Dude, if you use a car that won a grand prix last season, they should have done A LOT better. IMO, davidson is a let down this season. I was hoping for him to consistently score top 8 finishes, looking at the car and his potential 2 years ago

FIA deny being influenced by media outrage
QUOTE
The FIA have denied that they were pressurised into launching their much-derided investigation into McLaren's 'team strategy' at the Monaco GP by the hysterical post-race reaction of the British media.

As expected, the governing body have cleared McLaren of any wrongdoing during Sunday's procession, declaring in a statement that the team's request to Lewis Hamilton to 'cool it' was "entirely legitimate".

According to some bemused personnel in the paddock, the probe was launched purely as a consequence of the vehement criticism of McLaren by the British press. The Daily Mirror, for instance, claimed that, by denying Hamilton the opportunity to challenge team-mate Fernando Alonso, F1 had been 'robbed of honour and pride and honesty and fair play'. The Daily Telegraph, considered to be one of the least frenzied voices on Fleet Street, described the 'enforced denial of a car chase around the streets of Monte Carlo as sacrilege.'

The FIA, though, have insisted that their investigation was initiated shortly after the race, and long before the British media voiced its sanctimonious outrage.

"The investigation was initiated and started on Sunday evening and developed through Monday morning," Richard Woods, a spokesman for the FIA, told The Times.

Woods also maintained that not only was the FIA probe legitimiate, but had also enhanced the sport's reputation.

"We would never have initiated our investigation unless there was enough for us to look at in the first place," he argued. "This was the regulator going through the regulatory process as transparently as possible and reaching a conclusion."

While that view will not be held universally - Sir Jackie Stewart, for one, has criticised the FIA's investiagation on the basis that "it's unfortunate for Formula One that so much speculation was created, which, in some cases, produced negative publicity towards the sport" - the episode has highlighted the difficulty McLaren face in handling the intensifying interest in Hamilton's progress.

Team boss Ron Dennis has a prickly relationship with the British press and was embroiled in an angry exchange with Daily Express hack Bob McKenzie on Thursday after being accused of deliberately denying access to Hamilton. One suggestion is that the intensity of the media's attack on McLaren's tactics in Monaco was a direct consequence of the simmering feud between the two parties.

QUOTE
Adrian Sutil has been touted as a possible replacement for the beleaguered Ralf Schumacher at Toyota.

Following a dismal weekend in Monaco, Ralf has reputedly been given just two races to save his F1 career. According to reports in the German press, the team have run out of patience with the 31-year-old and Sutil has been linked with a dramatic transfer from Spyker.

The unheralded Sutil has emerged as one of 2007's unlikely success stories. This weekend at Monaco, the German topped the timesheets after a wet practice session, an achievement which PF1 declared had promoted the rookie 'from being a pay-driver to someone with potential.' Others, too, have apparently noticed his fine form. "After Adrian's recent performances, one or two team managers have enquired about his situation, but up to now there have been no negotiations," agent Karl-Heinz Zimmermann confirmed.

Nonetheless, it remains unlikely that Sutil would replace Schumacher at Toyota midway through his debut season in F1. Indeed his candidature simply highlights the biggest obstacle Toyota could face in ousting Ralf: the acute shortage of feasible replacements currently available.

Bye Bye Schumacher??
