yes, 8 plus design is already looking old now. not to mention 3 to 4 years later.

but iphone xr design will continue to look new for the next 3 to 4 years.

You are in the same position as me awhile back.

Just that I planned to upgrade to an Xs instead of the Xr like you. But after spending a day with the Xs and the X I couldn't feel the difference at all in real life usage. iOS 12 has made the X lightning quick and buttery smooth. You can tell that the Xs is faster though when put side by side, the difference is more apparent when running heavy apps, but average everyday social media apps like FB, whatsapp etc next to NO DIFFERENCE in load speeds. Face ID unlocks prolly a split second faster? lol So I decided to pull the trigger on a brand new X instead then will dump the money I save on an Apple Watch Series 4 when it launches in Malaysia later. 

The Xr will most likely be as fast as the Xs so you sort of get the idea of how fast it will be compared to the X.

I have used the X for around two weeks now and:-
- Ditch your 8+ lol This is the future and the way to go. I felt like I just upgraded from an ancient dinosaur phone.
- Once you go OLED you never go back. This IMO is the biggest dealbreaker on the Xr. The screen on the Xr will be similar with the 8+. You will soon realize how washed out the LED screens are. no matter how good, after going OLED. I still have an iPhone 7 for work purposes and the screen, well lets just say I don't remember it looking this bad before. But its given by the company so I do not have any choice but to use it. 
- I don't miss touch ID one bit or the home button. I feel Face ID is better and the gestures to navigate around apps, easier.
- The only thing I miss from the 8+...the excellent battery life, in which you will also get from the Xr....this is the only drawback from the X.

That’s why it is not worth it to get 8 plus or below phone now as the design is already old now. At least XR design is still new.

XR size is in between 8 plus and 8, actually it cannot be too big plus it is bezeless design.
in fact, i think to older ppl, bigger screen is certainly a plus.

forget about 64GB if you are buying XR. newer iphone has much much better capabilities in terms of photo/video taking. buying a 64GB iphone XR will be the same as buying 32GB iphone 5s.

yes, but from what experience with iphone x 256gb, i would advise not to use the HEIF or HEVC as the format while taking photos/videos still.

currently, only the latest macOS support the formats natively. Windows 10 does not even support it natively without the use of third party converter.

it will be painful while you try to download the videos/photos out from the iphone to your OS directly via lighting cable.
particularly for large 4k video files, i took them during my recent europe trip, there is a problem copying them out. The system keeps on giving problem during the transfer.

the adoption of HEIF or HEVC formats is still very slow.
it is possible to survive with 64gb if really want to, but not easy seriously.
the hassle of doing the 'maintenance' of storage will irritate one over time easily.

and to be frank 64gb will also limit the capability of the iphone.

if one is using it for 4k video recording during overseas trip. it is a big no.

30 seconds of 4K at 30FPS will take approximately 175MB (85MB using HEVC in iOS 11)
60 seconds takes up 350MB (170MB)
5 minutes takes up 1.75GB (850MB)
10 minutes takes up 3.5GB (1.7GB)
30 minutes takes up 10.5GB (5.1GB)

most importantly, the price difference between 64gb and 128gb iphone XR is not significant. it is still advisable to get a 128gb iphone XR at least for future proof. after all, the extra money paid for the storage difference is just a small fraction of the phone that one paid for the iphone.

Will the A12 be a huge difference with A11? Can the A12 be used longer than A11? Just one year difference, but will the A11 be obsolete few years before A12?

Iphone X 256gb is going for almost the same price as Iphone XR 128GB.

I spent so many hours to choose either XR,X and XS. I am so indecisive. Maybe cause it's my first time buying an expensive phone haha.

Yeah I am not that crazy about specs. I just want it to last long cause I don't like changing phones. My previous android phone lasted for 4 years and I hope apple product can last longer than that.
Yeah I have to try and watch comparison videos before making my decision. But I worry that if I do not preorder, apple resellers will sell the phone a month later and I cant get the product red which I really want!
I see. I am all good with the Xr specs but the OLED is really tempting, considering the phone is expensive it should have an OLED display. And im not really sure about the lack of 2nd camera and the aluminium build, not sure if it would really affect the zooming and the phone is not really durable compared to stainless steel phones

Ya the stainless steel sides get scratched easily, my iPhone X stainless steel sides full of scratches
