Before subscribing, people usually test a celco's 4G network signal with its prepaid Starter Pack(= costs about RM10 only), not with Maxis HUP35 and UMobile GX38 and Celcom XUP35(= cost RM35 each) and the coming Digi DUP35. For the latter, people usually look at reviews or forum reports.

Good to you, got direct connection to SG.
Those unlimited is variable, might not suit for everyone, especially abusers. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I never use the WiFi at SB as I prefer to use my own data plan.

Stood in front of the cashier for almost 5 minutes before I could login to the SB app.

Iโ€™m sure umobile works wonderfully for many people but for my use case, maybe itโ€™s not for me.
*
In Penang, tried few Telcos none was giving best services even digi/Maxis not so good compared to other states, perhaps lacking fiberised BTS and high rise buildings weaken signals reception.

If azhar75 is wrong, then yesterday UMobile did not throttle him to 0.05Mbps at >80GB of data used monthly = UMobile is still not enforcing its monthly FUP limit of 100GB for GX plans since Dec 2019.
.
*
I got read U notice that they will throttle abuser in certain time 0.5Mbps during night time, perhaps that's why he can abusing next days again.

Hopefully he not get terminate by U too soon ๐Ÿ˜‚

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jun 19 2020, 03:45 PM)
Yes I totally agree. Thatโ€™s one of the reasons many choose to continue to subscribe to the very expensive Maxis service besides its more superior 4G connectivity. Because Maxis rarely has such problem despite the absence of VoWiFi. Like I mentioned many times, nobody wants to pay for expensive service given a choice.

VoWiFi helps with the poor reception issue for normal phone call and SMS, it however doesnโ€™t solve your poor data service. What is the point of having unlimited data on your mobile phone if your telco is unable to provide stable data service ? Thatโ€™s another reason why people are willing to pay more and stay with the more expensive Big 3. Because like you said, else people will start complaining.
The telco can disable the VoWiFi feature to call back to Malaysia from overseas. Early on Digi did not enable that feature overseas. The feature was silently made available about 2 years ago, reported by a fellow Forum Lowyat user that he was able to connect to WiFi Calling in Amsterdam on his Digi line. He later also reported back that he was not charged a single cent when making phone calls back to Malaysia. Since then Iโ€™ve been taking full advantage of it whenever Iโ€™m overseas.
*
Nah, I'm preferred VoIP calls via Skype is far far cheaper rates, later found out Wechat Out also clear line too.

Terminated my GX50 today, it was fun while it lasted.

Bought an Xpax SIM pack for RM10, signed up for the RM35 unlimited data plan (3mbps). All is well again, streamed youtube on my phone with the screen off while driving from south of the island (qb mall) back to the north with zero dropouts.

stopped by at starbucks tg tokong, the data connection was great.

may consider umobile again in a year.

Celcom in Penang do have high availability for outdoor 4G signals. Just speeds is slower compared to other states.

Don't need super high speeds personally. Good coverage and consistent 5mbps can fulfill my current needs. Hope xpax can upgrade from present speed cap of 3mbps to 5-6mbps at least.

I have a 500mbps fibre connection at home for big downloads anyway.

Umobile offers relatively more for the same or cheaper price, was really hoping that it was a fit for me.
*
Yup, exactly same with me.
6mbps is more suits for me, either GX or CUP is OK for me.

Had you found out why the internet was not running on U Mobile even it has 3 bars on your phone?

Without U Mobile GX plans which was launched on 2018, I believe MAXIS definitely will not increase the data quota for their postpaid users and launched their Hotlink unlimited data and call plan this month.

Same with CELCOM XPAX.

Businesspeople are not stupid to do that.

There are no perfect telco in Malaysia. It depends on the location.

Many are not jumping into U Mobile not because U Mobile is really bad in their locations. But is because they heard from those who were working in the phone shops saying that U Mobile is bad without trying it themselves.

I also one of them before 11 July 2018 because I also have many friends who worked in different phone shops in Ipoh.

But when I saw one of them started using U Mobile, including all his staffs in all branches, I was curious and wanted to try and see how U Mobile performed in my locations.
*
QUOTE(Khuan0813 @ Jun 21 2020, 09:41 AM)
For you, how many Mbps just can consider as fast internet and how many Mbps can consider as slow internet?
*
Well, back before 2013 U was really bad during moving almost dropped 2G most of time, even 3G weak Indoor and high ping.

Changed alot after late 2018, same like Digi got good indoor 4G speed but moving still dropped back 3g and speed above 3Mbps is acceptable for RM30 plan.

Actually at least don't dropped calls, lost signal, dropped 2G then considered OK already. For high availability, I'm still back Yoodo Sim in case reach overcongested places/days which U/D sure DC-ed. So, combo Dual-sim worked great for me.

For 3G, I think the celcos have downgraded it to the basic about 1Mbps from 4.7Mbps and for mostly voice-calls and SMS usage.

Is your 4G+ signal strength showing 3 bars out of 5.? If so, that may be the cause of poor upload speed.
.
*
Nop, my Yoodo refarmed B1 as LTE which gave 100ish Mbps while no problems for 3G maxed 21Mbps.

Definitely not spectrum issues. ๐Ÿ˜

Ironically, yes there was 2G users just you didn't realise it.

Some users registered Yoodo for their parents for 2000 mins unlimited calls for rm12 per months, so affordable and manageble 5 sims in same app.

According SKMM and Digi, there was at least 20-25% users didn't surfing mobile Internet could be old folks could be ah ne/Bangla because 1000mins calls and only RM5 IDD calls.
They just topup after credits out.

My speedtest.net/Ookla on UMobile 3G/H+ network.
.
Seems likely only Celcom has not downgraded its 3G network because the 3G-less TM Unifi Mobile and MVNOs have to ride-share on Celcom's 3G/4G network.
.
*
Lfmao, you Speedtest with wifi tethering and still blaming downgraded ๐Ÿ˜
And yet, you picked Yes as test server instead Umobile.

FYI, Umobile using their own 3G Infra plus roaming with Maxis.

New speedtest.net/Ookla on UMobile 3G/H+ network after changing to UMobile server = not much change in the result.

You are mistaken or misunderstanding the icon, I am not using hotspot/tethering. Even if using hotspot/tethering, the speedtest.net result should be the same as non-tethering/non-hotspotting.

FYI, ....... https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/maxi...l-expiry-impact - Maxis sees marginal U Mobile RAN deal expiry impact - May 16, 2019
''''''' KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis Bhd expects the conclusion of its 3G radio access network (RAN) agreement with U Mobile Sdn Bhd next month to marginally affect its bottom line as the negative impact will be slightly offset by growth of its post-paid, prepaid and fibre technology segments.

Maxis chief executive officer Gokhan Ogut said that the agreement, set to expire in June, would result in a single-digit drop in its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2019 (FY19). '''''''

I'm lazy to argue, just reboot and close multi tasks and hotspot for speedtests instead blaming others.
Faileds to do Speedtest properly ๐Ÿ˜…

3G got many standards,
3G is 384kbps
UMTS or HSPA 7.2Mbps
H+ is HSPA+ 21.6Mbps
Maybe some areas still got DC-HSPA+ 43.2Mbps
All upload speeds was 5.76Mbps

Like I said if you feel you have a problem with umobile just port out.  This Is a forum discussion place not fan room. I cant port out because like I said I don't pay the bill. If you can sponsor my bill on another telco would be great.
*
Haha, now create a new telco in penetrated 140% market shares in not wise...

Anyway, if any just let's me know, interested to get it if cheap ๐Ÿ˜‚

then what is the benefit of using umobile if it cannot use it for travelling? playing games? or video streaming?

such a basic thing telco also cannot provide then it got what use?
*
I think U get cheaper wholesale price for poor routes IP address, that's why latency/ping is higher compared big 3.
While streaming is not problem depend your connection speeds managed to get and video quality you watching.

Since U capped video streaming at 1.5Mbps then it's OK for UP TO 720P then, at least I've tested myself.

Hmm, same with my aunt GX speedtests, could be Umobile screwed their test server with in proper configuration.

Just feedback to Umobile so that their tech department to checking.

300gb sound logics for postpaid users ๐Ÿ˜‚ but prepaid just 50gb according Umobile/Hotlink

One more things, the coverage map is not the actual representation of the coverage but rather mathematical permutation.

Actually LTE spectrums B1, B3, B7 can cover up to 90-110 Square meters each tower but reality it's good up to 5km range.

Good information.

To add, the 5km/3 miles maximum range of a 4G/3G cell tower is for Internet data. For voice calls and SMS, it is up to 10 miles/16km.

I think the 4 bars or 5 bars icon on our smartphones actually shows the cellular signal strength for voice calls, ie not for Internet data.
.
*
GSM/UMTS towers can cover up to 48km for voices/sms, many Telcos didn't offers VoLTE yet.

I'm early users of U since their launched, but jumpship almost 3-4 times ๐Ÿ˜‚

Got pros and cons of each Telcos, just choose your telco wisely if found good deals.

Since Perlis upgraded 4G last 2 years and recently doubled speeds, there is no harm to join back U after my unifi contract.

Telcos always overselling without upgrade their network infra, until users found better deals to jumpship...
