Prost: Feud could hurt McLaren
Monday 18th June 2007

QUOTE
Alain Prost has warned McLaren that the on-going battle between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton could "hurt" the team.

The two team-mates are not only locked in a fight for number one status at McLaren but also for the World title, which is currently being won by Hamilton.

Already it has spilled over into the press with Alonso recently claiming that he feels "uncomfortable" at McLaren, while Hamilton made it know that he was unhappy having to stay behind the Spaniard in the Monaco GP.

And should it escalate any further, Prost, who had his own feud at McLaren with team-mate Ayrton Senna back in 1988 and 1989, believes it could hurt the Woking team in the long run.

"I think now having two equal cars within the same team is a mistake," he told El Pais newspaper.

"In the end it will hurt them because it generates too much tension."

McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh, however, isn't worried about the growing tension or the reports of it.

"Do I expect more speculation about our guys and their relationship? Yes," he told Reuters.

"The reality is both our guys are winners, they want to win.

"If Fernando got out of the car and said he was delighted Lewis beat him, I would be very worried.

"It can be a distraction but at the moment it isn't. But when you have two competitive drivers they're always going to have a go at each other."

Hopefully, both McLaren drivers will not bump each other in a race.. I will like to see them fight side by side..

I wonder why Kimi who was on soft compounds wasn't able to overtake Massa who was on hard compounds.. Kimi did a few fast laps on the soft compounds but his progress came to a halt while stuck behind Massa..

Kimi got tucked up behind Rosberg and another driver (don't recall).

Villeneuve ready to suffer at Le Mans
Eurosport - Tue, 12 Jun 16:55:00 2007

QUOTE
EXCLUSIVE! Ex-F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has told Eurosport that the Le Mans 24 Hours is a very different challenge from racing in Formula 1, but believes he will be up to the task of competing in the classic race for Peugeot.
MOTORSPORTS 2007 Le Mans Peugeot Bourdais - 0

The former Williams star must get used to sharing his car with two team-mates, and will have none of the creature comforts he enjoyed in F1 such as a customised steering wheel.

"For sure my F1 steering wheel was great, but Le Mans has enough straights for me to rest my hands. I'm not worried about a little bit of pain or a blister!" he said.

Villeneuve must also get used to much longer driving stints and the novelty of dodging much slower drivers. The 36-year-old is nevertheless confident he will adapt.

"You have to pay attention to cars such as the GT2s, which are a lot slower than us, as it's difficult to assess how long it will take to catch them.

"You also have to watch out gentlemen drivers, some of whom take some bizarre lines and I don't want to talk about those who brake halfway down a straight!

"Nevertheless it's up to professional and experienced drivers like us to be careful, and to them not to do that."

The Canadian legend will take part along with Marc Gen and Nicolas Minassian this weekend, and despite his limited role in testing he insists he is confident with the Peugeot 908.

"We share the duties in terms of set-up but Nicolas and Marc know the 908 better as they have raced it twice, so they have already done most of the job," he said.

"At the end of the test day the car was well-balanced and suited to our driving styles, including driving style even if I personally feel the pedals are a bit far away. But a compromise was necessary and everybody is reasonably happy.

"My goal is not about chasing the last tenth of a second, it's just about finding a good rhythm. I've always been a smooth driver so I'm not worried about being too hard on the engine. My main concern is about fatigue, which is a new factor for me.

"Believe me - there is too much traffic around to think about anything except driving. But if there is any risk that I might fall asleep I will put some coffee in my water bottle!"

FIA may change aero rules
Wednesday 20th June 2007

QUOTE
The FIA is considering a radical plan to allow flexi wings in Formula One should teams reject its plans to push for a standard chassis.

The FIA is adamant that it wants more road-relevant, energy efficient engines, with talks currently being held to frame regulations from 2011 onwards.

The FIA is also keen on a wholesale overhaul of car regulations, with a standard chassis central to their vision of reducing costs and improving competition.

Meetings are set to take place after the British Grand Prix where the FIA hopes to discuss their plan and, should the teams be unhappy, come up with some alternate proposals.

"We believe that a standard chassis is the best solution," wrote Mosley in a letter to team bosses. "The competition would then be between drivers armed with rival, fuel-efficient drive trains but otherwise in equal cars. Painted differently and with different sponsors, the cars would look as different as they do today to anyone but an expert.

"But if the teams want to continue to make individual chassis, we need some proposals which really do meet the four agreed objectives of road-relevance, safety, cost reduction and improving the show. We also need to ensure the survival of the independent teams."

He admits that teams are highly unlikely to accept the proposal but insists that only a radical solution will benefit the sport, thus his proposal to allow flexi-wings, something that has been banned in F1 for many years.

"One example of radical change would be to permit moveable aerodynamic devices," added Mosley. "Arguably, the safety problems of 40 years ago no longer exist.

"Modern Formula One technology is sufficiently mature to eliminate the risks of both passive and active aero devices. Moreover, the FIA is already confronted with ever-more sophisticated moving bodywork. Engineers appreciate that when subjected to a force, everything moves - it is just a question of how much.

"Immense time and effort is currently going into making bodywork which moves enough to enhance performance, however slightly, but not enough to excite the interest of the regulator or rival teams. This is not satisfactory; it is wasteful, expensive, ultimately pointless and contrary to sporting fairness.

"With moveable aero devices, both active and passive, designers would have an incentive to build a car which the driver could adjust to optimise performance when following another car. This would facilitate wheel-to-wheel racing.

"There are also a number of areas where active aero could be road-relevant, for example cooling systems. But part of any discussion on moveable devices would have to be how to contain the resulting increase in performance.

"In the hope of starting a useful debate on a new approach to chassis design with variable aerodynamics, we are preparing a discussion paper similar to the one on engines.

"Among other things this will look at the implications of moveable devices and any changes to engine output, which might become necessary in order to contain speeds. This paper will be circulated as soon as it is ready.

"We think it might perhaps be useful to follow it up with a discussion in the second week of July (after the British Grand Prix), at which each team would be given an opportunity to present its ideas (ideally in writing beforehand) and answer questions on future Formula One regulations, either alone or jointly with other teams."

Montoya: McLaren playing favourites
Wednesday 20th June 2007

QUOTE

Former McLaren driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes that, despite their protestations to the contrary, McLaren have made Lewis Hamilton their number one driver.

Montoya believes that, although Hamilton is a good driver, his teammate Fernando Alonso is not receiving equal treatment from the team.

Montoya told AP: "I think the kid is doing a good job, they have the fastest car and he's clearly the No. 1 on the team. But there's always a No. 1 at McLaren. I mean, Fernando Alonso said it himself. Didn't he? That's what the media was saying.

"I don't really follow it too much, but Ron (Dennis) paid his whole career. He got to Formula One because Ron paid for his whole career. Aside from the kid having talent, Ron paid for him. Ron has told him where to go, arranged the deals for him, and paid for it over his whole career. He's been under Ron Dennis since the kid was 8 years old or something.

"The long-term of McLaren is Hamilton. That's the thing, they are both doing a really good job, and the car is really fast. So even if you do a bad job in a good car, you are still going to finish second or third. And (in Canada), everybody messed up but him, and he won the race. And he's been getting quicker and quicker. And I heard Fernando is not very comfortable in the car, either."

Montoya doesn't doubt Hamilton's ability however, stating: "Oh, he's really good. I am not going to say the guy is not good. The guy is really good. But he has an advantage that ... they are always going to say that it's equal stuff. But there really always is a favourite driver on the team."

Me too.
Not a fan of Schumi but I admit he is good.

We can consider Ayrton Senna is the best
Nice battle between Schumi and Senna in the 1994 San Marino GP.

I watched it.
Schumi keeping up with Senna from the beginning.
That Benetton-Renault were fast.

Senna crash in lap 6, race stopped...then the race restarted.
Schumi vs Gerhard Berger (Ferrari).
Finally, Schumi overtook him.
Tense battle.

Senna's my numero uno driver ever.

`Schumi won`t return to F1`
Thursday 21st June 2007

QUOTE

Michael Schumacher's manager and spokeswoman have both strenuously denied rumours that the seven-time World Champion could be set to make a return to a Ferrari cockpit in the future.

Schumacher is preparing for the 'Race of Champions' at Wembley Stadium in December and is certainly not planning to return to the somewhat beleaguered Ferrari team, according to Willi Weber and Sabine Kehm.

"That is absolute rubbish," manager Weber told Sport Bild, also rubbishing reports that Schumacher had already tested the F2007 racer.

Weber added: "I know Ferrari, and with the resources they have, already in the next race everything could be completely different. McLaren should not celebrate just yet."

Schumacher's spokeswoman Kehm added her two cents worth: "There's absolutely nothing in it. Michael has absolutely no intention of returning to the cockpit," she told Deutsche-Presse-Agentur.

"Michael has definitely not driven this car. He is completely contented with his life at present. He has never regretted his decision to retire and nothing has changed in that."

More doubt surrounds Indian Grand Prix
Thursday 21st June 2007
QUOTE
India's two motor sport bodies have cast doubts on whether the Asian country will host a Grand Prix in 2009.

The Indian Olympic Association announced a preliminary deal with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone for a race in Delhi last week, despite a lack of funding and no existing circuit able tos stage a race.

But the Motorsports Association of India (MAI) and the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI) are both highly sceptical as to the viability of an Indian Grand Prix.

"The announcement was a bit premature," NDTV quotes MAI president Nazir Hoosein as saying.

FMSCI's president Rajat Mazumbar adds: "The only authorised body that can run motorsports in the country is ours."

Kubica undaunted by horror crash
Thursday 21st June 2007

QUOTE
Robert Kubica is adamant one of the worst accidents in Formula One history will have no affect on his future career.

Kubica's smash at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal was measured at 75g, which under normal circumstances would prove fatal, yet the Pole sustained nothing more than light concussion.

That is testament to the strength of the monocoque of a modern-day Formula One car, which is all that remained of his BMW after it finally came to rest.

"I always knew with a single seater and open wheels an accident could happen - and it can always happen again," said Kubica.

"It is the same for every driver, and we are all aware of it, but I feel what happened is more encouraging than worrying thanks to the outcome - that you still can climb out without being hurt.

"The improved safety regulations from the FIA plus the 'safety first' approach of our engineers and designers have made this possible. I would like to say a big personal thank you to all of them.

"If I had been born earlier I would have still wanted to race in Formula One, but most likely would have suffered injuries.

"I feel I am lucky to be racing in modern Formula One, and what happened will not affect me. Definitely not."

Although emerging unscathed, Kubica was denied the chance to race in Sunday's United States Grand Prix on medical grounds.

There were fears that in light of his concussion, another accident could have had serious consequences.

Kubica will be checked again ahead of the French Grand Prix, although he concedes he is "pretty bored with doing nothing."

"I am not used to resting for such a long period - no test, no pr days," added Kubica.

"But of course, I have used the time for my fitness preparation in Italy, and am in constant contact with Josef Leberer, our team's physio.

"I now can't wait to race. But whether I am allowed to or not is down to the decision of the official doctors, who I have to see before the race in Magny-Cours."
