this plan, and nope, there are no data limit on both 3g or 4g, there are no data indicator at beginning (except other unifi mobile plan) I think u mean 3000kbps = 3Mbps? I dun think 300kbps can stream even 480p.that non band 5 phone 3g data limit thing is way back from webe era, nothing new, just to remind u that must use webe certified smartphone and nope, my YouTube can stream up to 720p, the speed is capped around 300kbps(actual dl speed) for utube only, twitch, astro on go (tested) are not cap for my device (OnePlus 7 Pro) ![]() If 4Mbps will be sweet spot, 720p (auto) no issue and again 1080p (manual) is ok also. The starter pack seems to be able to just buy from the online store.
Maybe will buy one to try and do the MNP to enjoy 6 months rebates. My existing data plan number is not an important number also since I use it for pure data purpose. Can just MNP anytime. If the GX30 is not satisfactory can just dispose or MNP out again. ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by westlife: Jan 5 2020, 09:57 PM |

For those starter pack selling on Shopee is it safe to buy? Given that they are at lower price sometimes.

Anyone MNP to u mobile GX30 and get the rm25 monthly (rm5 rebate) for 6 months?
On the website, there are two options. One to buy new starter pack with new number. One to is switch. If I click âswitch to uâ, it said step 1: buy and register ur starter pack. step 2: enter your personal details including the u mobile new number and SIM serial number. My question is how to perform the step 1 for the switch? how to I get a starter pack and how do I register a starter pack? Do I need to buy from online store or buy from the u mobile store? Then I contacted the u mobile CS, their reply is nothing better. The reply I got is that if I buy the starter pack and registered I cannot get the discount. Like that how I am going to do the step 1 man? If dun do the step 1, I cannot do step 2 becos it requires new u mobile prepaid number and SIM serial number? Where do I get these info man? It is totally ambiguous instructions from both website and even the human. Wtf. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(dgboy @ Jan 11 2020, 11:51 PM) buy the sim pack at 7-11, Tesco, etc and register on the spot at the shop. I see. Ok. Thanks a lot. I remember cold storage also got sell the u mobile sim pack. maybe will get from there also.then you apply online to mnp your existing number should still qualify for the gx30 debate, though note that the rebates will likely have limited validity like 7 days the CS agent misunderstood This post has been edited by westlife: Jan 12 2020, 12:56 AM |

QUOTE(judehow @ Jan 12 2020, 01:08 PM) Yeah indeed. Rm30 per month for mobile usage is really a great savings as recurring expenses.I am going to try buy the starter pack and MNP online today. Hope the network is not as bad as what I had used before. Currently using yes konfem 4G. So far so good no complaint. Just becos it is data only plan I am using so no harm to try others. QUOTE(yongtjunkit @ Jan 12 2020, 04:35 PM) I directly port in at Umobile store(not dealer), they'll handle it for you( they gave me a blank sim card - can't use till successful port out) I see. This promo must do MNP online to get. So even at u mobile store can only buy the starter pack and fill up the form to MNP to get the rebate. The CS appears to have misunderstood your inquiry Port in around 1-2 years before gx30 exist so I didn't get any discount I am not using the number for my main line. Purely for data plan. So just MNP to get discount only. This post has been edited by westlife: Jan 12 2020, 04:42 PM |
