1. Budget : Around or Below 7k
2. Usage : Photo editing, Video Editing, Gaming and some occasionally 3d work like blender
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : I don't care about the battery life or what size is the display but it needs to be fairly light weight, not too heavy not too light as I will be carrying it around a lot, great cooling and a muted look. Having thunderbolt would be nice because im thinking of using thunderbolt for external displays and i can just unplug one cable if i want to go out.

I was thinking of getting the Zephyrus M GTX1060 but I'd like to hear other recommendations, maybe there are better laptop out there will maybe better cooling and or price to performance.

thanks biggrin.gif

Preferred max weight in kg? Lighter usually means worse cooling

I was eyeing on Y530, liking the design doesn't look like other gaming laptop with fancy lighting etc. But a bit concern with its IPS screen quality as some review mention the screen a bit dull compare with others. I do sometime use laptop for photo editing so I do take color accuracy in consideration.

I hope lenovo MY will bring in y730 with 1060, maybe in dream tongue.gif Currently using lenovo y50-70 which is very good laptop back in 4 years ago with excellent reliability traveled with me many countries even until now still 100% functioning good. Only thing with it is screen really bad so I swapped with another IPS panel screen.

What's your overall thought on the Zephyrus M (1070 variant)? I'm eyeing to buy that laptop for quite awhile but hearing some bad things about it here and there.

Select 300 nits 72% NTSC option. Optional 144Hz. Better colours

I feel ridiculous when seeing the prices of Y730 15 in US are about the same with Y530 in Malaysia (similar specs)

Pros: Good build quality, good keyboard, excellent display, good cooling (for its size), great audio

Cons: Bad battery life (has Optimus switch), a bit heavy (for a thin gaming laptop), uses thermal paste on VRMs (common in Asus gaming laptops), bad 'chewing gum' stock paste, typical Asus QC

I think the price is with 1050Ti, I really wish they could come out with y730 + 1060 that cost between 5.5k to 6k. biggrin.gif

Y530 - i5+1050/1050TI model is expensive if customize
G7 - low sRGB IPS (no upgrade option), a bit heavy
Omen 15 dc - a bit expensive (especially 8750H+1050 model), low sRGB IPS (except 1060 6GB model)
Helios 300 - bad cooling, OKish build quality, low sRGB IPS (i5 model), a bit heavy

Personally I don't just look at value, there are many things to consider when purchasing laptop

Hi All,

Dumb question - I am considering a Dell XPS laptop. Is there anywhere to take a look at one before buying? In other words, is there a retail Dell shop with an XPS in Penang?

Comparing the MacBook Pro and dell xps which is a better buy? Thanks.
