I've also just come across the vivobook S.
SU530UN, a cheaper price. Any comments about it?
I have just realized zenbook's limited space. The next best seems to be vivobook.

Not enough reviews so can't tell. Seems decent but priced a bit high compared to other similar models

Hi, I'm looking for an ultraportable, preferably with the i5 8250U,8GB RAM and an IPS screen for under RM3000.
I've been out of the loop about the laptops available in our market. The laptop will be used for work and study purposes with no gaming in mind.
The i5 8250U is not a concrete requirement, the i5 7200U or a Ryzen CPU will also do the job.

Thanks.

Max weight would be 2kg, display 14 or 13 inches, battery life doesn't matter much as the user will always carry the charger

You want more CPU or GPU power? Also, what models are they? Don't just compare specs

Is there any major improvement btwn 1000 and 2000 series?

Maybe yes but most probably with increased prices. If you want a laptop now, just get one. If you can wait, wait

Budget:
6-9k

I'm looking for suggestions on an Ultrabook as I travel a lot for presentations and often need to reply emails, come out with proposals for clients on the go.

Currently looking between the XPS 13 (2018) & Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2018). As both have similar specs, I'm having trouble to choose between them and hope that someone here who has used either one or both of them before could share some their experiences with me.

At present, I'm drawn towards the XPS 13 due to its aesthetics, but the X1 seems to suit my usage purposes more, though I've read elsewhere it's very easy to chip away the x1's matt finish + it's somewhat a QC lottery when receiving X1s as some of their keyboards may not perform as well.

Other ultrabooks suggestions are welcomed as well.

Usage: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, CRM Programs, Occasional AutoCad Programs, Web Browsing, Watching movies during down time.

Requirement:
- Light & Portable
- Durable & somewhat future proof with ports
- Processor: i7/i5, please advise which would be better as i believe for my usage there wont be much noticeable performance difference between these 2 processors.
- RAM - 8/16GB
- Storage - 520 GB SSD
- Battery life: 8-10 hours on a charge if possible (Fast Charging would be great)
- Display: 13-14" (FHD is good enough)
- Weight: < 2kg (Lighter is better)
- Brand: Brands with great after sales support & warranty
- Good keyboard
- Good Bluetooth connectivity is a must
- LTE Connection would be a great addition.
- Touch Screen/2 in 1s are not a priority but can be considered.

If you really want great after sales support, either go for Dell or business laptops. In ULV CPU, i5 and i7 don't have much performance difference due to cooling and firmware limitation. Keyboard feel is subjective so you need to try out by yourself.

Can consider these:
1. Thinkpad T480s with WQHD panel (better colour quality)
2. Thinkpad T480 and A485 (no display upgrade option, need 24+72Wh battery) if you don't mind extra weight
3. Thinkpad X1 Yoga, X1 Carbon, X380 Yoga, L380 Yoga
4. Dell Latitude 5000/7000 with IPS (need to ask resellers for model info)

XPS 13 has very bright display but has soldered RAM and the keyboard is nothing special IMO

Hi Sifus,
Need a new laptop and wanna get 1 during the 11.11 sales.
Budget: around 4-5K
Usage: Ms Word n PowerPoint. Watching videos. Surfing in chrome with multiple tabs.Light photo n video editing.
Requirements: prefer 2 in 1 type so I can ditch my iPad. But open to regular laptop as well. Most important is good battery life so I don't have to carry charger when I leave the house. Screen around 13 inch. Would be good to have pen support too. Screen resolution at least 1080p. Thin n light.

The ones I have considered so far are
HP spectre x360 13 ( like it a lot but reports of overheating n fan noise have me concerned)
5th gen surface pro ( bad experience with SP3, screen died 1 month after warranty ended.)
Dell XPS 13
Huawei matebook x pro.

Your opinions n feedback are appreciated. Thanks.

Preferred max weight in kg and min battery life in hours? Good display means high sRGB? Or low sRGB also can?

The one with thermal issue is the Spectre x360 15. However, this is due to metal chassis and overload of cooling (they put 25W MX150, KBL-G and now 1050TI MQ while the cooling design cannot handle them properly)

XPS 13 (a bit expensive), Spectre x360 13 and Matebook X Pro (iGPU) are good. Can also consider Lenovo Yoga 730 13, Lenovo Ideapad 720s 13 (Intel), HP Envy 13, Asus UX331UA/UN. Mind you, most 13 inch Ultrabooks have soldered RAM so choose properly

Thanks for the quick reply. Will do more research on the spectre x360.
