Hi everyone,

As per topic title, how would you know if you had a miscarriage or what are the signs before seeing the gynae to check condition?

Thanks everyone!

Also, do you all know of any "mother to be" WhatsApp support group?

I would like to be added into the group. Else, I'll create one.

Cramp (like period cramp) accompanied by bleeding. Or bleeding (bright red color, like fresh blood) a lot.

Don't panic first. Last time I had bleeding and cry all night then next day went to gynae. As what the gynae nurse warned me, should go to emergency and let them check ASAP. But fortunately (touch wood) it was a false alarm, just some old blood.

According to my friends 16 or 17 weeks onward, but my doctor did not specifically try to scan his gender because. 1. During my last scan, baby is very active. He kept disappearing from the screen. But it's great to see him kicking and well. 2. I have already know the gender through blood test and she assured me, the gender result is very accurate.

Through blood test? I did my blood test at pathlab. No indication from the staffs.

May I know how many months is wife's pregnancy? Thanks

Did you come with full bladder? I did not. Doc says come with full bladder next visit so that can see baby clearer

Not pathlab blood test, it's non-invasive blood screening (done from week 11-14) for Down Syndrome and other chromosome anomaly. Expensive and can be done only at private hospitals or gynae clinics that collaborate with dna labs. This is out of pathlab and BP lab league. Google ; NICC, Maternit21 and Panaroma. We have threads about them here. The test result will also show gender because they can extract baby's dna from mother's blood.

few suggestions for you:

1) Prepare a list of questions you want to ask the doctor.
put in ur phone. when u remember something, straightaway put it on the list.

2) Gender? it depends, but some as early as 14 to 16 weeks. but usually after week 17 onwards should be able to see, if in correct possition.
My wife and me, we wanted it to be a surprise. but many times at the scan i can see the thing in between the baby's legs.... so more or less already know, but kept quiet.
one day the doctor blurted out that its a boy. i think for a moment he forgotten that we did not want to know the gender. After that he kept quiet and didnt want to comment on the gender anymore, i guess he realised it immediately after saying it.

3) During pregnancy, what wife feel can greatly affect them as well. so keep wife happy if you want the baby happy.

4) Talk to the baby, treat it as another person. they understand. i have many situations that the baby reacted to me and wife. too many incidents to call it a coincidence.
some examples:
a) i went outstation for work. after coming he doesnt react to my hello and my talks for a few days. usually he will move when we talk. Merajuk. This is evident up to today, my son always want to follow me, and if i leave him, after coming back merajuk, and warmed up and dont wanna leave me.
b) Because my wife plan to give birth in her hometown, i brought her to some private hospitals at her area. I told the baby bump that we are gonna see Dr XXX and she might be the one to deliver u to this world. After his kicking of excitement, we scanned. you know what? he gives a thumbs up. (this might really be a coincidence though, who knows)
c) another time, my mother in law wants to join and see the baby scan. quite late in the pregnancy, usually harder to see the gender as baby has gotten bigger and less space to move around. while scanning she said, want to she the kuku bird only can confirm its a boy, doc replied now hard to see as he is big and not in good position.
Bamm, straightaway the baby open up his legs for everyone to see and confirm its a boy. hahahah.
d) and many other incidences, reacting to what you say, music, etc. its fun.

Hey, my doc says my baby is 80% healthy. But if we're kia su like Singaporeans, take the test to get 99% accuracy that baby is normal.

Is this the same blood test you're doing? Gynae told me the blood test to test whether baby is normal.

Btw, does the test covers baby's sight and hearings? How about body deform (example: toes, fingers , Cleft lip and cleft palate?)

How much does it cost you for that blood test? Mind sharing where you did it?

Appreciate your reply on every questions of mine because I did asked quite a few questions here which I find u can advise me thanks so much

Welcome inputs from other ppl who've gone through too, thkss so much

Yup i think it s the same test, just got different brand name. Weird.. your dr said the same thing about kiasu as my dr said. I did it because i am over 35yo and first child. Also i was hoping if blood test shows low risk i can skip amnio which is invasive, can hurt tha baby and also painful to do. Fortunately the blood test did showed low risk so i didnt do amnio.
The blood test is for down syndrome, edward syndrome etc etc. Usually chromosome related issue. But does not detect things like cleft lip, organ condition etc etc. This will be using detailed scan around week 18. Cannot be too late or bb will grow too big and squeezed condition, cannot see that clearly. Rm400. I didnt take it, cos both of us decide to handle any issue when bb arrives.
Back to the blood test i am charged 2400 but this price include simple urine test i was scheduled to do. Mine is local dna lab. My fren did at park city 2500 panaroma sent to uk lab. I remember i called fgmc before and the price is cheaper. Then i decided to go back to my dr at columbia asia since already follow up there since week 5, dont wanna run here run there. You can try to call fgmc. i think theirs is materni21

You are 35 yo and you did the test? I thought you are the husband? Why are u doing the test instead?

The blood test alone doctor said RM1,600.

But now after reading what you wrote, it seems there are so many other test to do (aside from the down syndrome blood test).

RM400 refers to which test?

You are visiting the hospital? Heard of the pink book? What's the deal about that book anyway. Any idea if it is compulsory to have it?

Dear all readers, kindly advise what is this pink book about. I read it that it is from govt hospital and every newborn needs it. It is true? Because my doctor never mention it at all

pink book is mother book(pregnant women). basically it is for compilation of all the medical record and medical test done in gov clinic.

it is good to have if you plan to deliver in gov hospital as usually gov doctors write detail and important stuff inside, easy to be read by doctors thus saving time during follow up and delivery and emergency.

there's baby book also.......but that is for after delivery........basically blue or red color depending on baby gender, and a record of all medical check up, test, immunization, hospitalization(if any), baby growth chart etc etc....

it is not that doctors in gov hospital don't trust private doctors..........just that sometimes there's too little documentation.....
but there are bad doctors out there.........on the ultrasound documentation only record baby head size and nothing else...... sweat.gif

in lowyat's pregnancy section, u can see many threads about the pink book.

my advice is go get it if possible.

we go to both KKIA and private.

no issue.

people say long queue? go early, and finish early.
opens at 8, but u can come earlier and take number.
usually by 9 plus we are done at KKIA.

Why everyone thought I am the husband? hmm.gif
Basically I know only this main blood test. The rest of the minor blood tests (glucose, HB1ac etc), no need to special request, your doctor will give you along the appointments. They are not expensive, so just take lah. I am starting to have urine tests on every appt now, to monitor if any gestational diabetes and any protein in my urine.

Then if you want a peace of mind is the Detailed Scan I mentioned earlier. Detailed Scan will scan for anomaly on bb's organ and spine growth. I did not take this.
